if your troops are about to run out of ammo (5% or less) feel free to send them back to the resupply point without asking, but use situational and map awareness to insure you arent going to miss a large push by enemy forces. if you are unsure ask
you do not need to run all the way to the resupply point with your troops, you can hold X and send them to it on their own, PLEASE do this by running to the back wall of the courtyard so you will be present in case of an emergency and not need to run back to the courtyard
be wary of mortar or scorpio fire, if the enemy is attacking using mortars or scorpios have your troops hug the interior of the first wall, your priority should be to destroy those and any attacking artillery
