  4. DrIE, won, https://crawl.kelbi.org/crawl/morgue/Flugkiller/morgue-Flugkiller-20191121-002635.txt
  5. HuFE, won, https://crawl.kelbi.org/crawl/morgue/Flugkiller/morgue-Flugkiller-20191121-161758.txt
  6. DECj, won, forgot to import the morgue from the end screen
  7. Also had some characters that I lost but I don't have morgues for them, most notably I did try NaFE
  8.
  9. ============
  10. |Fire Magic|
  11. ============
  12.
  13. Foxfire: NOTE: This is feedback based on an old version of Foxfire that was not LOS, although I did remove most of the
  14. irrelevant bits of it I think.
  15.
  16. Alright in open areas, very situational in corridors (mostly bad). Unreliable targeting can be a drawback,
  17. since damage focused on a single target can be a lot more valuable than if it was spread onto multiple targets.
  18. This is even more relevant when you consider new inner flame, and the fact that it can choose to hit plants/fungi.
  19. Since it's 2 instances of damage, it's more affected by AC than Flame Tongue (idk if this has been changed).
  20. It can be really good if you manage to use it in such a way that the enemy is forced to attack them rather than
  21. moving towards you.
  22. Being slow hurts a little bit, given how you might want to move sometimes instead of recasting it (because doing the
  23. latter would put the new ones in a bad place, in my experience at least).
  24. Overall, this spell feels a bit clunky, and maybe enough so that it would be better as a stronger spell but
  25. higher level instead.
  26.
  27. Conjure Flame: I sort of like this nerf overall (mostly because it's a nerf tbh).
  28. It noticeably hurts to be slow, since it will try to ignite AFTER you and the enemies have moved.
  29. I believe that old Conjure Flame isn't as affected by being slow, because, if you're discovering an enemy at a close
  30. range, then you are most likely in a corridor already (because of corners), meaning that you being slow or not
  31. is irrelevant since you can put it down right away. This argument, in general, applies to you having to deal with
  32. enemies faster than you, so it's also sometimes noticeable on races faster than Naga.
  33. You can't create a gap that doesn't exist already by putting it behind you and walking through it or whatever,
  34. but I didn't really use this in the first place so I don't care too much.
  35. Making walls of flame clouds in the open to block enemies is harder to pull off.
  36.
  37. Inner Flame: It's unclear to me whether this spell works correctly at low spellpower, because, every time I tried it,
  38. no flame clouds were released, or the enemy died, which made fire clouds from the explosion part of the spell.
  39.
  40. Starburst: Don't really have much to say about this spell. It feels balanced, I think, there are definitely drawbacks with
  41. not choosing your line of fire, and taking turns to repositioning enemies can be a relevant cost if they have
  42. ranged spells/attacks (which most actually dangerous enemies in the game do). It's not AS powerful as 8 bolts of
  43. fire might make you think, but it's definitely very good in prolonged/involuntary fights where you get surrounded.
  44. Sometimes Starburst fires anyway even when there are no valid targets in sight but you seem to be aware of this.
  45.
  46. General: NOTE: Again, this is based on playing with Foxfire before it was LOS.
  47.
  48. I think the starter book feels weaker now, even if Conjure Flame is still very useable. It's possible that I didn't
  49. make full use out of the spells either, so take that assessment with a pinch of salt.
  50. Overall, I did feel like I was considering my positioning more than before, at least, if I'm not trying to be
  51. "trivial optimal" by luring enemies as much as possible, etc., but even then there were a few annoying moments (that I
  52. otherwise wouldn't have had/that are unrelated to bugs).
  53. I think I like these changes more than I dislike them, at least.
  54.
  55. ===========
  56. |Ice Magic|
  57. ===========
  58.
  59. Hailstorm: It's hard to give relevant comments about this spell now, because I played with it before it got buffed.
  60. Since the damage felt too low for the spell to be useful almost ever, I didn't really try it too much as a result.
  61. Apart from that, the spell felt good to use, albeit a bit hard to get used to the range.
  62. I really do think that it should be balanced around "icy allies" being immune to it,
  63. given that trying to reposition them can be very awkward.
  64.
  65. General: Again, it's hard to say much because it essentially felt like playing with IE book but without throw frost and
  66. throw icicle (which just feels weaker), since I didn't feel compelled to use Hailstorm almost ever.
  67.
  68. ==============
  69. |Conjurations|
  70. ==============
  71.
  72. Searing Ray: Looks good, I assume that targeting an empty square to use it like old searing ray is a "bug".
  73.
  74. Dazzling Flash: I want to be able to flash near my prism without getting prompts. Feels a bit weird to have in the Conjurations book,
  75. especially considering that when you would use it, you probably would just want to use IMB instead,
  76. more on this spell below.
  77.
  78. IMB: Overall, I'm not too sure about how good/bad this spell is, but if I had to evaluate it, I would say it's balanced.
  79. In most cases, if I want to deal damage, I would much rather just put down a prism instead, and if I play cautiously,
  80. I don't really need to push away enemies (similar to force lance really).
  81. However it's very nice if you get marked/bad downstairs/shafted/teleported etc., or if you just make a mistake,
  82. and there are some nice plays you can do with it and prism, similar to force lance but with more potential,
  83. since you can get multiple enemies into a blast.
  84.
  85. Servitor: Didn't know where to otherwise put this. Not much to say, feels like a great buff to the spell (since amnesia etc.
  86. is a limited resource), although I only tried it with Orb of Destruction. While I might prefer having Iron Shot
  87. on it instead, I think that this is better than not being able to use some spells at all.
  88.
  89. General: This school feels pretty alright to me, and probably stronger than old Conjurer.
  90.
  91. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  92. As a last remark, I would like to say that, in every one of these cases (less so in Cj perhaps), I felt more compelled than before
  93. to pick up a launcher and use that to kite enemies that are range 7 (or at least too far away to hit with spells).
  94.
  95. I hope this feedback was useful. Thanks for the work you have done so far.
