  2. I've just been agonising about how introducing hermaphrodites into a normally bi-gender species gets really confusing from a genetic standpoint (based partly on considering your characters' families)... and then worked out a genetic model for a third chromosome type and how it interacts with existing chromosomes to spare my sanity. XD
  3. If you're curious, I can share my idea, heh.

  5. Huh! Neat ^_^ That's actually pretty cool, in a way! And sure, if you want.

  7. OK, so, in addition to X and Y chromosomes, imagine a mutant variant which I'll call the 'H' chromosome.
  8. XH is a true hermaphrodite, with both sets of gametes- can both sire and bear children. With a normal XX woman, that means they'll have XX or XH children.
  9. HH, I'm thinking, is functionally male, but, well, trappy. All children of an HH and an XX will be XH; with an XH, they can have XH or HH children.
  10. XY can't reproduce with HH; with XH, they can get XX, XH, XY, or YH. And I haven't decided on what should happen with YH.
  11. That said, if you use that idea, you can make things make... more genetic sense.
  12. Unless, hmmm. Idea.
  13. HH, instead of being trappy, still only has male genitalia, but actually develops with full-up female secondary sexual characteristics. While YH is more just 'trap'.
  14. Thoughts?
  15. Or ways you'd handle the system differently?
  16. Lacey/Nuriko08/14/2018
  17. No, that seems pretty accurate in a strange way, honestly.
  18. nweismuller08/14/2018
  19. Well, I'd welcome you to steal the system wholesale, then.
  20.

  22. Hehe, fair enough! I may!
  23. nweismuller08/14/2018
  24. (And yeah, that means children of two XH's will be XX, XH, or HH.)
  25. Lacey/Nuriko08/14/2018
  26. Makes sense to me, I think!
  27. nweismuller08/14/2018
  28. See, that's where I can see adapting for taste- 'what exactly would you prefer HHs to end up being?' If you want two XH's to be able to have trappy boys as children, you'd want to define HH that way. (If you did that, I'd suggest just making YH result in early failure of the pregnancy due to developmental difficulties.)
  29. Like, 'miss a period, then get your next period' early failure.
