Background: Minji had a normal background. She grew up like any kid would, wanting to do well in school, making friends, finding hobbies and later on part-time jobs. That's what Minji's life was like. There's nothing special about her really, but she's always had a passion for music. From a young age she had always wanted to be on stage, to be able to preform like the other idols. Her parents let her take vocal lessons when she was 6 and even when she stopped learning from a teacher, she taught herself. Later on when Minji was 13 she also took contemporary, ballet and jazz dance. Minji's parents weren't exactly sure why she wanted these lessons at the time, but let her do them anyways. When Minji finally told them that she wanted to be an idol, they were far from supportive. Minji was an only child, and her parents cherished her deeply. They were really over-protective and hardly ever let her go anywhere by herself. So them accepting her dream was a big step in itself. When she decided to audition for a company at the age of 18, her parents finally supported her. After Minji was accepted she moved in at the company and rarely saw her parents again. Although she missed them, she didn't regret it. After awhile of training, Minji was offered a spot on a survival show as a contestant from her company. She accepted the offer and joined season 2 of Star Struck.
