her story is nothing out of the ordinary. she is the daughter to two loving parents, an older sister to a bratty younger brother, the owner of a fat cat who gets spoiled too much. she's loved singing every since she was young. the idol yoo jooin starts from humble beginnings.

she has always been hiding behind her mother's legs or clinging onto her father's hand when she's not sure how to approach something new. she is the little girl who signed up for the school talent show when she's in year 3 of elementary school because she wanted to sing, but her voice is caught in her throat when she's on standby and suddenly she doesn't want to do this anymore. jooin is standing front and center, just her, a microphone stand, and a filled auditorium of parents. what makes her feel worse is looking back and seeing a worried expression on her teacher's face, watching the other students whisper among themselves as she continues to stand frozen in front of an audience. she runs off stage and cries in the bathroom.

yoo jooin is a doubter. she worries, too much, about all the things that could go wrong, spends too much time comparing herself to others. how many times does she have nightmares about the talent show in elementary school? how many times does she think about her love for singing but remind herself of all the things that make her unfit to be an idol? she is the soft-spoken girl standing in front of second star entertainment when they are accepting audition tapes for new trainees, a usb drive in her hands clutched in between clammy hands and tense fingers. as she walks away from the building, her audition submission in the mailbox, she looks back over her shoulder.  she doubts she'd pass the first round.

expecting failure, she never'd believe in a million years she would get a phone call addressed to her from the entertainment company. "thank you for your audition, yoo jooin-ssi. we'd like to have you back for the second round of evaluations." she is sixteen years old when second star gives her a contract.
