Ok, I continue to be of the opinion that the partial just-because-it-is-you ban for Shroom is pure insanity, and I remind everyone that I started the last ban discussion with perma, because that's what I feel he deserves.

I explained it at the time, but I'm going to go over it again now, and go into painful detail, just in case anyone is interested.

I have invested a lot in these forums. Not just as glomo, but the entire time I have been here, from early sessions of talking to other members and giving random advice, to becoming a User Representative, and writing general advice threads, including stuff that has been made part of the official rules of the site. I have worked REALLY hard to cheer up the downtrodden, and encourage the timid, and promote the idea that everyone should be happy, kind, reasonable, responsible, generous, compassionate, engaged, attentive, expressive, and all the things that make the world a better place. Hell, I've helped talk people down from suicide. And, this isn't just me saying I did stuff. I've gotten approval and recognition from you guys, countless times, across a broad spectrum of activity. You have told me that you have found what I say to be true, and that my advice has solved your problems.

So, when I say that I have a good idea of what's going on, I am not saying that I kinda think that I might know part of what is going on. I am saying that I have spent a lot of time on this, talked to a number of people, studied it from a number of angles, brought to bear the full weight of everything I know, analyzed it every way I know how, and I am prepared to say that I completely understand what is going on with the entirety of this. More importantly, since I have encouraged everyone to be compassionate and reasonable in all things, that I have also filtered all opinions on possible actions through that set of requirements.

Shroom wants to destroy. He wants to destroy parts of the site that he doesn't like, including kicking out people he doesn't like. Shroom is not interested in discussion or compromise. Shroom wants what he wants. Shroom doesn't care that we don't agree. Shroom is Shroom. I don't know if it was the fourth or fifth time that I spent 4+ hours straight talking to Shroom before he turned around, ignored what I said, and caused more trouble, before I realized that after MONTHS of talking to him, he was, in fact, getting WORSE. He had crystallized and cemented his campaign to eliminate the people he saw as threats, Raz primary amongst them, and just got more specifically vicious with each round of discussion. He fixed what he felt like fixing, and ignored what he was not interested in fixing, and just kept on doing what he wanted. His passive-agressive meter pegged, and he completely buried the needle on it, talking so much to everyone who would listen about how bad the people he villified were, that he made a GROUP of people, regular users and staff, LEAVE THE SITE. (For the record, I count that as getting worse.)

Now, I may be many things, but I am not an idiot, and I am not a sucker, and I know when to give up on lost causes. I am not saying that Shroom is NEVER going to get better, but he is not going to get better by doing anything that he is doing HERE, and is in fact getting worse, so, literally, for his own good, much less ours, he needs to be cut off.

Now, when I say cut off, I mean his ability to communicate directly with this forum and chat. I am not asking for people to completely exile him and never speak to him again, but what I DO want completely cut off, is his ability to attack people here. No posting in the forums, no chatting in the chat, and none of us saying "I'll pass the suggestion on." Completely. Cut. Off.

Now. I have been hellishly busy, and you guys managed to talk me down from perma to a few months. And then I didn't get a chance to really weigh in on the whole let's-let-him-join-the-LDC thing, which has confused things further because that's one of the parts of the site that he enjoys, and so it is entirely understandable that he is behaving there, and then people think that he is better because he is acting nice over there. This is not the test. The test is letting him back into the other parts of the site that he does NOT like, and see if he can refrain from going on a rampage over there. Because if he starts the slightest hint of trouble when he gets full access again, so help me gods, I will ban him so hard, his whole town won't be able to log in ever again. I am one of the kindest and most compassionate people you will ever meet, but I have my limits, and I will do whatever is necessary to protect the people I love.
