Quick 500 Word Story

Twilight Sparkle was walking from the library towards the center of town. She wasn't entirely sure where she was going, but something drew her towards the center of town.

Perhaps destiny. Perhaps hunger.

Indeed, the alicorn princess felt a rumble and heard a grumble. She had skipped her previous meal and was paying the price now. What she really needed was a delicious hoofwheat sandwich from her favorite restaurant.

As she made her way to the little diner, Rainbow Dash landed right next to her.

"Hey Twi, sup?" said the cyan mare.

"Oh, hi Rainbow! What's up?"

Rainbow squared her eyes at Twilight. She spoke with a deadpan.

"Uhhh, I just asked you that first."

Twilight giggled.

"Oops, sorry. I'm really hungry. I'm heading to get a bite to eat. And you?"

Rainbow took to the air just beside Twilight and did a spin.

"Me? Oh, not much, juuuuust on my way to go hang out with Spitfire and Soarin' of the WONDERBOLTS. Thought I'd come down and say hello before I did."

Twilight raised a brow.

"Big celebrity now, huh Rainbow?"

Rainbow smiled from ear to ear.

“Yeah! I guess so! You noticed, eh Twi?”

Twilight rolled her eyes. Another turn in her stomach and something that sounded like a dying buffalo made her bring a hoof to her stomach.

“Ugh,” she moaned. “I really shouldn’t have skipped breakfast!”

The two had entered a clearing, and to their left was the restaurant that Twilight was looking for. There was a wooden sign hanging over the door with a picture of a sandwich on it. Twilight jumped and laughed.
“Oh great, we’re here! I’m so excited!” Twilight chimed. Rainbow made a disregarding spitting noise.
“What’s so great about that place?” Rainbow said, landing back on the ground. Twilight turned to Rainbow.
“Well, Rainbow,” said Twilight matter-of-factly, “They just so happen to make the best hoofwheat sandwich in Ponyville.”

Rainbow raised a brow incredulously.

“Oh yeah? The best in Ponyville?”

Twilight responded with a smile and an “mhm” and continued forward. Today was particularly beautiful, and so most of Ponyville was out and about. Fillies and colts ran around playing their games, and the adults were busy with shopping, talking, and preparing for the Summer Sun Festival.

“Okay, you enjoy your little hoofwheat sandwich!” Rainbow said as Twilight continued onward. “I have a date with a few AWESOME pegasi!” And with that Rainbow shot up with a rainbow streak behind her and was a dot on the horizon in ten seconds flat.

Twilight looked back at where Rainbow just was and rolled her eyes with a smile.

“That Rainbow,” she thought. With one final protest, she finally listened to her stomach and walked towards the restaurant.

“Yeah yeah, I hear you stomach, don’t worry.”

Twilight shoved open the restaurant door, B-lined for her favorite seat, and waited patiently for her sandwich to arrive. She shook her head.

“Oops, first I have to order, THEN the sandwich will come!”
