jinyoung grew up with dreams of being a trot singer like her namesake, but quickly abandoned them after discovering that she could do what she loved while helping others in the process. one of the teachers at the studio where she taught starter piano saw promise in her singing ability (she took vocal lessons at the studio herself) and asked her to student teach alongside his students. jinyoung learned fast and quickly became a fan favourite among the kids and adults that she worked with. she won a couple singing contests after that which gained her popularity and started posting small covers on social media because of her newfound fame. she was asked to join the crew for produce 101 and instantly accepted.

jinyoung graduated with a degree in video design and instantly got a job as an intern editor on variety shows with a stable job and good working conditions, but they fired her after an episode where they brought some staff members over to dance with the celebrity guests, nu'est. the footage was criticized by fans due to her seemingly provocative nature  while dancing (she was mistaken for another editor but ended up being forced to take the blame.) she then applied for the position of editor for produce 101's first season, and has been with the show since. since she is the youngest editor on the team she gets lots of the work that the others don't want to do, but she loves what she does. she moved up the ranks to one of the higher-up editors after season 1, so her bias is more clearly shown in the editing. she's not a sob story whatsoever - she gets paid well and she's in a good position, but she still holds a grudge against the nu'est members for bringing her down.

ㅡFAMILY AND FRIENDS :
•kang nayoung, younger sister, age 16. dreams of being a pediatric nurse, self-proclaimed "professional choi minki stan" to her sister's protests, keeps begging jinyoung to show her around the set, loves roses and instant ramen. lives with jinyoung. she is first chair violin at her high school and secretly eats all the pastries sent in jinyoung's care packages. won a lookalike contest as chaeyeon from dia and brags about it constantly.

•kang soonyoung, older brother, age 27. works part-time at the gyeongsangbuk-do arboretum back home in pohang. went back to school for culinary arts and volunteers at a   soup kitchen. currently looking for a stable job as a chef closer to where his sisters are. sends jinyoung and nayoung care packages from him and his parents, complete with pictures from home. engaged to choi miran, a pastry chef.

•kang siyang, father, age 58. works at the jukdo market in pohang selling seafood with his wife junghee. used to live in jeju-do and made yeot (which is how he met his wife, who would buy from him every day.) moved to pohang for his wife who wanted to be closer to her parents, and raised his kids there as well. known for hosting dinners at his house for his coworkers after long days catching fish and known for being a horrible drinker. soonyoung writes down quotes he makes throughout the weeks to send to jinyoung for her long nights.

•kang junghee, mother, age 56. works at the jukdo market with her husband. originally worked as a gardener at the same arboretum soonyoung works at currently, and moved to jeju-do at the age of 22 with a couple of friends. married her husband three years later. known in her community as being an amazing chef and a makeshift tailor as well as being able to drink more than most men. loves to videochat with her daughters and constantly has trot music playing in her house.
