The vista was split by a hazy line of impenetrable darkness, only dotted by the faint glimmer of distant stars. Above stood the infinite cosmos of countless brighter stars, constellations and the pale moon, while below stood the human city lit by equally vast amounts of artificial lights reflecting from the ever present snow that covered the region. 

The silence was deafening, for no sounds reached the perch above the stone temple outside the city. There sat a lone red and white figure, leaning back against a tail pouch fashioned into an uncomfortable support. The snow burned its bottom, and the shivers born from stillness were already beginning to creep up its short legs. 

The Delibird had made a habit of starting its deliveries from the top of the ancient temple. A good vantage point meant easier time planning the route it would take, and nothing felt better than the freezing air flowing around its body as it glided down into the cold warmth of the city lights. For years this had been the routine despite the extra distance it had to travel to the temple, and tonight was no different in that regard. 

A crunch of a frozen berry being bit into pierced the silence. That was the first oddity of tonight. The berry was given to it by the human who also handed the package to it. A package so large it took up all the space in the tail pouch it leaned against now. The package was the second oddity. Often the humans gave the Delibird small items to carry, small and light, not too important to risk losing to a wild Pokemon. 

The Delibird didn't know the value of the packages, for it saw them all in equal value. A gift to be delivered, small or large. What confused the Pokemon was the humans apparent insistence that this package was very important indeed. If the repeated words mirrored by the label on the package wasn't enough convince the Delibird, it was the large Sitrus berry the human handed it that it munched on now. Even while frozen it was delicious and a rare treat. 

"Snowpoint city gym" the human had said over and over again, while pointing in the large buildings general direction. It now stood there in the centre of the city, polluting light into the cloudless starry sky. It wasn't the first time the Delibird had delivered something to that particular building, the nice lady there often even gave it treats even when seeing it wandering the city. 

The Delibird liked the lady, as much as it could like any human. She was a strong trainer and took good care of her Pokemon partners. She had even tried to catch the Delibird once, but it had refused to be bound by a human. Fighting was distasteful, and it was afraid to get hurt. Making deliveries was enough to bring fulfilment to it's simple life.
