  1. CAT023-The Lost Caustic Window Album.
  2.
  3. By Bowgie (Mike P.) and Joyrex
  4.
  5. This was an email that was sent to me (Joyrex) about the
  6. rumored "CAT023" a white label Caustic Window album that
  7. Rich has had done for about 3 years now. What follows is
  8. Bowgie's description of the album, as he is one of four (4)
  9. people who have the album. It is rumored that Bowgie is
  10. actually Mu-ziq (aka Mike Paradinas). This has not been
  11. confirmed.
  12.
  13. A full tracklisting is impossible since it's a white label.
  14. There are no titles:Untitled.
  15.
  16. It has hand written labels by RDJ: SIDE 1) in black marker
  17. pen: "CAUSTIC WINDOW LP 33 1/3 SIDE A REPHLEX" in the run
  18. out groove: "CAT 023-A1 A PORKY PRIME CUT"
  19.
  20. There are two tracks on side A, the first is a subtle
  21. melodic grower, with hi q's; pianoish DX sounds & woodwind
  22. type synths.nice but not very immediate. Track 2 is *much*
  23. more like it: Industrial type drums straight out of J5 and
  24. the catchiest afx acid line (not 303). Builds and builds
  25. with pad sounds & percessive held chords in a spooky
  26. fashion.
  27.
  28. SIDE 2) Same hand written info except it says: "SIDE B" in
  29. black marker pen and in the run out groove it's the same but
  30. says side "L"
  31.
  32. 5 Tracks on B:
  33.
  34. Track 1) called "muttley" by Richard. It features samples
  35. from "dastardly & Muttley"(Wacky Races Cartoon) starting off
  36. with Dastardly shouting "Muttley!" then Muttley the dog
  37. going "RashingFrashingWrarraFrarraWrash". Other samples: A
  38. girl speaking: "You know I don't even know why you bother
  39. talking" and the track ends with "what an utterly
  40. fantastical journey" (unknown sample) As regards to the
  41. music, it starts with a monophonic synth line doing a
  42. percussive riff up 4 notes, joined by another sound a few
  43. bars later. Then the drums kick in. Bass and snare from
  44. Phloam, sort of metallic guiro and clangs from Schottkey.
  45. Halfway through an orchestral string chords sample comes in, and the girl speaking sample appears.
  46. It's a great track, very SAW85-92 in period.
  47.
  48. Track 2) Happy, jolly little track with high pitched
  49. bell-like hihats acid sounds and long square wave bass note.
  50. Random dat glitches spice up the percussion. The melody
  51. comes from the interplay of tuned bass drum & tuned metal
  52. hihats.
  53.
  54. Track3) Wow!This is a treat for fans of SOSW. Starts with
  55. Roland R8 hihats,then a marimba melody & the BD Kikkz in
  56. with an acidicish line.marimba fades in again. Then a BB1 DX
  57. pad in 5ths (lots of reverb) makes it fuckin lush. Drum
  58. break then the track restarts with stabs from Audax powder,
  59. then acid & marimba. Track ends wth drums.
  60. Track 4) My favourite: Noisey drum loops (Tuned white
  61. noise?) acid pokes. Bass drum from Hedphelym or the B-sides
  62. to ABB2. Also odd bell like High melodies & metallic sampled
  63. melodies! very odd track.
  64.
  65. Track 5) Tribal bongos, Quoth Bd kik &
  66. "a,aphex-a,aphex"samples. About 1 min. long.
  67.
  68. SIDE 3) Handwritten on label: "CW LP side C" and in the run
  69. out groove it says; "THIRD REICH VETERANS WILL NOT JOIN
  70. VICTORY WAR PARADE. CAT 023 -01" 4 tracks
  71.
  72. Track 1) Very simple synth melody & 4/4 kik drum / snare
  73. joined later by emotional sounding soft detuned string
  74. notes. Hihats and hi Q's join later and lo-bandwidth
  75. metallic samples.
  76.
  77. Track 2) A very early track. One of the 1st he did. Childish
  78. squeaky acid line. Crap piano riff. Redeemed by lush strings
  79. & reverb on certain drum sounds, which might have indicated
  80. Here was a future talent.
  81.
  82. Track 3) Square wave bassline, melodic held acid line, R8
  83. drums. Simple lovely very Aphex.
  84.
  85. Track 4) Jazz fusion aphex! Drum sounds similar to Gak.
  86. Sounds like Gak in fact except for a low farting bass and
  87. muted jazzy piano riff & overlaid solos.
  88.
  89. SIDE 4) "CAUSTIC WINDOW LP . side D" handwritten in black on
  90. label in runout groove:"CAT 023 - G1 A PORKY PRIME CUT " 5
  91. tracks
  92.
  93. Track 1) An ambient track. This was a reject from SAW85-92
  94. and is unspeakably lovely. A monophonic synth weaves around
  95. soft flutes to devastating effect. The synth filter opens &
  96. closes to emphasise the riff at certain times, & the flute
  97. goes freestyle towards the end. Metallic percussion invades
  98. the song at times complementing the groovy momentum gathered
  99. by the main riff.
  100.
  101. Track 2) This is Phlaps off the criminal justice bill comp.
  102.
  103. Track 3) This is Cunt off TEX 3
  104.
  105. Track 4) This is a phone call between Mixmaster Morris &
  106. Scanner. Richard got 2 phones, rang them both (one to
  107. Morris, one to Scanner) and luckily they both answered
  108. simultaneously. What follows is very funny. Both Morris &
  109. Robin think each other has initiated the call and confusion
  110. reigns. This increases as a third voice enters the fray
  111. (RDJ). Eventually they recognise him as Richard: "If you put
  112. the phone down your gonna die.."
  113.
  114. Track 5) Same trick between Chris Jeffs & Mike Paradinas
  115. .This time Cylob figures it out straight away but the
  116. funniest bit is where he says "I think Richard wants us to
  117. talk to each other", to which Mike replies "Oh great..."
  118. track (& album) ends.
  119.
  120. You can post this info on the joyrex site (is that you?) or
  121. wherever. I promised Richard not to let anyone have copies.
  122. I stick to that.
