  48. In the fall of 1944, four African-American soldiers find themselves caught behind enemy lines and surrounded by German soldiers. They take refuge in a small Italian village that has been temporarily vacated by the Germans. In their company in a small boy, obviously shell-shocked and feverish, who seems only to speak to his invisible friend Arturo. Tensions rise among the four men not only because of their life-threatening situation but also because two of them become rivals for the attention of an attractive young woman. When they manage to make contact with their unit, they are told to capture a German soldier for questioning and with the aid of the Italian partisans, have a candidate. What they don't realize is that there is a traitor in the partisan group, one that will have major repercussion on one of the men 40 years later.
  49. Christmas, 1983. A New York postal clerk, a Buffalo Soldier in Italy in World War II, shoots a stranger. In his apartment, police find a valuable Italian marble head, missing since the war. Flashbacks tell the story of four Black soldiers who cross Tuscany's Serchio River, dodging German and friendly fire. With a shell-shocked boy in tow, they reach the village of Colognora. Orders via radio tell them to capture a German soldier for questioning about a counteroffensive. In the village, a beautiful woman, partisans that include a traitor and a local legend, the boy, and the story of a recent massacre connect to the postal worker's anguish forty years later. And the miracle?
  50. In all the cries of racism, you are overlooking the fact that Spike Lee simply turned a BOOK called &quot;Miracle at St. Anna&quot; by JAMES MCBRIDE into a screenplay. Have you read the book? Perhaps you should before you vilify Spike any further.<br/><br/>In the author&#39;s note McBride states &quot; This book is a work of fiction inspired by real events and real people...&quot; He clearly states it is a work of fiction but based on real things. There is nothing wrong with him deciding to bring to life in words a brief glimpse into one of the battles of the Buffalo Soldiers. Nor is there anything wrong with Spike deciding to bring that same story to the big screen.<br/><br/>Read the book with an open mind then see the movie with an open mind. You might actually learn something.
  51. I rather enjoyed the latest offering from renowned film artist, Spike Lee. I think this latest film shows the growth that Spike Lee has experienced since his last release. We still see many familiar faces from his previous films like John Leguizamo and John Turturro (and even Kerry Washington returns to this Lee joint) - but we also see many new faces like Derek Luke and Michael Ealy to his films. If Denxel Washington is any indication, then these young actors are destined for greatness. Back to the move plot - - &gt;&gt; yes, it gets weighed down in a few places - like a gratuitous sex plot - which do take away from the overall movies mission. However, I rather enjoyed the sub plots, the interesting twists and the end result. Spike really did a good job and despite this film, by a black filmmaker, opening in about 1000 theaters (versus the 3000+ for Eagle Eye from a white filmmaker), I certainly hope he gets consideration for the Oscars - even if its for lighting and/or costumes alone. I recommend this one to all.
  52. You may begin to wonder if Lee really initiated this project or if it only fell into his hands after Roberto Benigni proved unavailable.
  53. Miracle at St. Anna is also a 2003 novel written by American writer and musician James McBride. Those who have both read the book and the script say that several themes in the book have been enhanced for the movie. The supernatural aspect has been muted somewhat, but the religious Christian aspect has been made more pointed for characters on all sides—Bufflo Soldiers, Italians and Germans. Other details were also changed. For example, Hector didn&#39;t earn a purple heart but a silver star. Rudolfo recognizes the fact that he&#39;s going to get shot and doesn&#39;t seem to have come to terms with it. (In the book, he doesn&#39;t realize until the last second what&#39;s happening and is a little more OK with his fate.) Hector barely ever looks at who comes up to the window. In the book, he looks, notices a flashy ring, and then looks to see whose face it is. (This is important to the story because it is this small detail that makes the viewer/reader realize that the Black Butterfly has exacted his revenge from beyond the grave.) The movie&#39;s script seems to draw out a sex scene that was only referenced in the book. a5c7b9f00b
