  1. The big thing that's setting everyone off I think (including myself) is the fact that it's so, so hard to figure out why this article needed to be written and published as is. I get that you want it to be about the difficulties of translating the complexities of Jerusalem into a game but I don't think it really does that, because it was two drunk twenty-somethings trying to map WoW stuff one-to-one onto Jerusalem, not concept a game from the ground up. Honestly I think there'd be a lot of value in making a game that represents Jerusalem's complexities, and if this article did one thing well, it was talking about the various groups that reside there and how they butt heads against each other. The other thing that's making people upset is how “queers” is used as a race and not even really something you criticized, and how Arabs get assigned to the undead race and you straight up try to say that ghastly decision was actually good. The way the piece skirts around Palestine in general is really uncomfortable. You talk about in your tweets how communication between Israeli and Palestinian people is basically non-existent, but it's wholly uncommented on in the the text of your piece. If you're gonna open your article with “yeah I had some messed up ideas 10 years ago” you should really do more to be critical of those ideas throughout. As it is, it's just a straightforward accounting of a really bad idea.
