- I was wondering if anyone out there has had experience w/ getting a Hauppauge HVR-850 to work under the latest Ubuntu .....
- I have located a few resources online regarding drivers/firmware that needs to be installed ect....... I have downloaded the latest firmware from a resource (http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-850) but there is (what appears to be a simple instruction (s), but it doesn't work. Anyone out there able to help w/ this issue? I really would like to watch LIVE TV ...using this tuner.
- This is what I did.... And everything worked OK.

- Extracting hcw85bda.sys from the windows zip file
- Archive: HVR-12x0-14x0-17x0_1_25_25271_WHQL.zip
- inflating: Driver85/hcw85bda.sys
- Extracting firmware as dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw from hcw85bda.sys
- Firmware extracted successfully
- Removing Driver85/hcw85bda.sys temporary file
- Removing Driver85 temporary dir
- Now manually copy dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw into your firmware dir
- E.g. sudo cp dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw /lib/firmware/3.0.0-14-generic
- ---
- @mybox1776:~$ sudo cp dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw /lib/firmware/3.0.0-14-generic
- No errors.
- Doing an $lsusb I show the device:
- Bus 002 Device 003: ID 2040:b140 Hauppauge
- Then this...
- @mybox1776:/var/log$ grep -i haup syslog
- Jan 12 19:01:03 mybox1776 kernel: [11104.087057] cx231xx #0: New device Hauppauge Hauppauge Device @ 480 Mbps (2040:b140) with 6 interfaces

- So, I guess I am a little lost and not sure if they driver/firmware "took" if that makes sense?
