  1. The book can be described very simply as a group of boys stranded on an island and left to their own devices. But the theme behind it is of savagery and primal human instincts. At first when a society exists, the boys are civilized and calm and obedient but when it descends into anarchy they turn into beasts. Civilization nowadays conditions us to repress these natural survival instincts and follow laws and respect rights. Society is critical to human advancement and to further our knowledge as without it, these hypothetical scenarios may not become hypothetical any more. In this novel without rules the children quickly realise they are free and can do whatever they want which also demonstrates the need for police and law enforcement.
