  1.
  2.
  3. "No... Please.. Please don't OHGODN-" Blood was everywhere. His scream never leaves my ears to this day. Hearing his pleas end with a thud and a squish, still turns my stomach around like a vortex. He just struck my friend with his baseball bat over the head.
  4.
  5. "This what you get for bein' a snitch, puto." He sounded so calm, he didn't even have his mask on. "This what Salvator Voltale do." He held his baseball bat again, the look on my friends face - I couldn't even make out his eyes with the amount of blood pouring down on his face, but I knew exactly what he felt. Horror.
  6.
  7. Squish. Another swing. I could see chunks of Jeremy's head come out with the bat's base. That was bone and is that-
  8.
  9. "Oh My God. Y-... You split his head open, Sal! What the hell is wrong with you?!" I knew this one was a rookie, he took his mask off. Visibly shaken up by what his partner had done, and the other two came back into the room after tearing up the apartment. They looked down at Jeremy. They said nothing. I could tell they didn't even care what happened to him.
  10.
  11. Gagging on his blood, Jeremy looked my way. "Pluh.. L... L... Go..." Lifting his arm up to point at me, tied up and pressed against the ground with shock, seemed like the hardest thing he'd ever done. I couldn't make up with he wanted to say, but I could feel it - even in his final moments, my best friend wanted to look out for me, even though I could see his brain sticking out where the bats struck.
  12.
  13. Salvator pushed the bat against the wound and pressed down; no reaction. His arm had already hit the ground, motionless. His chest wasn't rising anymore. Gone.
  14.
  15. Sirens blared, probably the only reason why I still draw breath to this day. I remember a bat to the head, followed by laughter, and then it was lights out.
  16.
  17.
  18. "They killed your friend." His voice, rough as sand paper.
  19.
  20. I opened my eyes, I wasn't at Jeremy's apartment. As a matter of fact, I didn't know where I was. But nothing felt the same. I looked around, and the man who I assume was speaking to me, sitting there, on a rock. After further inspection, I was in a cave of sorts next to a small river, going into it's endless depths, waters a black abyss.
  21.
  22. "Where am I?" I asked, the old man tugged on his pipe and exhaled, he looked at me like an unfortunate bastard, I could sense he felt bad for me, I knew that look all too well. I've come to experience it a lot.
  23.
  24. "You don't belong here- how did you end up here?" He suddenly perked up, his look of empathy turned puzzled, and then to fear; as if me being there was the worst thing that could happen. "This can not be- nonono-.." He sized me up again. "There must be a mistake.." And that's when the old coon stopped making a lick of sense.
  25.
  26. I got to my feet and slowly approached him. "I'm not going to repeat myself. Tell me, what is this place?! Better yet! Who the fuck are you?!" Clearly, silence was not my thing, mixed with confusion I was getting frightened, by the way he looked at me and how fishy the entire place was.
  27.
  28. "You don't see them?" He said, looking around, especially focusing on the river bank.
  29.
  30. "See what?"
  31.
  32. "The ferries! They're supposed to lead you across, but they don't even see you!" He looked worried, like something bad was about to happen, and to be honest, I felt the same.
  33.
  34. Walking to the river banks, attempting to gaze into whatever it was flowing there - it sounded like water, but it definitely smelled weird, like nothing I'd smelled before. If there was anyway to describe it, the best would be death. It reeked of lost hope, giving up and to be fair? Among those emotions there was a slight sense of peacefulness, as if everything was over - done, gone.
  35.
  36. In a sense, that feeling it merely drove me closer, seductive in it's own accord. Being in it's presence, it called out to me - demanding I let go and just... Relax. To come closer and bathe in the lost hopes.
  37.
  38. "Don't be an idiot." A hand lied on my shoulder. "It's not your time yet." I turned around to see who it is-
  39.
  40. "Jeremy?" I was shocked, to tell you the truth - I never expected to see him whole again, at least, his skull in one piece.. "But you- I saw you-.."
  41.
  42. "Where do you think you are?"
  43.
  44. "... Hell?"
  45.
  46. He stared at me for a moment and smiled, a kind hearted smile that I'd always seen - the type that shares warmth, but this time it only shared the cold he felt. "No Samuel, not yet. You were sent here for a reason - I think you know what you were sent here for." He placed a hand on my shoulder again, before taking me into his arms. "You're out of time-.."
  47.
  48. I froze there, I was if not more confused than I was when I woke up here. "... What was I sent here for, what do you mean I'm out of time, Jer? What do you mean it's not my time yet? You aren't making a lick of sense!" I held him by the collar. "I watched you die and... And... I wish I was in your stead - you were always the better person than I can ever be."
  49.
  50. "You're wrong, Sam. Now go on - live. It's not too late for you to turn back-" The ground cracked, and I could feel myself slipping down between the rocks. "You are meant for greatness now."
  51.
  52. "Open your eyes."
