  1.
  2. Part 1 – “Formation”
  3. 1. Introduce Simon, and his band before he forms Starry Ladders: Durango 95
  4. 2. They play a gig in a bar in his hometown, Norristown, PA, shit goes wrong (Faulty Sound, shitty audience)
  5. 3. The band decides that enough is enough, much to the chagrin to Simon, who tries (and fails) to convince his old band mates to stay for a little while.
  6. 4. Dejected, Simon drinks himself into a stupor, before smashing his Fender Jazz Bass guitar
  7. 5. Who should appear but an old friend from high school: Barnebus Swain
  8. 6. The two reconnect, talking about shit that happen to them recently, (Barney scoring a gig at a little known (and shitty) festival called Nocturnia, and Simon… well… band being broken up)
  9. 7. Barnebus invites Simon to see his band band, The Kings of Rhye preform at the festival.
  10. 8. Simon at first is a bit reluctant, since the festival is happening on a day he is supposed to be at night school, buuuuut Barnebus convinces him to go after he said that this one girl he had been eyeing will be there, Sidney Lophurr.
  11. 9. Days later, while Simon is studying, he gets a call from his parents, Simon’s mother is upset about Simon failing his classes, and that he better shape up, because if he is kicked out, she won’t welcome him home.
  12. 10. The day of the festival comes, and Simon packs up supplies for the festival
  13. 11. The mother calls him up, reminding him about his Computer tech class tonight.
  14. 12. Simon tries to blow off the conversation, when he spots Barnebus, making his way into his shitty, rusty van, as he gets in, he notices a bunch of liquor bottles in the back, Simon asks if he’s still drinking, though Barnebus blows him off with one of his lines about tonight being a special occasion!
  15. 13. The two of em arrive at the festival, as Simon sees a bunch of degenerate hippies wandering around the festival grounds. Needless to say he feels uncomfortable, that is until he spots Sidney
  16. 14. He goes up to her, and the two start chatting about where they are in life. Sidney basically got a job in the tech industry as a web designer for a big company, while Simon has basically done nothing with his life (So far).
  17. 15. We then meet Roger Mars, Sidney’s new boyfriend from England. It’s clear that Simon is a bit heartbroken. As Sidney goes off to get drinks, he does try to be friendly to Rog, at first things go pretty okay, although Rog brags about being in a band, with Simon kinda sadly saying that he broke up with one not too long ago. Rog gives some decent advice, saying he shouldn’t lose hope.
  18. 16. We then cut to Barnebus’ band back stage, waiting impatiently for Barnebus to show up. It’s clear he’s shown up late to gigs beforehand and the bands are rather sick of it at this point.
  19. 17. Finallly, a drunk Barnebus shows up, too inebriated to preform, it is here where Lou just gives Barney a stern talking to about him showing up, late and drunk (or drugged up) to shows, this being the final straw, and basically says that he is out of the band.
  20. 18. Enraged, Barnebus rants how if it wasn’t for him, the band wouldn’t be at this festival, and then our friend Rog shows up, shoving the drunken Barnebus aside, taking over his role as lead vocalist, basically telling Barney to “Fuck off”.
  21. 19. Barnebus then smashes a bottle of Kahlua over a table, trying to attack Roger as they go on stage to preform, but security pulls him away before he can get in the first cut.
  22. 20. We cut back to Simon and Sidney going to sit somewhere decent, Simon happily tells her that Roger seems to be a pretty cool guy, in which Sidney chuckles, saying she’d knew the two would get along pretty well.
  23. 21. As the audience hears a loud gong reverberate, the band begins their set, with Simon shocked to see Roger preforming on stage rather than Barnebus.
  24. 22. Simon then spots Barnebus, being dragged away from the festival grounds by security while he rants about them being “Rat fuckers” and “traitors”, he then goes to sooth his hurt feelings.
  25. 23. Barnebus and Simon basically chat about their experiences with Roger over shots of vodka, Simon thinking he was alright, but Barnebus rants about how he is a pretty boy cunt. It is there where they decide to form a band together.
  26. 24. Though wait, Simon still has night school classes. Barnebus basically convinces Simon to turn his back on it, being the bad influence he is. It takes a lot of convincing though, but for now, the two drink away to a brighter future.
  27.
  28. Part 2 – “A Star (ry Ladders) Is Born”
  29.
  30. 1. Next day, Simon wakes up to a phone call from an enraged Mother screaming about how he supposedly called up the school, telling him he is done with it and to “shove those soul crushing classes up their asses, I’m forming a band!”. Simon barely remembering what happened last night tried to explain what happened.
  31. 2. She has none of it, basically telling him not to come home! Simon tries to convince her to let her stay, she said she’s not putting up with it no longer…
  32. 3. Simon then angrily calls up Barnebus, chewing him out over fucking over his life, and how he’s now homeless thanks to the stunt they pulled last night! Barnebus tries to cool his jets, telling him he could just live with him in his apartment for a while, much to Simon’s displeasure.
  33. 4. Barnebus covers over to pick up Simon (parking on the dorm’s front lawn) Simon quickly leaves with his backs all packed before getting an earful from the dean. He then notices how ramshackle and beat up Barnebus’ van is. With a deep sigh, he puts his stuff into the back, getting in to the next part of his life.
  34. 5. Before heading out for the apartment, they talk about what sound the band should go for. Barnebus suggests something psychedelic and 60s influenced, Simon suggests a shoegaze sound. They agree that they could go for a combination of both sounds.
  35. 6. First stop on the way to the apartment is to a record shop: El Sleezos Record Shack, a fairly large records store. Its is here we meet Quintell, recommending a customer on some hip hop that’ll get them out of her “Rap is crap” mindset. With a smile, he then spots and greets Barnebus with a hug!
  36. 7. Barnebus quickly introduces Simon to Quintell, talking about how it was Simon was the one who got him into Led Zeppelin III. He then asks Quintell if there were any classic psychedelic and shoegaze albums in stock, he then shows them to
  37. 8. The duo browse through the records, Barnebus collecting some rare gems, while Simon picks up a few classic shoegaze albums, like “Loveless” and “Souvlaki” and the like. Barnebus questions if Simon already had these albums, to which Simon weakly states that he couldn’t pack his record collection, so he must start from scratch
  38. 9. The get what records they want (Simon having to play for it, since Barnebus is “Short on cash”), they then go to Barnebus’ apartment
  39. 10. As they enter, Simon notices how run down and rat infested the building is. Clearly he is regretting his decision more and more…
  40. 11. Enter Barnebus’ room… and it’s like a bomb went off in it, trash all over the floor, the sound of rats clawing around the area, the smell of cat piss is also present. Simon reluctantly enters, lying down onto the couch… which breaks apart immediately.
  41. 12. Barnebus then begins to plan out what the band will be. Simon pitches that the band have no gimmicks, since gimmicks can be pretty tacky at times. Barnebus chastises Simon for that comment.
  42. 13. Simon then suggests that whatever band they form, they should dress as they would in the streets, to show the audience they were authentic shlubby shmucks like them, while Barnebus wants them to dress in all sorts of clothing, he reluctantly agrees, due to budgetary reasons.
  43. 14. Now, the two think up of a name that will certainly grab attention! Bottle Rockets? (Nah, Wes Anderson wouldn’t be a fan), The Londoners! (No, people will be pissed for false advertising), Wait… The Starry Ladders!!
  44. 15. There is a knock at the door, it’s Barnebus’ bastard landlord Reginald, demanding rent for the month, in which Barnebus argues that the power has been very faulty as of late, and the water comes in and out of intervals! Reginald’s excuse is the construction, but Barnebus ain’t buying it, though he does promise to get the rent in, begrudgingly…
  45. 16. The next day, Barnebus and Simon go out to find some gear for the new band, Although Simon suggests they should at least find work beforehand, to at least get a little bit of money for the rent and what not. Barnebus of course leaves that all on Simon as they reach “Uncle Andy’s Music Emporium”
  46. 17. Barnebus goes to browse the guitar section while Simon goes for the basses (The one he used for Durango 95 got smashed by him after the band broke up). Simon eyes a Hofner 500/1 violin bass (he’s a Beatles nerd), Almost buying it immediately, Barnebus comes back with a Rickenbacker 360 12, his reasoning being that he felt the band’s sound should have a little jangle to it! They also buy a couple of guitar peddles, amps, and all the essentials (All under Simon’s credit card, to his chagrin)
  47. 18. As they go back to the van, it takes a while for the thing to start up… This is the beginning of a running gag called “Barnebus’s Van needs to be scrapped” as he starts to freak out, banging against the console like a wild animal, cursing out the “shit box”. Finally it starts up when Simon gives a light thump on the side.
  48. 19. While Barnebus drives like a maniac, Simon quickly gets to work writing down some songs for the band (SOMEONE has to be the songwriter), writing down possible lyric/chord ideas for whatever they were going to perform.
  49. 20. Just then Barnebus Stops over to pick up his girlfriend Stacey, a nice, but a bit ditzy Brunette who is a social media influencer, he comes back out of her house, his hand holding hers, opening the back door of the van for her, where Simon is seated, writing down songs.
  50. 21. As Barnebus drives around, Stacey starts up her Podcast “Stacey Speaks”, using her laptop. She talks about her thoughts and feelings on whatever is happening in the world, this distracts Simon a bit, as he was thinking up a really good song! It is that a song comes on the radio… wait a minute… is that the Kings of Rhye?! How the fuck did they get on the radio? This causes Barnebus to stop the van, getting out… preceding to yell and scream out loud, cursing out his former band mates, and kicking the side of the van. Apparently he didn’t tell Stacey about him being kicked out of the group just yet.
  51. 22. Ten minutes later, with his knuckles bleeding out, he continues to drive the van, talking about how his new band will be bigger than the Kings of Rhye…. Hell, maybe bigger than The Beatles, or any other musical legends. While Simon rolls his eyes over Barney’s grandeur riddled rant, Stacey just stares at him star-eyed, giving her boyfriend the hope he needs!
  52. 23. The van stops at a recording studio, Barnebus wants to record some Demos for the band! Although Simon points out that they don’t even have a drummer yet, much to the annulment of Barnebus.
  53. 24. Borrowing Stacey’s laptop, Simon gets down an ad, asking for an experienced drummer, and a keyboardist (for that British invasion flavor), and paying being negotiable. Barnebus wants to add in “No band geeks”, but Simon shoots him down.
  54. 25. Weeks later, the two get a knock on the door. Paranoid it’s the land lord, Barnebus grabs a frying pan from the sink, hiding behind the door…
  55. 26. With a heavy sigh, Simon goes to answer it, seeing a short, messy red haired girl, holding one of the adverts they printed. Barnebus eyes the girl suspiciously, asking if she was sent by Reginald, to which she gives a bemused look.
  56. 27. Simon notices she brought along a mini moog, asking if she brought it along to audition for them. With a nod, the girls, who introduces herself as Elizabeth, enters the apartment, much to Barnebus’ anger, who asks her promptly to leave, before Simon cuts him off, reprehending him for being rude to their guest.
  57. 28. Simon goes to help Elizabeth set up her equitment, while Barnebus watches, still suspicious that she was sent by Reginald to spy on them, seeing if they we’re actually working on paying the rent for the month, giving her the “I’m watching you’ gesture.
  58. 29. After Simon and Elizabeth are done setting up, Elizabeth goes on with her audition, playing for the two a rendition of the William Tell Overture (the version used in A Clockwork Orange), blowing away both Simon and Barnebus. As the performance ends, both men applaud her, excitingly telling her that she is in!
  59. 30. A day later, while Simon is preparing himself some breakfast (Set to the Blue Danube being played on his Phone), he is then rudely interrupted by a panicked Barnebus, telling him to come with him! Simon asks if they’re being kicked out, to which Barnebus says that it’s worse than that. Apparently there was an electrical fire down at El Sleezos Record Shack, caused by one of the Crosleys, leaving Quintell out of a job.
  60. 31. Hours later, Simon, Barnebus, and Quintell are drowning their sorrows down at a bar, Quintell talking about how he isn’t sure what he is going to do now that he is out of a job. He said he could try to hook up with his old band “The Dr. Teeth Experience” which perks up Barnebus.
  61. 32. Barnebus then asks Quintell what instrument he played in the group, to which he replies Bass, much to Barnebus’ disappointment, although Quintell said that he originally wanted to be their drummer, giving Barnebus a little hope, asking how good he was at the drums.
  62. 33. Quintell offers to play his kit he got a home, to which Barnebus happily agrees, Simon confused with what his friend’s playing at is then snatched from his barstool and into the broken down piece of shit van.
  63. 34. As the trio set up a drum kit in Quintell’s garage, Barnebus talks to Simon about bringing along Elizabeth to see if they’d have some sort of chemistry, while Simon is a bit reluctant, think that things are happening way too fast. Buuut Barnebus’s constant begging caves Simon in, calling her up, and texting her the address.
  64. 35. As Quintell finishes up, he starts to play a little drum beat, wowing the two. This is when Elizabeth comes in on her bicycle, her keyboard in her backpack, Simon goes to help her set up while Barnebus sings Quintells praises.
  65. 36. As Elizabeth gets all set up and acquainted with Quintell, the four start to jam out together, Barnebus feeling a sort of vibration in his bones. He enjoys the chemistry each member brings to the group, and as the sun sets, he can feel that they’re getting into something truly remarkable.

  70. Part 3 – “Live at the Dead Duck Inn”
  71. 1. A couple of weeks later after the first jam session, Simon is trying to find a job to sustain him and Barnebus’ living expenses, as Barnebus is hard at work trying to find gigs for the band. Simon of course chastises him for focusing on the band when they should be figuring out how they’re going to pay the rent.
  72. 2. Barnebus basically tunes him out as he crosses out a couple of gigs, before almost giving up for the day, and going over to see what’s on the television.
  73. 3. Oh look at that, it’s the Kings of Rhye, and they’re apparently going to be headlining a benefit concert to save the citys Zoo apparently being shut down! With a loud angry grunt, Barnebus shuts the TV off, screaming into a pillow (Having been warned about being loud before by that bastard landlord)
  74. 4. Simon sighs as he sets off for a job interview, Barnebus calling him on out on how this could eat up practice time and what not, to which Simon reminds that they have no way of paying the rent, so practice might have to wait for a bit.
  75. 5. Simon goes off to a few interviews, one for a Grocery store, one for IT help desk, and one for packaging at a health food clinic, all of em not working out.
  76. 6. He comes back home, defeated, watching Barnebus and Reginald engaging in a screaming match over the rent, before Simon reluctantly uses the last of the funds he had from home to pay for the rent for the month.
  77. 7. Simon then goes to lie on the couch, feeling so discouraged. Barnebus then gets a call from Quintell… Barnebus then is seen cheering happily at first, then a little disappointed, but still not too upset!
  78. 8. Barnebus then jumps onto Simon, telling him to give up on the search, Because Quintell managed to score em a gig down at a pub called the “Dead Duck Inn”, (Quintell knew the manager of the pub since they were kids) which has some decent pay depending on how good they are. Though the catch is that they have to share the bill with two other bands, something that Barenbus is not happy at, buuuut Simon doesn’t mind that could mean new friends!
  79. 9. The next day, the band gets together to practice at Quintell’s garage, though Elizabeth is a little bit late, due to her coming from a Friend’s house. Barnebus lets her know that he won’t be tolerant on tardiness in the future, Elizabeth giving Barnebus a dirty look.
  80. 10. Barnebus happily announces that he had started writing up a song for the first gig, a little space rock epic entitled “The Rings of Saturn”. Simon said that he also wrote a couple of songs, but Barnebus shushes him a bit, hurting Simon’s feelings a bit.
  81. 11. Now for the song, Barnebus thinks improvising some bits to the song will make it more flashy and cool, suggesting Quintell play the drums as loosly as possible, and for Elizabeth to come up with a cosmic sound on the moog, in which she cuts in, saying she can also find other instruments to play for the song, peaking Barnebus’ interest a bit. She then gets out an electric Banjo that is modified to be played as a more Percussive instrument. Barnebus denies her to use it for this song, but maybe for a future song…
  82. 12. And so the band begins to try out the song, things are a little bit rough at first, Simon’s bass playing being a bit fast for Barnebus’ liking, not sounding quite right for the song. With a deep sigh, Simon plays it a little bit slower, to Barnebus’ liking.
  83. 13. Various things start to happen that slowly frustrate Barnebus, such as Quintell missing his cue for a swirling drum solo, Elizabeth playing too early, Simon slipping behind.
  84. 14. Just as they get a good run on the song... SNAP one of the strings on Barnebus' guitar break... And he cusses out the guitar, seconds away from smashing it until… Quintell’s wife, Suzanne, arrives with groceries in hand, she asks if everything is alright, Quintell covering for Barnebus, saying it’s been a long day.
  85. 15. After the gang helps out with the groceries, Barnebus speaks up, apologizing for his behavior, stating that he just wants this first gig to run as smoothly as possible, to save them from embarrassment, the band understanding completely.
  86. 16. After a quick lunch break, the band gets back in the garage and manages to go through a successful run of the song!
  87. 17. After returning to the apartment, Simon notices a message on the message machine, telling him that he has an interview with “North Southerdton High School” for a job as a janitor the next day. He is happy that there is still hope, but Barnebus chastises him, saying that it’ll cut into band practice. Now Simon has a choice, a job, or his band…
  88. 18. With a deep sigh, Simon reminds him that they have no money left, and he doubts anyone will discover and sign them any time soon just after one performance.
  89. 19. The next day, Simon gets all dressed up nice for the interview, with a snarky comment from Barnebus, calling him a “wage slave”. Simon ignores him, and says that he’ll try to make it to band practice after the interview.
  90. 20. He then sets off to his interview, taking the city bus, having a bit of a bad experience with a couple of unsavory characters (A cocaine sniffing junkie, and a hobo pissing on the seat next to him)
  91. 21. He then arrives at the high school campus, going in to meet with the principal, who almost recognizes him immediately, apparently Simon used to go to this school, and was a… pretty decent student, didn’t get in trouble much, had mediocre grades, kind of blended in with the crowd… The interview goes pretty smooth, and by the end, the principal happily states that he’s perfect for the job!
  92. 22. The job now in the bag, Simon happily leaves the school, waiting for the bus… before he spots a familiar face in the street, Duncan Jones, Simon’s old best friend from high school! The two hug each other and exchange how they have been! Simon asks if Duncan has time for a few drinks, and of course Duncan doesn’t see why not!
  93. 23. At the bar, the two exchange that they have been doing with their lives, Duncan apparently got a job as an anchor for the local news, his recent story being an interview with the Kings of RHye, Simon mentions he met the lead singer, Roger during a festival, surprised at how nice he was.
  94. 24. When Duncan goes to ask what Simon’s been doing, he slightly freezes up… oh man, if he tells his best friend he’s a Janitor at their old school, he’ll probably laugh his ass off! Hesitant, he says that he’s in a rock band himself… Duncan grinning at this, saying how cool that is, asking if they got any gigs lined up
  95. 25. Simon then mentions the gig at the Dead Duck inn, they’re going to be the last band to preform there, and asks if he’ll consider going to it. Duncan does say that he might be working late, but He’ll see if he can stop by for his act at least!
  96. 26. With that, the two friends part ways for now. Although the pay is pretty decent, Simon already regrets his decision, as he slowly makes his way back home.
  97. 27. As he comes in to the apartment, Barnebus is fast asleep on the couch. Smiling gently, he silently walks over to his bed, lying down, thinking about what his choices were… does he risk quitting his new job… or does he just give on the band… Maybe he can work it out, he’ll give it at least until the gig to decide if he wants to quit or not, after all, he did just get the job.
  98. 28. The first day on the job, Simon has to clean up vomit from the bathroom, a very VERY litter filled cafeteria (with students littering more subconsciously), and of course, a very filthy hallway. With each new mess, Simon gets more and more miserable.
  99. 29. After that grueling day, Simon makes it to band practice, though his bass playing is getting a bit sloppy.
  100. 30. With a deep sigh, Barnebus tells him maybe he should ditch the job, since it’s clearly affecting him negatively… Although Simon states that he just can’t quit now, he hasn’t even gotten his first pay check yet! Simon promises the band that he can somehow make it work
  101. 31. A Week goes by, and it’s the day of the gig! Elizabeth, Quintell, and Barnebus wait in the garage for Simon, but it seems he is late, due to a huge science lab explosion he has to clean up… Frustrated, Barnebus decides to go to the gig without him, much to Quintell and Elizabeths chagrin.
  102. 32. The trio arrives at the Inn, with the Manager greeting them, showing them to the backstage area, as they see two groups already there, one a mod rock trio called The Ace Mods, the other, a noise rock girl group called Charlies Devils. It seems the drummer of the Devils recognizes Elizabeth and rushes over to hug her tight, the two laughing and talking about they didn’t expect to see each other there!
  103. 33. Elizabeth then goes to introduce the band, while stating that they have a bassist, but he might be a little bit late. The other girl (Suzie) then goes to introduce the ladies in her band. Barenbus makes a smart alec comment about the Guitarists (Belinda) resemblance to Joan Jett, Belinda just rolling her eyes, retorting back with “Wow, Syd Barrett’s brother”. The two then start arguing over who’d beat who in a guitar duel, when the guitarist of the Ace Mods (Peter) yells at em to keep quiet, as he is trying to tune his guitar
  104. 34. Barnebus then goes up to Peter, admiring his guitar model (a Gibson SG Special), Peter smiles and compliments his Rickenbacker, saying how he appreciates a man who likes a bit of jangle in their axe. Then a string snaps on Peter’s guitar, causing him to get a bit upset, buuuut Barnebus offers him some of his strings, Peter gladly taking it and thanking him.
  105. 35. As the members of each group chat amongst themselves, The manager calls out for the Mods to go out first. Peter waving off to Barnebus and the others, Elizabeth calling out to “Break a leg out there!”
  106. 36. Meanwhile, Simon is rushing to the apartment, quickly getting changed into his regular clothing and grabbing his equipment. With an agitated grunt, he realizes that Barnebus might have left for the gig without him!
  107. 37. Quickly grabbing his phone, he then texts Duncan, asking if he is off work soon! Duncan replies with a yes, asking Simon why? Simon quickly asks if he could take him over to the Dead Duck Inn, for his gig! Duncan says that might have to go home and change, but he’ll get him there!
  108. 38. After waiting for what seemed like hours, Duncan arrives at the apartment, picking up Simon! Buuuut not before they hit some traffic, much to the annoyance of Simon.
  109. 39. Back at the Inn, the mods finish their set, coming back into the backstage room with the bands applauding their show! Quintell applauding the drummer (Syd)’s skills, wondering if he was influenced by Keith Moon, to which he replies yea, but not by how he acts in public, to which Suzie speaks about how he influenced her both in playing and in personality. While Elizabeth and Ronette chat about how it can get pretty boring being the only female in their respective groups, but they both agree that they hold down their position in the band well!
  110. 40. Now it’s time for the Devils to go on stage, and everyone of course wishes em luck! Barnebus getting more and more upset, thinking Simon’s abandoned them… when Simon bursts through the door, sweating hard, Barnebus rushing over to give him a big hug, saying how he was sorry for leaving him, and of course Simon apologizes for being late. Barnebus then goes to introduce Simon to the other band, and the band on stage, that’s when Simon catches a look of their lead singer (Shelly), awestruck by her stage presence…
  111. 41. After the Devils are finished with their set, everyone applauds them, and a slightly scared Simon goes up to Shelly, trying to get the nerve to strike up a conversation, nervous she might be rude to him… in which she smiles happily, and introduces herself pleasantly. The two start to chat about their bands, and how they hope to achieve some success!
  112. 42. After a while of chatting, it’s finally time for the Ladders to go up, everyone of course wishing em all the best of luck on the stage, with Belinda winking over at Barenbus, and him returning the wink, and a playful middle finger. Shelly asks if Belinda and him are becoming friends or rivals, to which Belinda says “Both”
  113. 43. As the band gets on stage, they see the crowd look upon em with, waiting to see what the band had to offer. Simon gets a bit nervous, hoping the gig won’t be like the one with the Durango 95… But Barnebus clears his throat, starting the song.
  114. 44. Simon expects the performance to be pretty bad but… somehow, everything goes right for em, well, maybe a few flubs here and there, but the audience seems to enjoy the music so far. And as the song ends, the band gets a standing ovation! Duncan then comes from behind, giving Simon a tight hug, complimenting him on his band!!
  115. 45. As the ladders head on back stage, they are greeted by the other bands with a round of applause and group hugs! Everyone seemed like they enjoy each other’s music, and thus, they decide to form a little pact together, to always go see the others band whenever they can!
  116.
  117. Part 4 – “The Audtion”
  118. 1. A few weeks after the gig, Simon comes on, covered in various bits of food and junk all over his clothes, with a deep sigh, he makes his way to the couch, contemplating whether or not he should quit at this point
  119. 2. Then comes in Barnebus arguing with Stacey over the phone, apparently she thinks he’s spending way more time with his band than with her, and he is trying to convince her that he’ll find time for the two! Apparently she is convinced... for now anyways. With a deep sigh, Barnebus joins Simon on the couch.
  120. 3. The two exchange their troubles, Simon apparently having to clean up a huge food fight the students had at the High School, while Barnebus grumbles about Stacey not understanding that the band lifestyle takes a lot of time to focus on.
  121. 4. Just then Barnebus gets a text from his new friend Peter, asking if he’d be down with joining him for a drink! Simon would go but… he’ll need a shower, and… a little bit of rest from the rough day today.
  122. 5. With a shrug, Barnebus sets off to the Bar up by where the Record shop used to be, greeting Peter hanging around his motor-scooter, Barnebus admiring it for a bit
  123. 6. The two head on in, talking about what was new since they last saw each other, with Barnebus explaining how the band used their gig money for their lives, Liz buying a Hammond organ with her cut, Quintell using his for groceries, while he and Simon used theirs to pay off the rent. The Ace Mods on the other hand tried to audition for this big wig manager Rodney Lightfoot, and… sadly rejected him for the band being “Too old fashioned”.
  124. 7. Barnebus does his best to feel sympathy, but did have to ask if he thinks the Starry Ladders have a chance at scoring a deal with Rodney, Peter giving a hard maybe, though he might not dig the band’s noisey ascetics, but he does suggest writing a cheesy love song, as he made a career of that before Rodney even became a manager. With a laugh, Barnebus says he’ll consider it
  125. 8. Just then, the pair start to smell some sort of perfume in the air, and a voice tells Barnebus not to even bother auditioning… that fucker, Roger King.
  126. 9. Barnebus whispers to Peter to hold him back, since he might attack Roger, the king bitch continues on to talk about how Rodney probably won’t go for a drunken douchebag, to which Barnebus scoffs, mentioning how dumb Roger was for thinking he’d go for some shitty glam metal group
  127. 10. Holding back a bit of rage, Roger asks if Barnebus even has a group, to which Barenbus says he does, and it’s better than his, with Peter backing him up. Roger of course doubts how good Barnebus band is, though he does feel confident that the Kings of Rhye could easily beat em at auditioning for Rodney
  128. 11. The very next day at Quintells garage, Barnebus begins the days practice by letting everyone know that yesterday, Roger challenged him and his band to audition for Rodney Lightfoot, to prove which band was better. With a deep sigh, Liz asks Barns why he’d do such a dumb thing like that, Simon snarkily saying to engage in a pissing contest with his former band. With a hard glare at the two, Barnebus continues on, saying that they must write a cheesy love song to win over his attention, so he asks Simon (since he seems to be into that crap) if he has one of those.
  129. 12. With deep hesitation, Simon mentions that he has… kind of been writing something like that, and asks Barnebus if he could make a demo of it for next time. Banebus thinks it over for a bit, but agrees.
  130. 13. A few hours after band practice, Simon sets up a little mini recording studio in the bathroom, feeling slightly nervous about how the band will like this song.
  131. 14. He slowly begins to play some chords… thinking about how he could make this song into a love song… But fuck, it is hard to write lyrics.
  132. 15. With a deep sigh, he asks Barnebus to come in to the bathroom with him, Barnebus making a comment about “Not wanting to watch him go to the bathroom”, with a deep sigh, he asks him if he could help out with his song
  133. 16. Simon starts to play his song, humming out where the Verses would go and what not. So far Barnebus seems to enjoy it, asking what he would need help with. Simon asks him if he could do the lyrics for him…
  134. 17. Barnebus is reluctant at first but… agrees to, just because he’d hate to see his friend struggle.
  135. 18. The two slowly start fleshing the song out, the two slowly having fun with writing the song.
  136. 19. After they play back what they had made, they realized… maybe they should start writing some more songs together, kinda like John Lennon and Paul McCartney before them! And so begins the Swain/Rogers songwriting team!
  137. 20. The two present the demo to Liz and Quintell, the two of em thinking the song defiantly has something going for it, but they’re thinking maybe they could add a little bit of something to the song.
  138. 21. As the band does a run through of “My Ghoul Faced Woman”, Liz starts playing something dreamy on her new Hammond organ, to the liking of Barnebus, with Quintell replying with a slightly tribal beat, the song now taking form!
  139. 22. Throughout the week, the band spend time in the garage, tweeking the song, improving it to both Simon and Barnebus liking until… they feel confident about it being presentable!
  140. 23. A few days later, the band arrive at the Bycicle Rider building in Philadelphia, ready to audition for Rodney!
  141. 24. They make their way into his office, seeing various bands there all waiting… including the Kings of Rhye (Now called Finger Prince), Roger looking to see Simon, excitedly giving him a hug!
  142. 25. The two chat for a bit, much to Barnebus’ anger, finally interrupting them, letting Roger know that he hasn’t forgotten their little conversation from before, and how he’s going to feel satisfied kicking their ass at getting Rodney as a manger! Roger scoffs him off of course, and goes back to his band mates.
  143. 26. Hours pass, various bands walk out of his office, dejected, finally it’s their turn! The band excited make their way in, with Rodney asking em what kind of music they perform, and all that. As the band sets up, Quintell does the talking, explaining about the music and what not and “How it doesn’t really need a label”. Clearly Rodney had heard this before, but allows them to play at least one song.
  144. 27. With that, the Band starts off their song, giving a pretty good performance but… Rodney dosen’t seem to like it. After they finish, Rodney clears his throat, talking about how uncommercial it sounded, and how it probably wouldn’t go anywhere in today’s market.
  145. 28. And with that, he rejects them, must to Barnebus’ surprise and slight anger, he tries to convince him otherwise, but… it’s too late, he had already made up his mind.
  146. 29. The band leaves, dejected, much to the smugness of Roger as his band comes in to audition.
  147. 30. As they go to their van, Barnebus hears a popping sound… From the window, he sees his old band, Roger, and Rodney, pouring a glass of champaign… Barnebus had lost, Fingerprince was now managed by Rodney.
  148. 31. Barnebus then gets a call from Stacey, apparently Barnebus had miss a date and… now it’s over between them. With a deep sigh, Barnebus nearly throws another anger fit, but… He’s too filled with disappointment to even get mad at this point. So he just makes his way into the van, and drives off, trying to process what a shitty day it has been.

  151. Part 5 – “A Day in the Life of an Angry Scottish Manager”
  152. 1. We change focus for this part to an older man, curled in his bed, the alarm clock blaring out, slamming his fist on the snooze button. This man is Mortimer Tucker (Moe for short), a band manager, and a very angry one at that.
  153. 2. He slowly makes his way downstairs, to his wife, Helga, who is just got done making breakfast for the two, Haggis and eggs, with a slight grimace, he goes to sit down at the table, digging into his meal.
  154. 3. The news is on the other room, and he hears word that Finger Prince have become a huge overnight success! With a slight groan, he sarcastically praises them for reviving the “worst part of the 80s”, then he sees that an interviewer is talking to their manager, Rodney Lightfoot, talking about how he found the group at a festival, and he saw huge potential in em, so after the gig, he went backstage and offered them contracts. This angers Moe, and he reaches for the clicker, shutting the TV off, with a sigh.
  155. 4. Afterwards, he makes his way into his car, internally dreading about how the day’s going to go, knowing his luck.
  156. 5. Getting stuck in traffic, his anger continues to rise higher and higher, tempting him to tailgate this one gun shy driver, who is holding him up, cursing em out as the radio picks up an interview with Rodney further infuriating him!
  157. 6. Finally, after a heart attack inducing drive, he arrives at the office block where his record label, Bicycle Rider Records, is located! Though it sits above an art collective’s studio, and a lawyer’s office. As he enters, he spots the art collectives lead artist, Amy Darling getting coffee with her latest muse, a lanky actor by the name of Barry Farrow.
  158. 7. He shoves away Barry, asking Amy if she had any art work that could be potential album covers for his artist, Bryon Stargaze. This causes her to sweat a bit, clearing her throat, as one of her “mouthpieces” Andrea Kimbleton speaks up, letting him know that now might not be a good time, as she’s got an exhibition happening in the coming weeks, and she’s rather focused on that.
  159. 8. With a frustrated sigh, Moe nods, making his way up to the second floor, the first thing he sees in his office space is his secretary of equal temperament, Jamie Gilmour, engaged in a screaming match with someone on the phone, telling them to go “jump into a shallow pool off of a 20 ft diving board” With another sigh, Moe asks who he was just talking to, apparently it was someone from that scumbag magazine “Music Weekly” asking for an interview about being “The worst manager in the business” to which he commends Jamie for holding his own.
  160. 9. As he makes his way into his office, Jamie lets him know he has two meetings today, one with Bryon Stargaze about a dispute about his album, and the manager of Red Maple records, Tuchman Marsh, both meetings seemingly annoys Moe, hoping to have an easy day.
  161. 10. Enters in Bryon, clearly angry at Moe, demanding to know why his last album “Stargazing” barley sold any units! With a deep sigh, Moe reasons that maybe that it wasn’t very commercial, and the public wasn’t ready for it
  162. 11. The two bicker about how the singles sold way better than the actual album, and it’s here that Moe angrily yells that it’s because of his stunt during an interview, talking about he basically alienated part of his audience about a very controversial subject matter, and also his music was shit!
  163. 12. With this, an angry Byron then dumps him, saying he’ll go somewhere else for someone that’ll back him up better! Moe sarcastically suggest he goes to Sterling Music (Or something else if Brad don’t give me permission LMAO).
  164. 13. Hours pass, and in comes his “young grasshopper” Tuchman Marsh, who appears to be very excited about something!
  165. 14. 15. With an eyebrow raised, Moe sarcastically asks if he’s finally found that special someone in his life, though it’s something better! Tuchman’s apparently found a band he is considering representing, a mod rock outfit called “The Ace Mods!” and he wants Moe to come with him!
  166. 15. With a frustrated sigh, Moe goes to say that he’d rather go swimming in a septic tank than check out some shitty local band, when he suddenly gets a phone call from his wife, reminding him that her book club is tonight. Upset with this news, he reluctantly agrees to come check them out, to see if they’re even worth managing.
  167. 16. With a happy smile, Tuchman hands Moe a flyer for the gig they’re playing at: Hoagie’s Pup, at 8pm, with three other acts playing as well, one Charlie’s Devils, the other The Starry Ladders!
  168. 17. After the plans are set, another few hours pass, 7pm, the two close up the office early, Jamie’s plans being to have a night in with his new girlfriend, maybe a snog. As the two go to their cars, Moe gets a phone call…. He answers it expecting his wife asking him to pick up milk but… it’s him… Rodney Lightfoot.
  169. 18. Moe angrily tells him to fuck off and stop calling him, but the smug snake fucker quickly interrupts, letting him know that he ought to thank him for bringing Byron over to his fold!
  170. 19. Agitated, Moe tells him off, letting him know that the only reason he’s in the powerful position he’s in right now is because Rodney screwed him out of his former songwriting partners royalties, songs that Rodney never even wrote a line for at all, and of course, it’s there that Rodney hangs up.
  171. 20. With a loud growl, he nearly goes to throw the phone onto the ground, buuut Jamie calms him down, reminding him about his breathing exercises… Calmer, Moe lets Jamie know that he’s going to find a way to knock that slimy fuck down a few pegs… he just doesn’t know how yet.
  172. 21. As he makes his way over to the Pub, a broken down van nearly cuts him off, causing him to finally pull over the car to the side… and have a near mental break down, screaming and yelling inside… before finally diving back to the pub, happy he finally got that out of his system.
  173. 22. As he arrives, Tuchman was waiting outside for him, happily embracing him, Moe feeling very uncomfortable. They enter and a familiar voice calls out Moe’s name. Oh god, Scummy Eddy, the drummer from Moe’s old band, and the sleeziest manager in the game.
  174. 23. Eddy approaches Moe with a big hug, welcoming him to the show! With a sigh, he asks if Tuchman and Eddy were behind this, they both admit they… kinda did talk about getting him out. With a deep sigh, while he is seething in rage internally that they did this, Moe says that he’ll stay only for The Ace Mods, to see if they’re good enough for Tuchman!
  175. 24. As the trio finds a seat, Eddy got very excited as he sees the band he’s managing, Charlie’s Devils, walking on stage! Eddy says he found them doing street performances, when the cops tried to shoo em away, in which he stepped in, telling the officer not to bother with his clients! Of course they were a bit peeved at him but… he offered to sign em on the spot, which… didn’t do much at first, but when he offered them full time pay, they took it! Moe rolling his eyes on how dumb that story was, proceeded to cover his ears when they started to perform.
  176. 25. During the performance, Suzy starts to get out some fireworks from behind her drum kick and start setting em off while they perform, much to Moe’s anger!
  177. 26. Afterwards, the manager shoos em off stage, with Eddy getting angry and rushing over to argue with the manager of the club! As the two bicker, Tuchman discusses things with Moe, talking about he is kinda nervous about managing a band. With a smile, Moe tells him to remember the things he taught Tuchman, do not take shit from anyone, don’t be afraid of putting your foot down and getting aggressive, and…. Soon come on The Starry Ladders, slowly beginning their performance, with a new song from Simon this time “My Ghoul Faced Love”. The sound blows away Moe as he is entranced with the bands performance, mainly how they use their instruments to create such strange yet… beautiful sounds.
  178. 27. Thirty minutes pass and the band is finished their performance, Moe blown away by the group, a wide grin on his face… Tuchman asks if he’s alright as Moe stands up, rushing back stage!
  179. 28. As the Ladders come out of the bath room, they discuss Simon’s job, and how he may have to quit soon, despite his decent pay, much to his dismay… and of course Moe scares the band as they enter the back stage room, Barnebus about to slam the headstock of his guitar into Moe’s profile, only to be stopped by Liz.
  180. 29. With a slight chuckle, Moe makes himself known to the band, and that he’s been looking for some talent, and that he was lucky enough to stumble into them! Of course, it is here where he proposes that he becomes their manager!
  181. 30. Quintell is the first to speak up, asking if he is the kind of manager that’ll end up screwing em in the end, to with Moe happily says he’s the kind that’ll make em stars through his blood sweat and tears. Barnebus of course is extatic! But of course Quintell and the others are a bit skeptical, saying that they’ll probably need time to think about it, much to Barne’s anger!
  182. 31. With a light chuckle, Moe hands the band some business cards, telling them to call him if they’ve decided on the proposal!
  183. 32. As he leaves, he hears Barnebus arguing about the idea with his band mates, telling that an opportunity like this only comes once in a life time, and that they’d be dumb to pass it off! With a deep sigh, Quintell pokes his head out, saying that they’re willing to give it a shot.
  184. 33. With a deep grin, Moe tells them to meet him at his office as soon as possible, to sign papers and junk! As Moe leaves for his car, he feels great about what happened, and feels like he’s found his way to get back at Rodney…
