  3. @hyperlink @Proxy Also, it's interesting because in France kids menus are actually the same thing as what the adults eat usually, but in smaller portions and the most basic things. It's actually weird to see the US version is so different

  6. @furkachi @fakemaxkeeble @hyperlink that actually is super interesting!!! Food culture in general fascinates me but I wanna see where and how this divergence arose

  9. @Proxy @furkachi @hyperlink in france from what i know there's a big emphasis in school lunch of teaching kids how to eat and enjoy french cuisine

  12. @Proxy @furkachi @hyperlink here's a nice little writeup from a parent who moved to france from vancouver https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/karen-le-billion-french-children-eat-anything
  13. Do French children eat everything?

  20. @fakemaxkeeble @Proxy @hyperlink Interesting! I gotta admit I grew up with mostly 1 course meals and dessert, though we did have a starter from time to time. As for the food, it actually baffles me that kids are not taught to sit at the table and have an actual meal time when they're young. Starting in Middle school we start having self-service-esque food (that's basically like US show cafeteria) and we basically spend most of the break there eating

  23. @fakemaxkeeble @Proxy @hyperlink As for food quality; I would say if wildly varies from place to place, but from the horror stories I've heard of british, american and canadian people before, it feels like the issues we are fighting for in France are luxury tbh. What's really cool though is that in the country side a certain number of school partner with local farms so the schools eat organic and local which is amazing imo

  26. @fakemaxkeeble @Proxy @hyperlink As for the trying new things, it really does depend on the kid. I know a whole lot of people that aren't picky, but then again I am surrounded with foodies and/or people that pay attention to what they eat (my roommate is one of the rare french ppl I know that is actually pretty picky on food). But kids are pretty picky too.

  28. (Also, side note: kids drink wine in France? Like, it's kind of a normal thing to have a bottom of wine glass on big occasions)

  31. @fakemaxkeeble @Proxy @hyperlink I guess it's hard somewhat hard for me to evaluate the differences because though I'm basically aware of how feeding happens in North America, I was raised in Fance so there are a bunch of things that seem so basic to me that it's weird to think it's not.

  33. Things like eating at the table, having water with your meal, trying to reduce snacking if you do it, stuff like that.
  34.
  35. Also the fact that french food is fat not sugary, so it's healthier

  38. @fakemaxkeeble @Proxy @hyperlink Okay that's the end of my exposé :p Do ask questions if you have any ^^
