  1.
  2. You spend some time walking down the streets your arcology that you do not usually frequent. The paths are far less crowded, and you are spotted far more often and hawked at, (respectively) by the various shop owners.
  3. You begin to notice that the farther you go, the more things start to become…strange.
  4.
  5. You’ve managed to wander far from the busy hum and bum of the main streets and find yourself at a lone building in the back of the section, adjacent from any other. It is large, made completely of white bricks and with no windows and only a single wooden door with the word,
  6.
  7. “Display of Immortality” carved into it.
  8. Feeling your curiosity consume you, you carefully open the door and step inside. As dim LED lights flicker on about you, the first thing you notice is the smell. It’s subtle but the smell feels stained into every wall, crack and comer of the building; it reeks of chemicals but you can’t put your finger on what.
  9.
  10. As for the building itself, it appears to be just one big room, the only feature a row of blue seats. Most of the room was still dark, only the LED lights directly above having come on.
  11.
  12. You look for a switch but find none and take a few tentative steps forward. As you do another set of lights illuminate above you, letting you see another row of blue seats in front of the first. There are two spaced columns between the rows of chairs, allowing a path to walk albeit into complete darkness. You venture farther still, slowly keeping an eye on your surroundings.
  13.
  14. You go farther and farther in, always another light overhead showing another row of blue chairs. Once you turn your head behind you and you realize the lights from when you came in have turned off leaving you surrounded in darkness. As you go on you realize the floor is steadily slopping downward.
  15.
  16. Finally, after passing nearly a dozen rows of blue chairs, you begin to see a large structure out by the edge of the darkness. A few more steps forward and bright spotlights flash on above you, shining the entire structure in front of you in clear light.
  17. You manage to contain most of your startle as the structure becomes clear, it’s a stage one that would be used in a play, and on it are several humanoid figures…they remain motionless.
  18.
  19. There’s a man and a woman, dressed in period cloths from the American 1950s. The couple’s eyes were closed and they were locked in an eternal kiss.
  20.
  21. There was a young teenage girl with brown hair, face happy as she sits at a big table, alone. The table is fully stocked however, with silverware food and plates, and most prominently in front of the girl is a white cake with 16 candles atop it. The young girls face is pursed and lips forming a small O as she seems to be stuck blowing them out.
  22.
  23. There is an older woman with the first hints of grey hair. She didn’t seem to have interesting features at all, dressed plainly and face passive as she seemed locked in a motion of walking.
  24.
  25. There was a man stripped completely naked, and an eternal look of terror on his face.
  26.
  27. You continue to look over them, as it becomes clear that while they are not simply mannequin or dummies they show no appearance of
  28. life. As an Arcology owner, you’ve heard of the practice of Taxidermy, preserving the body of a favored slave and stuffing it to keep on display, however these seem different. Even kept perfectly still they have a…subtle quality of life that a stuffed skin wouldn’t have. Against better reason you climb onto the stage to get a better look.
  29.
  30. You look at the one’s further down to the side that you hadn’t examined yet.
  31. There was a hugely bound muscular woman with dark skin, flexing a pose. Her face was strained as if struggling to flex some invisible bounds but all she was wearing were light caveman like loincloths.
  32.
  33. There were three little girls, all nude and holding hands. They were smiling and the girls on the end were waving at the empty audience.
  34.
  35. At the very end was a woman reclined on a bed, in a maternity dress. She was smiling happily to a figure that wasn’t there. Her hands however were wrapped around her stomach distended in late pregnancy.
  36.
  37. You step closer going back to the small trio of girls, looking them up and down. The two at the ends couldn’t have been older than 10 and twelve respectively, while the girl in the center holding each girl’s hands gave the appearance having not seen her fourth year yet.
  38.
  39. You looked closer at the center girl, her hair was an angelic blond and her eyes were a bright green, but something was wrong with them. You poked a tentative finger forward and touched one of her wide eyes, it was glass. You touched her check next to see if it too could be felt as a clear fake, but it had the same constancy of skin, albeit freezing cold. You felt something thin and solid and realize metal rods have been placed in the mouth to keep it smiling. Unable to help yourself, you put a finger under her nose to rid yourself of foolish delusions.
  40.
  41. “Firm arms. A strong back”
  42.
  43. You jump backward away from the voice behind you and standing there just beside were you were a moment ago, was a very old hunched over man dressed in white.
  44.
  45. He smiled, but having lost most of his teeth already, “Yes you’d do nicely.”
  46. Before you can manage a question or assert yourself he begins talking again.
  47.
  48. “Herr doctor, Earil.” He nodded to himself. “Admiring my art? I can’t blame you I very much wanted to keep them private, but I couldn’t force myself to be so selfish to the world when it has been so kind to me in the past.”
  49. He gestured to the various figures, “But where are my manners, tell me would you care for a cup of tea?” He gave another toothless
  50. smile.
  51.
  52. You leave the building quickly without plans of ever returning there.
