41. Peter Parker's having a rough time. His double life as the super hero Spider-Man is having a devastating impact on his civilian life. Things are so bad he declares that he's quitting and never putting on the suit again. However, his sense of duty forces him to become a hero again when the brilliant scientist Dr. Otto Octavius is transformed in an accident and becomes Dr. Octopus. With four metal tentacles sticking out of his back, he'll prove to be a more than worthy opponent for Spider-Man.
 42. Peter Parker is an unhappy man: after two years of fighting crime as Spider-Man, his life has begun to fall apart. The girl he loves is engaged to someone else, his grades are slipping, he cannot keep any of his jobs, and on top of it, the newspaper Daily Bugle is attacking him viciously, claiming that Spider-Man is a criminal. He reaches the breaking point and gives up the crime fighter's life, once and for all. But after a failed fusion experiment, eccentric and obsessive scientist Dr. Otto Octavius is transformed into super villain Doctor Octopus, Doc Ock for short, having four long tentacles as extra hands. Peter guesses it might just be time for Spider-Man to return, but would he act upon it?
 43. I've probably seen this film 50 times and it never gets old. It's easily the best Spiderman film and has no competition in my mind.

This film expanded the story of the first one with Peter struggling to merge his life as Spiderman with his normal life. It really puts Peter down at every chance it gets which makes the audience really care for him as nothing seems to go right for him and he's only trying to do the right thing. That's why at the end, it feels so satisfying when he reveals himself to Mary Jane.

Doctor Octopus was also a very good villain and probably better than the Green Goblin. He felt like a normal guy and not some generic boring villain we would come to see more in the other films after.

Overall this film never has a dull moment, there are so many memorable scenes sprinkled throughout and the pace keeps going, making for a very entertaining film. This is just one of those rare super hero films that actually stands out as a good film and not just a superhero film.
 44. I have a question. Doctor Octavious is a normal human, right? I'm correct in assuming he wasn't a mutant of some kind before he got the tentacles, right? Then why, after numerous encounters with spider man, the good doctor shows no real sign of fatigue. The tentacles, though extremely powerful, do not enhance his physical state. Fighting spider man, a superhuman-mutant with enhanced speed, strength, and reflexes, should have severely injured the obviously out of shape Octavious. I mean if it was possible for me to get mechanical tentacles attached to my spinal cord and I fought spider man, if he landed more than three hits I'd be out cold. Oh, I thought the movie was fantastic though. I'm not criticizing Sam Raimi or anything It's just that I find it a little weird.
 45. Amazingly, it's not all the visual splendor or killer action sequences that elevate Spider-Man 2 above its predecessor and almost every superhero movie that has come before.
 46. "Hold On" by Jet. In theory, the amount of heat and gravitational pull from a star, even one that size, would be enough to pull in and vaporize the water around it. We should have seen a very large column of steam rising out of the river, but it is a detail that was probably over looked or not even considered. Basically, there are three different cuts available throughout the world. First of all, there is the well-known theatrical version¹ that has been altered prior to the British cinema release² by Sony and unfortunately found its way to nearly all PAL DVDs. One headbutt has been replaced with a normal punch. The US DVD is uncut. Then, just in time for the theatrical release of Spider-Man 3 (2007) an Extended Cut³ has been released to the home media market that runs approximately 8 minutes longer than the theatrical version. This extended version features several different kind of new scenes—story extensions, romance, action—but in principle this extended version is only worth for the die-hard fan. And by the way, the European versions of the Extended Cut are still altered in the same way as the theatrical version, thanks to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) and Sony. a5c7b9f00b
