  1. How does Warp Displacement work?
  2. Warp Displacement is a complex glitch made of multiple components: Menu Storage, Teleport Anywhere and Free Teleport.
  3.
  4. > Menu Storage: open a menu (the pause menu or the ability tree), activate a textbox by clicking on something (the experience wheel in the ability tree or any of the icons in the pause menu), then press Jump and Escape (Attack and Escape works as well) on the same frame, effectively proceeding and quitting at the same time, which keeps the menu open but gives you control of the character.
  5.
  6. > Teleport Anywhere: while having Menu Storage (thus being in control of Ori while the menu is on screen), opening the teleport map from a spirit well will close the menu and open the teleport map, while still retaining control of Ori, making it possible to move around and play the game while the teleport map is on screen: this allows the player to leave the spirit well and teleport to any desired spirit well from anywhere in the map, hence the name of the glitch.
  7.
  8. > Free Teleport: just like most games, Ori often takes away control on the character and gives it back for cutscenes, death respawns, teleport animations and such. Normally, the player is unable to control Ori while a 10s teleport animation is happening after selecting the target of a warp between spirit wells, but if Ori dies before the animation starts and respawn during the input lock, the player will have control. Because of that, it is possible to perform Teleport Anywhere, leave the spirit well with the teleport map on screen, die and immediately start a teleport: Ori will respawn during the animation and regain control, making the player able to control ori and play during teleport animations.

  10. > Warp Displacement: we don't have a perfect understanding of this last part, but here's how we think of it: whenever you teleport, the game traces a line that goes from Ori's current position to the target spirit well, and if Ori happens to be tilting on a physics-based platform (any platform that bobs, swings and in general interacts with other objects with physics), the game will try to compensate that tilt but end up overcompensating it, therefore tilting the line at a similar angle but opposite relative to what the intended path would be.
  11.
  12. Here's an image that shows intended path (bottom) and warp displacement (top) for the warp at the end of the Any% (Normal) category: https://i.imgur.com/BtvUR1q.png
  13. The sequence of events for that specific trick is:
  14. - Activate a simple physics glitch in the Ginso Tree called "need a lift" that makes the swinging platforms move in a direction forever, then save to make sure the platform will be moving upon death and respawn;
  15. - Reach the Thornfelt Swamp spirit well and use it to gain Teleport Anywhere, die and immediately start a teleport to the Hollow Grove spirit well;
  16. - Respawn by the glitched platform in Ginso while the game is preparing to teleport you to the Hollow Grove;
  17. - Gain Menu Storage in the ability tree at the soul link;
  18. - Jump on the glitched platform and set yourself up at a good angle so the game warps you to the wrong location, which as a result of this specific tilt conveniently lands at the end of the game;
  19. - Wait for a cutscene to start and activate any upgrade in the ability tree to automatically save the game, reload from the menu and skip the cutscene.
  20.
  21. I know it's a bit convoluted, but hope this helps!
