Folk Race

The argument that race doesnt exist or isnt a biological reality is self-evidently silly. One doesnt even need to go into technical details. Even if the argument was granted, the practical aftermath is nill since no better categorization scheme exists which isnt basically just race by another name. It only exists to, and is only employed for this purpose, stygmy a conversation about race someone doesnt want to happen

Anyway, the statement "race isnt a biological reality" doesnt even make sense without qualification. Taken on its own it clearly suggests the idea that race does not describe anything biological. While Folk Races are indeed socially constructed as categories always are, they clearly describe something. Black people and White people clearly exist with a large part of their distinctiveness being due to genetic factors based on developing in geopgraphic separation to one another in different environments with different demands.

So of course comes the qualifier: it describes real things but is an arbitrary category scheme. So is it? Yes, but not sunstantially moreso than other biological categories and only some of the time. To elaborate on the latter point, does the abitrary nature of race actually matter when discussing distinctions between populations with regard to any variable or trait? Sometimes. But usually, for what people almost always talk about race regarding, no. Not all Africans are good at sprinting, only certain ones are...but pretty much all African subpopulations have similar IQs in an equal environment.
