  26. It's worth noting that YouTube is a gargantuan user of bandwidth - if I recall correctly, it was estimated to use about a third of the Internet's total bandwidth all to itself, a few years ago.
  27.
  28. Yes, one website using 33% of the whole Internet, bandwidth-wise.
  29.
  30. Even with a far more modest "small YouTube" in mind, you have to appreciate that any "video on demand" site delivers the videos out to each user. So if the video is, say, 1GB in size (at 4K 60fps, that's a bit too easy to rapidly achieve) and 1000 people watch it, then that's 1TB of data that the servers have to send out. If it's 10,000 views then it's 10TB of data that needs shifting.
  31.
  32. Basically, the numbers very rapidly add up - and bandwidth usage is the big problem here.
  33.
  34. (Disk space is not a big deal, as you only need host the videos once. CPU is not a big deal either, in that what you're ultimately doing is just serving static files. RAM is not a big deal, as videos can be streamed out in manageable chunks. But what "video on demand" really demands is bandwidth - as you've got to serve those big video files to each and every user.)
  35.
  36. So this very much depends on how many videos - and how much disk space they collectively take - and how many views you expect, as anything beyond the most modest of requirements, becoming popular, is go to start chewing through bandwidth at a rate of knots.
  37.
  38. Thus, you definitely need a host that's generous on its bandwidth. And, if the site starts attracting very many visitors, then it'll quickly break through every host's "reasonable usage" of bandwidth - and you'll have to consider that it needs dedicated and unlimited bandwidth. That it's the kind of site that can rapidly go beyond what any hosting provider is reasonably offering.
  39.
  40. This is why you'll find pretty much all websites - even the large news providers - most often tend to host their videos on YouTube (or Vimeo) and then embed them, to let them handle the bandwidth, as they're set up for it.
  41.
  42. I checked out the pricing. If your budget is low, then I suggest you host on YouTube for a while before growing, to build on Cyan Space's point.

  57. With that budget, go for a dedicated server with good bandwidth.

  62. Well, dont go for a dedicated server for such requirements. A VPS should do the trick perfectly. I can guide you for a good vps server if you like,
