[5:57 PM] D-XIII(S) Flicker: @Kyr You do realise ICE also deals with transnational gangs, counter-terrorism, drug trafficking, cyber crimes, child exploitation and arms trafficking, yes? If you were to abolish ICE, or their parent division Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), you'd have more violent crime from international gangs, more drug-related crime, more child exploitation, and more guns in the US. They keep as many illegal, trafficked weapons off US (and by extension Canadian) streets as they can, and that in and of itself I'm grateful for. All the things above are illegal, and the less of it there is the better.

Is what's happening at the border morally justifiable? fuck no. It's horrible and should not be happening. BUT.... ICE needs to verify that the shit I mentioned above is not happening, and over a third of ICE's resources are in the C3 (Cyber Crimes Centre) and their CES (Child Exploitation Section). They need to verify, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the children are in fact the children of the parents or adults, and that the adults are the verifiable legal guardians. Is there a better way to do this? Yes, yes there is. But this isn't new, and shit takes time to actually change. An EO doesn't last forever, and Trump needs to pull his shit together and either come up with a compromise or force a solution.

But attacking members of ICE who do good work to keep the streets of the US safe, or keep people overseas safe, that's not right. Think of it like the Wehrmacht in Nazi Germany. Some are inherently bad, like Gohring, but others like Rommel are not. Are there shit people in ICE? Probably. Cite the guy making the orchestra joke on recording as children scream in the background. But there are good people in ICE. Cite every single sex trafficker, weapons smuggler, terrorist, and gang member ever apprehended by ICE officers.
