  2. 6 years ago many individuals across England started rioting on the streets of the capital city and other large cities such as Manchester and Salford. This presentation is about an essay plan that criminology and sociology students including myself, have been asked to research and write about the 2011 Greater Manchester riots.

  4. As every essay needs an intro my plan for that is to speak generally about the civil conflict in
  5. Greater Manchester, allowing the readers of the essay to better understand the finer details of what happened. Furthermore the intro will include a plan about how the key arguments are going
  6. to be answered, such as the topic of the essay "To what extent should we explain the 2011 civil conflict in Greater Manchester ‘simply’ as bad individuals choosing to offend? “The media played a paramount role in the way they present these rioters, this is a topic i have to take under consideration and based on my findings i will discuss about it in the essay
  7. Last but not least there will be a brief explanation to why this subject is so important and how this essay is going to answer what David Cameron, the Prime Minister at that time said, 'This is criminality pure and simple'.

  9. Research will be included in this essay not only because it gives more information about
  10. the topic, but also makes it more interesting. For example, research about what individuals said or expresed to the press from theyr point of view according to theyr beliefs about the riots gives us a clearer image on how people feel and react about this specific topic. The option to discuss further and analyse any case in an extension is an advantage that is gained through the research procedure.I will be Researching, Analysing, finding and using Examples of other similar riots and responses to the them, varius Arguments and References. This is how i will create my initial essay plan.

  13. One of my arguments in the essay will be about how different was the rioting between Salford and Manchester city centre? Why did this all happen?Did they riot for the man who got shot and killed
  14. from the police?or was this all about goods? As the Greater Manchester police's chief said to the guardian newspaper "Certainly most of it in Manchester was about getting goods, breaking into places and stealing things. Salford I think was slightly different. It was more about attacking us and the fire services."HE SAID. Statements like this are going to be referrenced in the essay not only because references are important to avoid plagiarism but because they are necessary for an essay.Who are the ones to blame after all about what happened back then? Why the police didnt stop them?Is the blame on the police that didnt have enough officers? The policymakers that do not provide any solutions for the high unemployment rate? or the riots, thugs and poor that are in need of goods?Based on research and evidence this is
  15. another topic i will focus and analyse.

  18. In order to keep the essay as simple as possible, there will be one main point for discussion in each paragraph.Staying on topic is important as no one likes to talk, write or hear about nonsense. Combining different key points at once can make the essay more complicated and leads sometimes in an out of topic writing,so i need to chose my topics wisely.

  21. According to the sentence that David Cameron said This is criminality pure and simple, there are quite a few things to think about.
  22. He was obviously refering to the rioters but does that mean that all of the rioters in general are criminals?Who was involved in the riot?
  23. Perhaps some people gathered in the first place to protest against the death of that man in London and more and more people joined them with a different intention. Many of them propably found the apportunity to take advantage of what is going on, and violence started
  24. becoming more intense so they damaged, torched, stole and even completely destroyed properties of other people for theyr own needs and desires.
  25. Research and evidence will be also provided so we can understand who these people were. Many of them felt powerful and fearless in the massive crowd because they had in their minds they will escape from getting prosecuted. Based on my findings when BBC asked some young people why they were rioting, they claimed it was a response to the government cut. Another one mentioned that there are only a few people arrested so he would keep doing the thing he was doing everyday until he gets caught. "Why are you going to miss the opportunity?
  26. To get free stuff that's worth loads of money? "These are the words one of the youths used, to describe his point of view.
  27. As for the essays main question To what extent should we explain the 2011 civil conflict in Greater Manchester ‘simply’ as bad individuals choosing to offend? Many of the things mentioned above can be a part of an answer but since this question is debatable, some might think that these people are bad by judging their actions, while others might have a different opinion. With further research and analysis in depth, i will end up giving a more specific answer.
