  1. The great thing about Linux, and this is largely why it got so popular in the first place, is its support from the hardware industry.
  2.
  3. What's not so great, however, is that what ought to have been one complete OS with one competent leadership and one coherent brand, is instead split into thousands of distributions with varying degrees of quality, with the overwhelming majority all including unnecessary and overly complicated stuff by default, such as systemd, bash, OpenSSL, or iptables/nftables.
  4.
  5. > Choose [OpenBSD](https://openbsd.org/) for your Unix needs. OpenBSD -- the world's simplest and most secure Unix-like OS. Creator of the world's simplest and most secure webserver [httpd](https://man.openbsd.org/httpd.conf)/TLS & crypto stack [LibreSSL](https://libressl.org/)/SSH implementation [OpenSSH](https://openssh.org/)/firewall [pf](https://www.openbsd.org/faq/pf/)/mail server [OpenSMTPD](https://opensmtpd.org/) and much, much more. OpenBSD -- the cleanest kernel, the cleanest userland and the cleanest configuration syntax.

  9. OpenBSD:
  10. - For the same reason a tidy house is more pleasant to live in than a messy one
  11. - fewer lines with each line having more meaning and thus reducing the need for commenting
  12.
  13. Anything that is to be associated with OpenBSD has to pass through the same strict quality and security filter, hence you'll find much greater consistency across the board. And, like the Ruby programming language having adopted the mantra "programmer happiness", I feel OpenBSD should adopt "sysadmin happiness".
