What I missed first time round:

Strahd told the Alpha Emile would be his prisoner until he had Tatyana back. At which point, he would send "the messenger" to the wolf den and give his blessing for the wolves to kill "the rest of you". I.e. The messenger is almost certainly Rahadin and the Wolves would have launched an all out attack on Kvetch with the goal of killing AT LEAST us if not all of the inhabitants of Kvetch.
