  1. My father was an Eagle Scout, and his father was an Eagle Scout, so regardless of whether or not I enjoyed scouting, it was going to be a part of my childhood. Luckily, I loved it every bit as much as they did. I loved the annual summer trips to Resica Falls Scout Reservation. I loved the two week hiking trek at Philmont Scout Ranch, in New Mexico. I loved that Boy Scouts taught me how to survive in the wild. But more importantly, I loved that Boy Scouts is not just about developing outdoor skills, it is about developing people. I loved that at every meeting, I was reminded to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. I loved that every week I interacted with dozens of people who led their lives by these principles. And I love that Scouts taught me to live by them, too.
