Only thing that kept running thorough my mind is what went wrong ng with this movie
My wife and I watched this at home on DVD from our public library. It is a heist movie, it runs a big long at 2+ hours and drags a bit in the middle. We have seen many heist movies over the years, this one doesn&#39;t really bring much new to the genre.<br/><br/>As the movie opens subtitles tell us L.A. is the bank heist capital of the world. Gerard Butler, looking and acting a lot like Mel Gibson, is L.A.P.D. officer Nick O&#39;Brien. As the movie opens we witness a brazen heist of an empty armored truck, Nick arrives in the aftermath and wonders why. It all comes together near the end.<br/><br/>It is the work of the best heist gang in L.A., an intelligent group of former cops and military men, led by Pablo Schreiber as Ray Merrimen. Most of the movie is a cat-N-mouse game to see if the cops can figure out what the gang is planning and thwart it.<br/><br/>It is mostly interesting, we were mostly entertained. There was a pretty big twist at the end. It will especially appeal to those who like to view extended chase scenes with lots of rapid gunfire.
Den of Thieves is better at set-up than follow-through. The movie is clever enough, until it cheats. It tries to fill in its characters, until reducing them to plot devices.
