What is All Nighter?

All Nighter is the FORM community's flagship event and series of compilation album releases. It's a 24 hour challenge, where musicians submit tracks they've made within the allotted 24 hour time limit. At the end, we collect all the tracks together into one big album and release it on stores to raise money for charity! There are no restrictions on what type/genre of music you make - most of our submissions are electronic, but feel free to make whatever you want!

What do you mean by "24 hours"?

We mean your track has to be started within the 24 hour period. That includes sound design, composing, whatever else. That's not to say you can't use samples produced before the start of All Nighter, but really consider what counts as being "started" within 24 hours. It's all in good fun!

Can I collaborate?

Yes! All Nighter is wholly a collaborative event, and we encourage reaching out to others in the server about working with them. We'll be opening up channels for feedback, collaboration, asset sharing and such. If you're stuck, ask for help.

Can I use unauthorized samples?

Nope, sorry. We'll be selling this, and we aren't able to distribute any work to stores that you don't own the full legal rights to. For alternatives, you can buy sample packs or download royalty free ones -- or record your own! Also, only original tracks are accepted for All Nighter - no remixes or covers.

When does the event take place?

All Nighter 4 starts on Saturday, February 22 at 10AM EST, and your deadline for submissions is 24 hours later - on Sunday, February 23rd at 10AM EST. If you plan to participate in All Nighter, make sure you're available during this time.

How do I get on All Nighter?

In the past, we've required artists to submit in order to be chosen for a pre-selected lineup for the event. This time, we're doing things differently. Anyone is open to participate in All Nighter, as long as you follow the parameters of the challenge. On the day of the event we'll open a submission form so you can submit your work for potential inclusion on the final compilation album. Once submissions close, we will choose the final album lineup and notify you.

What happens to my work when I submit?

By submitting your work to be included on the All Nighter 4 compilation album, you'll have to agree to a preliminary contract that transfers the rights to your work to FORM so we can sell your work and give the profits to charity, should you be accepted onto the album. Within 48 hours after the event ends, you'll get an email letting you know if your track was accepted onto the album - if your track isn't accepted, you keep all rights to your work and can release it independently (though if you sell it we do suggest giving your revenue from sales to charity!) Accepted tracks will be normalized and released on the compilation album.

What if I don't get on the album?

You should be aware that in the past, we've had over 200 submissions to All Nighter, and we're expecting even more this time. The final compilation album will likely be 35-40 tracks in length, so the majority of submitted work will not be included on the final compilation. If your track isn't included and you choose to release it yourself, we'll include it on a playlist of unofficial releases completed during the All Nighter event!

I'm a visual artist - can I participate?

Yes, of course! Visual artists can participate in All Nighter by creating original cover art for the compilation album within 24 hours. We're only able to choose one final cover art for the album, so all other submissions won't be featured as the main album cover artwork. For previous All Nighter events, we’ve taken the rest of the artwork and bundled them with the album download as alternate cover art that people receive when they purchase the album through Bandcamp. We'll also post your cover art on the FORM Twitter! After the close of submissions, the cover art will be chosen by the FORM community - everyone can vote for their favorites and the most liked cover art wins.

What parameters do I have to follow with my cover art?

Cover art should be a square image at a resolution of at minimum 3000x3000, 300 DPI, RGB colour scheme. Cover art CANNOT include a website/social media/contact URL, pricing information, copyrighted images, a UPC barcode, a reference to a physical release (like “digital version”, or “CD disc”), any gore or pornographic imagery or the word “new”. All of these requirements are given to us by the stores we release to, so there's not much we can do about it - but it makes it a lot easier for us if you follow these requirements.

You can also make an alternate version of your cover art to include with album sales as a wallpaper! Our requirements for this aren’t strict (because Bandcamp’s aren’t), but we’d recommend keeping your resolution to 3840 × 2160 (4K), 2560x1440 (standard), or 2560x1080 (ultrawide).

Can I livestream my work during All Nighter?

Yes! If you want to stream on the official FORM Twitch channel during the event, our official stream is managed by @emta - you can sign up now using the form in #announcements! Feel free to livestream from your own channel during the event as well.

What's the charity for All Nighter 4?

We're donating proceeds from All Nighter 4 to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy's Global Recovery Fund. The CDP is a nonprofit organization that directs disaster recovery funds to the areas they are needed most. This means buying All Nighter will help not only to recover from the bushfires in Australia, but to support mid- and long-term recovery operations from other past and future natural disasters.
