sometimes i wish i was a cherry tree
with bounty hanging crimson from my boughs
they'd teem in thousands, each one full of life
like fish-eggs spawned beneath the heartless waves

their weight would make my limbs all ache and groan
i wouldn't mind a bit - this load would be
no burden, but a joyous thing to bear
a proud reminder that i was alive

with any luck, i'd spread a crop of seeds
my progeny would scatter far and wide
i couldn't nurture them, but only hope
that they grew tall and strong, and made me proud
