  1. One dark summer night i was bored. So extremely bored.
  2. I looked in my steam library and found more then a thousand games, but not a single one i felt like playing...
  3.
  4. On night's like these there is this one dark and vile place i like to visit: The Half-Life 2 ModDB page
  5.
  6. This mysterious place is home of many dead hopes and dreams but also a breeding nest for fantastic projects, some which became full games on steam.
  7.
  8. While i was browsing in the huge list of mods, something weird caught my eye
  9. In between all these beatifull thumbnails was this brown one, it was horribly designed had text on it i could barely read.
  10. The short discription spoke of a kingdom in chaos called Arngor. Great, i thought: A Medieval RPG Half-Life 2 Mod.
  11.
  12. But what i found inside was something i never expected.
  13.
  14. I was greeted be another horrible designed image, that read:
  15. Start your journey in the Capital Outskirts, help the locals. Gain entry into Arngor!
  16. Mercenaries have infiltrated parts of the island, locals have been disappearing...
  17.
  18. This instantly reminded me of the 2006 game Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
  19. A game also in the source engine, where you could kick enemies and do magic and the game had physics...
  20. Basicly it was a really good Action RPG with all the good stuff from Half Life 2
  21.
  22. I scrolled down and i couldn't believe what i was reading
  23. It had a Group system, a dungeon system, a social system, a quest system, all of the systems you would ever want.
  24.
  25. this was the point i got hype.
  26. Was this a COOP RPG? Was it an MMO? I had to know!
  27.
  28. I quickly scrolled down further and what i saw was amazing.
  29. GIF's showing off MMO like menu's and dungeons
  30.
  31. I was stunned, a full MMO in the vain of Dark Messiah?
  32.
  33. I couldn't believe that i never heard of this, I rushed to youtube to find some gameplay but to my surprise i couldn't find anything
  34. Did i find a gem no one ever heard about?
  35.
  36. I headed to the website "infestus-game.com"
  37.
  38. Instanly i was greeted by a equality horrible designed website showing of more gameplay screenshots and a big DOWNLOAD NOW button.
  39. On the download page i was told that it was in closed beta right now and i could request a key.
  40.
  41. I was amazed that i was gonna get a key, i suspected this to be some horrible mod but maybe i was wrong?
  42.
  43. After booting up the game i got to a fimiliar looking title screen
  44. I opened the realm list and found 1 world being hosted, with nobody playing
  45.
  46. I was afraid i downloaded some dead old mod, that still had weird russian boomers hosting servers
  47.
  48. Nonetheless i connected to the server and was met with the fimiliar source server messages
  49.
  50. (black desert footage)It loaded to the most robust character creation screen i had ever seen.
  51. So many options i couldn't believe this was a mod made by a few people. Oh hold on that's black desert online footage
  52.
  53. Yes this is the correct one...
  54.
  55. Yes this is the character creation screen..
  56. 1 peasant looking model with no options... i guess it's still closed beta...
  57. So i took my standard peasant and headed into the World of Arngor.
  58.
  59. The beauty that lied behind the loading screen was amazing
  60. I started lauging instantly. It looks even worse then i could ever imagined.
  61.
  62. Horrible models, akward idle animations and some aged textures all mixed with a fine drab colour pallet
  63. I ran a bit further and abolutely lost it when i saw the first wolf, they looked like they were designed by a 5 year old who had 30 minutes in Blender.
  64. I mean even the wolves in 2004 World of Warcraft looked better then this 2019 game!
  65.
  66. I engaged in combat and it was horrendous. It felt even worse then an autistic GMod melee battle
  67. It was like an autistic GMod melee battle against the horrible HL2 AI.
  68. The combat wasn't more than exploiting strafe so your enemy can't hit you.
  69. This is REALLY effective against wolves sinds it seems like they are using tank controls.
  70.
  71. After some nice wolf slaughter headed into the village.
  72. You hear that? The little pauze in the 10 second music loop?
  73. Wow. Most people would have given up by now, but something magical happend.
  74.
  75. I played Infestus for 8 hours straight
  76.
  77. (eurobeat training montage)
  78.
  79. Before i knew it i was completely geared out, wolves were my bitch, i was doing 5 man raids completely solo and i finished pretty much all content. This was the most fun i had in an MMO in a while.
  80.
  81. There was something very cosy about Infestus. The outdated graphics en drab colours made it feel like i was playing some old beloved mmo that recently got revived. The community also helps to give that feeling, while recording this footage only 1 guy was playing and the most people i have seen online was 5. This way everybody starts to know each other and friendschips start being made. This almost feels like you are playing like Runescape Classic in 2019.
  82.
  83. Weirdly the combat feels straight out of runescape aswell but in a different way, if you know what i mean. In runescape you have something called "Safespotting". This means trapping an enemy behind a fence or rock so you are safe from its attacks, and then you can perfectly attack him with a range attack. Infestus has a strategy like this aswell. Or you can stand on an object and use your bow, or you hold S and Mouse 1.
  84.
  85. Does this mean the combat is good? Not really, this strategy is pretty much the meta for any kind of PVM. Making Magic and melee feel a bit useless. They can pack a bigger punch, but when you are being followed by a horde of standard-Unity-asset-looking-skeletons there is no way if you run in there with a melee weapon. Magic also seems te be a little bit useless, even with a build with all skill points in intellegnce and good magic gear the damage seems way to random. Sometimes i will hit a 150, othertimes i will hit a 85. While using range will give a nice constant 49 damage and you can shoot about 3 arrows in the time it takes to charge a spell. There is an end game spell you can get, that does AOE damage for a couple seconds. This spell can be really usefull when killing a large about of mobs like when you are solo in a raid. Now i did hear that the next update will nerf bows so this might be outdated information by the time you are seeing this.
  86.
  87. But you cant use a bow from the start. the first one unlocks at level 5 and costs 100 Gold. That gold will be gotten from the first few quests you wil do. While doing these you wil instantly notice how hard the world of Armgor is. Walking into the first zone and attacking the wrong wolf will get you killed. Also as soon as you cross this bridge you will see a "Smuggler Lite". You instinctively run up to him and strafe him like a boss, except that that doesnt work on these guys. These guys don't care how much you strafe, and this makes you change your moves and try new strategies. It's autistic but the good kind of autistic.
  88.
  89. After you get the combat down it's time for The Catacombs. This is Infestus' only raid and is unlocked at level 8. This raid is your standard mmo raid affair. A couple of rooms filled with enemies and 3 bosses along the way. There is a timer onscreen that starts when you enter the first room. You get 13 minutes to defeat the all the bosses. If you do it within the timelimit you get a reward chest with currently the best items in the game. I have only gotten theshadow spell scroll. Twice. The raid really isnt that hard and could be easily done with a bow and running circles around the first room. That's how I solo'd the raid at level 9.
  90.
  91. It also completely lacks any kind of PVP. It would really love to see a PVP zone like the wilderness in runescape. A place where player could attack each other and you drop the gear you are wearing if you die. It could we super tense when you are crossing the pvp zone and suddenly an arrow just misses you.
  92. You start running (something the game also misses and is a a little bit frustrating) and suddenly you get hit with a slow spell. I could be so fun, but the combat needs some patching before something like this can be implemented.
  93.
  94. Ok enough combat. Let's talk quests. they are not good. Most involve you doing X or killing Y. I feel like they mostly serve to make the grind easier.
  95. But you sometimes have this problem where the next quests unlock on your next level up, but you ran out of quests to do. So prepare for some wolf grinding.
  96.
  97. Quests also give you points towards certain factions. this doesn't do anything yet. I know, exciting. The menu's also could use some polish. The look blurry on higher resolution. It does have a nice stats screen that shows all the info you need for combat. There is also a User list which shows your friends, ignored and current online players. The icons also look very fimiliar... Quest log is also your standard affair showing a description and the objectives.
  98.
  99. And that's pretty much all that Infestus has to offer at the moment. It's not much but it feels as a bitesize mmo that has some fun but extremely flawed action combat. I think with some patches, some artists and some time Infestus might become something beautiful. Im certainly grinding my character to level 20 which is the level cap at the moment.
