  5. I have a lot to say, so let's start from the end: It looks like your ErgoDox EZ order is getting delayed by a few weeks, and I am of course happy to refund you if you'd like.

  7. Now I'd like to explain exactly what's happening. We recently got an entire shipment of Gateron Browns switches that was simply junk. Had we been a big corporation I would probably have to sugarcoat this, but we're not, so I'm telling it like it is. We're talking 10,000 keyswitches that were just a disaster. Chatter, inconsistent feel -- just terrible product, and not something we'd ever put in a keyboard. What made this even more exciting is that we couldn't just refuse the whole shipment -- they made us sort through them by hand ("this one feels right, this one is bad").   9. We did the work, we had a little heart to heart with Gateron, and we were expecting a new shipment of Brown switches (like the ones you ordered) to come in today (Monday, April 10th).

  11. Then, today, instead of getting the switches, Gateron let us know they actually can't deliver good quality Brown switches at this time. Essentially, we made them aware of their own quality issue, and now they must repair their tooling.

  13. They are telling us that they will now need one week to repair the tooling, and after that they will be able to process our order. I reckon it will take them up to 3 weeks to get the goods to us, but we hope to get the first 10K switches in two weeks.

  15. Once we get those switches, we'll perform a thorough IQC (incoming quality control) check. When we're happy with the quality, we'll fly into making Gateron Brown based boards in the order they were purchased. We are not accepting any new Brown orders until we are happy with the quality of the switches we get from Gateron and fulfill all existing ones.

  17. So I hope this explains things a little better. I will write again once the switches are finally in and we have results from the IQC inspection. If you'd like, I'd be happy to refund your order -- and I am also available for any other questions personally, like always. Please feel free to reply.

  32. Time for another Gateron Brown update. tl;dr: No Gateron Brown switches yet, but you have several options. Now let's get down to the details, with some analysis from my side.

  34. So far, Gateron told us they failed to fix the Gateron Brown tooling twice. They said they attempted once and couldn't do it, then ignored our emails and calls for a few days, then they said they tried again and still couldn't do it. Now they claim they'll do it sometime in May.

  36. Are you convinced? Because I'm not so much. A few things about this sound unlikely to me, and I'll elaborate. But let's look at your options, and our options. At this point you can do one of several things:

  38. 1) The fastest way to get your ErgoDox EZ: Change your to a different switch type, such as Gateron Red. Just let us know and we'll make and ship your new board ASAP.
  39. 2) Choose to continue waiting for Gateron Brown keyswitches.
  40. 3) Choose to wait for Brown keyswitches, but from a different vendor. More on this below.
  41. 4) Cancel your order for a full refund.

  43. By default, if you don't contact us, your order will ship out as soon as those Gateron Browns are in stock, and we will also let you know again once we source any other Brown switch from another vendor, to let you switch if you'd like.

  45. As for those "other vendors": We have samples coming in from Kaihua (Kailh) which are well-regarded in the industry, and we are in early-phase discussions with Cherry, which may or may not bear fruit (we didn't have a great record with them previously, but are now trying another distributor).
