  1. The text starts off with our young narrator, who learns about Innsmouth when, a ticket man at newburyport tells him about the port of Innsmouth, he is intrigued because of what the ticket man tells him, apparently the citizens of Innsmouth are shunned because of their appearance, described as, i quote “There certainly is a strange kind of streak in the Innsmouth folks today-I don’t know how to explain it, but it sort of makes you crawl...Some of ’em have queer narrow heads with flat noses and bulgy, stary eyes that never seem to shut, and their skin ain’t quite right. Rough and scabby, and the sides of their necks are all shrivelled or creased up.” After that the narrator heads off to learn about the port of Innsmouth at the local library where he sees A strange golden tiara supposed to be from a sailor that came from Innsmouth, Later in the day, after being so interested in Innsmouth our narrator takes the bus to Innsmouth, on the way there when driving in Innsmouth, he points out how everything is all broken down and looks abandoned, lifeless. After arriving in Innsmouth, he proceeds to find a person called Zodak Allen, which is a person whos knows alot about Innsmouth, he is rumored to be very crazy and shouts obscenities at people passing, When coming in contact with Allen he starts to about the history of innsmouth and hows its related to demons and monsters and cults and things along those lines, he then reveals that an Innsmouth merchant named Obed Marsh discovered these sea creatures named “The Deep Ones”, and when hard times fell on the city he resorted to doing ritual practices to gain fortunes from the deep ones, then he also reveals that the Human Residents of innsmouth were forced to breed with the deep ones, which also explains the rough and scabby nature of the Innsmouth residents today, another interesting part of Zodaks character is his accent, Changing words like There into “thar or where into “whar” for instance, “Thar’s whar it all begun—that cursed place of all wickedness whar the deep water starts. Gate o’ hell—sheer drop daown to a bottom no saoundin’-line kin tech. Ol’ Cap’n Obed done it—him that faound aout more’n was good fer him in the Saouth Sea islands”. After talking a lot about the backstory of the town he runs off in a drunken craze saying “They know about us!” Referring to the conversation they had, later that day the narrator tries to leave the town by bus but the bus had “Broken down” so he is forced to stay in the musty Gilman Hotel where he is shown to his room. Later that night he hears someone trying to break into his room and plots his escape route, after escaping through the window he makes a run for it but The deep ones are still chasing him, after taking a route out of town he walks towards railroad tracks but hears a procession of Deep ones on the road below him, against his judgement he opens his eyes and sees the Deep ones and faints at his hiding spot. Later in life researching his family tree he realizes he is a descendant of Obed marsh, and is undergoing the transformation into a deep one, accepting his faint he takes himself to the deep ones city beneath the sea.
