  1. 20:57] KriegsaffeNo9 (At the moment! I presume you'll be meeting up at the crime scene.)
  2. [20:58] Mortis slowly pulled out and hit the siren, which sounded more like a banshee howl than anything.
  3. [20:59] Mortis The vehicle roared to life, howling, the exhaust less a roar and more the sound of armageddon on four wheels. 'Thats Bastar, in the engine block... ugly son of a bitch."
  4. [21:01] Rex "So what, are you plannin' on drivin' a Herse next?"
  5. [21:01] KriegsaffeNo9 Traffic parts before you, 'cause nobody wants to hold up the car that sounds like it wants their children.
  6. [21:01] Mortis "There are about 1,800 individual parts in this car, Rex. There are over 600 bound demons and outsider entities keeping it together." He grinned as he swerved into traffic, taking out the radio. "This is car 56, I need the address on that homicide.
  7. [21:02] KriegsaffeNo9 "That's 2 Lexington Avenue in Gramercy Park--the hotel. It's lookin' pretty rough out there, hope you're ready for an all-nighter."
  8. [21:04] Rex (My phone's being odd, one moment)
  9. [21:05] Mortis "God damn it... Is Cyrus doing one of his speeches outside?"
  10. [21:06] Mortis drives there, texting the others to show up there when they can, perferably without starting any bullshit.
  11. [21:07] KriegsaffeNo9 "Might as well be..." The radio clicks off. It's a smooth drive, but Gramercy Park...
  12. [21:07] Rex pp
  13. [21:07] KriegsaffeNo9 Well, Gramercy Park didn't really make it out of the 70s intact, and attempts at gentrifying or fancying the place up haven't taken easily. It's settled into a sort of cold war between the well-to-do and the oft-violent weirdos.
  14. [21:09] KriegsaffeNo9 http://static.travel.usnews.com/images/hp/44/23328/Gramercy_Park_Hotel_usn_20.jpg A small retinue of CSI stand guard outside of the Park Hotel, including two power-armor cops with yellow-and-black-striped stunning electrolasers equipped and pointed, tentatively, at the concrete, a not-insubstantial crowd attempting to get close.
  15. [21:09] Mortis was fond of the place. it had this one constant. This one strip of hell he could walk and pretend he was back in his own time.
  16. [21:09] KriegsaffeNo9 This is the sight you fellows see upon arrival! Arcflash, Deienra, Hubris, Salamander, come in as you will.
  17. [21:09] Mortis parked, opening the door and moving towards who was there.
  18. [21:09] Hubris arrives promptly at the scene after receiving a text from Mortis. "So...what's the situation?"
  19. [21:10] Mortis "Homicide, dude got hit with an ANVIL, of all things." He said, looking over at the entrance. "We just got here..."
  20. [21:11] Hubris "Put out an APB on toons, I suppose. Anvils sounds like their MO. Anvils, and grand pianos."
  21. [21:11] Hubris "Or would that be considered racial profiling?"
  22. [21:11] Mortis "No, that would be racist." He snarked.
  23. [21:11] Salamander "An anvil." Sal adjusts her tie, "just when you think you're getting used to the Big Apple..."
  24. [21:12] |<-- Rex has left lunarnet.org (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
  25. [21:12] Mortis "Last thing I want to do is go through a sensitivity course again." He went to the officer guarding the front entrance. 'Mortis, PCU. Wheres the scene?"
  26. [21:12] KriegsaffeNo9 There are several gang members in the crowd--you can tell because they are at least partially in the requisite gang uniforms. Their reactions shift a bit at your approach, fellows and ladies--generally positive, at least, since you're best known for beating monster ass rather than hating on the little man.
  27. [21:13] KriegsaffeNo9 The guy in the lead, Officer Kells, gestures for you to get closer. "Right here... your buddies can come along, too, if you didn't mind." The wind picks up and a rather unpleasant smell wafts your directions.
  28. [21:14] Mortis noticed them out the corner of his... socket? He had been busting Gramacy Riffs and Coney Island Warriors and Turnbull AC's since the 70's. Hard not to just bust on them now, but he held back."
  29. [21:14] KriegsaffeNo9 (Quick BRB.)
  30. [21:15] Salamander "Old friends of yours, Mortis?"
  31. [21:16] Mortis "Har Dee fucking har... christ on a crutch, how long this guy been dead?" He moved in to get a better look.
  32. [21:16] -->| Rex (Mibbit@alnnggts401-dmz.mycingular.net) has joined #d&d
  33. [21:16] Deinera rolls in off the street. "So what do I do?"
  34. [21:16] Rex (aaah)
  35. [21:17] Rex (fuck]
  36. [21:17] Mortis "Not to touch anything yet. We have to maintain the scene."
  37. [21:18] Mortis "And if I turn around and Arc is holding something in her hands..."
  38. [21:18] Rex (Can we wait to focus on Mortis and I)
  39. [21:18] Mortis (Its okay, we haven't done athing yet)
  40. [21:18] Arcflash is holding something in her hands! But it's her phone.
  41. [21:18] Mortis finds that acceptable.
  42. [21:19] Rex (I need a recap. The connection sucks)
  43. [21:19] Mortis We got to the scene, which is in the un-gentrified and heavily gang controlled Gramacy Park
  44. [21:19] Mortis We found the body, but all we know is it stinks
  45. [21:20] Rex (See like I'm actually invested in this and I don't want to miss out.)
  46. [21:20] Deinera (We haven't seen the body yet, have we?)
  47. [21:21] Rex (and now I've missed THE body finding)
  48. [21:21] KriegsaffeNo9 (And back!)
  49. [21:21] KriegsaffeNo9 (Rex, I can message you errything right quick!)
  50. [21:21] Rex (So if there is another group we can focus on - lets)
  51. [21:23] |<-- Rex has left lunarnet.org (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
  52. [21:23] KriegsaffeNo9 Mortis, what can your buddies focus on while you're investigating the body?
  53. [21:24] Mortis scratches his chin. "Guys, do me a favor, go outside and try and speak to anyone who found the body or might have seen what happened."
  54. [21:25] Mortis "Just find out what happened in the area, find out the vibe today... maybe search the hotel?"
  55. [21:25] Mortis "I'm gonna try and talk to our dead friend here."
  56. [21:25] KriegsaffeNo9 Kells nudges you, Mort. "We got one of the suspects inside. If one of your buddies takes over handling her, that'd be handy."
  57. [21:25] -->| Rex (Mibbit@alnnggts401-dmz.mycingular.net) has joined #d&d
  58. [21:25] Mortis nodded, thumbing someone to go do it.
  59. [21:25] KriegsaffeNo9 Arcflash, Deinera, Salamander, Hubris--whacha gonna do?
  60. [21:26] Rex (This is what I mean)
  61. [21:26] Arcflash "I can search the bar." Arc teases. "Nah, I'll walk through the hallways and make sure there's nothing too out of place there.
  62. [21:26] Deinera goes over and looks at the body, and pauses. She looks like, if she had a stomach, it would be churning.
  63. [21:26] Hubris "I'd probably have better luck searching the hotel than interrogating a suspect....the latter sounds like a job more suitable for a cop or a fed, and we've got both of those on the team."
  64. [21:27] KriegsaffeNo9 Arc and Hubie have the halls. Deinera, do you wanna keep looking at the impressively dead guy, or handle something else? How 'bout you, Salamander?
  65. [21:28] Salamander "I can sweat her, if you need someone."
  66. [21:28] Mortis looked at Dei. 'Never seen a dead guy before, huh?"
  67. [21:28] Mortis hadn't even really started going over it, suddenly concerned with Dei.
  68. [21:29] |<-- Rex has left lunarnet.org (Ping timeout: 184 seconds)
  69. [21:29] Deinera She then closes her eyes and shudders a bit, a strange thing involving her body rippling like water. "No, not in real life. Sorry."
  70. [21:30] KriegsaffeNo9 Kells nods at you, Salamander. He prints out a few deputy badges from a device on his belt for Arcflash and Hubris, and one for Deinera, though he waits a bit to hand it off to her.
  71. [21:30] KriegsaffeNo9 It's a hell of a thing, Dei--the movies don't really capture the solemnity of the situation. Even in a death like this, which, from your understanding of pop culture, should be pretty ridiculous.
  72. [21:30] Mortis "Don't be." He moved over to her, resting one of his boney mits on her shoulder. 'Listen if it helps, whatever happened to him is why we are hear. To try and give... give the guy some closure, y'know?"
  73. [21:31] Deinera She opens them again, and accepts the badge. "Thank you. That does help."
  74. [21:31] Hubris "Of course you've seen a dead guy before, Dei. Mortis!"
  75. [21:31] Hubris probably isn't helping.
  76. [21:31] KriegsaffeNo9 (Ba dum kish!)
  77. [21:32] Deinera She then tells him, "Once you get the anvil processed, for prints and whatnot, can you take a chip of metal off of it? I may be able to taste something that may help."
  78. [21:32] Mortis stared. "Hubris... time and place. You are on the job now, a representative of the NYPD and part of a murder investigation."
  79. [21:32] Deinera She tries looking up. "So where could the anvil have fallen from?"
  80. [21:33] -->| Rex (Mibbit@alnnggts401-dmz.mycingular.net) has joined #d&d
  81. [21:33] Hubris "Snark doesn't take time off, Mortimer. Just lightening the mood a little."
  82. [21:33] Salamander Sal shrugs before heading in to see to the suspect, "Everybody's gotta deal with it in their own way."
  83. [21:33] Mortis sighs. 'I know just... Sorry, Cases like this kinda... eh,"
  84. [21:33] Mortis looked up as well. What the hell was this area like?
  85. [21:34] KriegsaffeNo9 Mortis, gimmie a Smarts check!
  86. [21:34] Mortis !1d8
  87. [21:34] Mortis !1d6
  88. [21:34] Rex (Seriously, can we hold off? I've already missed half of this)
  89. [21:34] Arcflash (it's clearly Etho. He became fed up trying to get an anvil kill in Minecraft and went ot the real world!)
  90. [21:35] KriegsaffeNo9 (Ah, you want we should pause the game straight up, Rex? I've been trying to work around what you and Mortis would be investigating.)
  91. [21:36] Rex (I mentioned in the IRC that I'd try to be on my phone, but it hasn't been workin out)
  92. [21:36] Mortis (I can wait)
  93. [21:37] Mortis (I don't got work till 2 tomorrow)
  94. [21:37] Rex (And I really don't want to miss an *anvil murder* when I'm a cartoon)
  95. [21:37] KriegsaffeNo9 (How 'bout the rest of you? You cool with cooling heels for--how long do you figure, Rex?)
  96. [21:38] Rex (Maybe 30 minutes)
  97. [21:38] KriegsaffeNo9 (Fine by me! Break for 30, gentlemen, and we'll meet back at 9:10 to continue.)
  98. [21:38] Salamander That's fine, yeah
  99. [21:38] Hubris (( I'm fine with it. Still using a 56k dialup modem in the mountains of Afghanistan? :3 ))
  100. [21:39] Deinera (Sure thing. I'll see if I can't find the latest SU episode to watch.)
  101. [21:40] KriegsaffeNo9 (Truth be told it's kind of refreshing getting back into Detective Story Mode~! Also wow lots of 80s stuff gettin' canon alluvasudden.)
  102. [21:44] Salamander following on the heels of an inverted heist plot
  103. [21:45] Arcflash http://kisscartoon.me/Cartoon/Steven-Universe-Season-02/Episode-20?id=64241 <- if adblock is enabled you'll have to scroll down and hit the 'click here to use your device's player', but you should do that anyway 'cause it works better that way
  104. [21:45] Hubris ( God we need some God we need some ACTION )
  105. [21:45] Hubris ( If we're gonna make it like a true survivor~ )
  106. [21:45] Hubris ( at the risk of sounding extremely dumb, Mr. K's wife was a very obvious Steven Universe reference, right? )
  107. [21:46] Hubris ( Just making sure I'm not crazy. )
  108. [21:46] KriegsaffeNo9 (I had his wife in mind before I saw SU, but it then turned into an SU reference retroactively.)
  109. [21:48] Mortis (I just loive the idea that the gritty, horrible side of New york, that Death Wish New York, is still alive and well)
  110. [21:48] Mortis I actually imagine Paul Kersey is still out there
  111. [21:48] Mortis Killing Hipsters
  112. [21:48] Mortis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEyP4Q8igQY
  113. [21:49] KriegsaffeNo9 (Given it's the relative future, I figure 'Cyrus' is a title/heroic name for any charismatic gang leader with no Talent. A super-powered Cyrus is known as a Slick.)
  114. [21:50] Mortis (And when you leaset expect it, Jeff GOldblum)
  115. [21:50] |<-- Rex has left lunarnet.org (Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client)
  116. [21:50] Mortis Based of the Martyred Cyrus
  117. [21:50] KriegsaffeNo9 (River City, Ocean Town, Beach City... it is not a good idea to live in a city named for water.)
  118. [21:50] Salamander (A Pimp Named Slickback?)
  119. [21:50] Hubris (( "Is that a vintage coat?" "NO, IT'S A RIGHT NOW COAT!" [PUNCH] ))
  120. [21:50] KriegsaffeNo9 River City Ransom's final boss was Slick, a telekinetic [ganger]!
  121. [21:51] Mortis Killed by the Coward Luther?
  122. [21:51] Hubris (( Wasn't the telekinesis retconned in for the GBA port/remake? He was just a little weasel who went down super easy in the original IIRC. Kinda anticlimactic! ))
  123. [21:51] Mortis I also expect Streets of Fire to be canon
  124. [21:51] Hubris (( Especially after the Dragon Twins. ))
  125. [21:52] Mortis Because we are going Nowhere Fast
  126. [21:52] Hubris (( I love Streets of Fire, one of the best 80s movies ))
  127. [21:52] Mortis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjmfQ6ejkPs
  128. [21:52] Hubris (( I'm surprised none of you had seen it before I streamed it, not even Jukku ))
  129. [21:52] Hubris (( and he loves 80s stuff ))
  130. [21:52] Hubris (( the first 5 minutes of the movie is pretty much the plot of Double Dragon ))
  131. [21:53] KriegsaffeNo9 (One of the greats!)
  132. [21:53] Mortis Streets of Fire flopped in the U.S.
  133. [21:53] Mortis But Japan?
  134. [21:53] Mortis Japan LOVED IT
  135. [21:53] Hubris (( It was so gorgeous though ))
  136. [21:54] Hubris (( It's a really weird fusion of 50s and 80s ))
  137. [21:54] Hubris (( But it works! ))
  138. [21:54] Mortis It has one of my favorite intro lines
  139. [21:54] Mortis "In Another Time, In Another Place."
  140. [21:54] Hubris (( kinda like FATAL? ))
  141. [21:55] Mortis Booo
  142. [21:55] Salamander also Rick Moranis!
  143. [21:55] Mortis Walter Hill deserves more credit
  144. [21:56] Deinera I think I will have to go to the library and download it tonorrow?
  145. [21:57] Mortis What?
  146. [21:57] Mortis Streets of Fire?
  147. [21:57] Mortis Ues
  148. [21:57] Hubris that was probably the closest Rick Moranis will ever get to playing a ballsy character.
  149. [21:57] Deinera The SU episode.
  150. [21:57] Mortis Thats a funny way to spell Streets of Fire
  151. [21:57] Mortis (DOWNLOAD IT)
  152. [21:57] Mortis (DO IT)
  153. [21:57] Arcflash "Ever since my act two years ago there's been a rule that you have to wear clothes."
  154. [21:59] KriegsaffeNo9 Pfft.
  155. [21:59] Salamander "I knew you delivered the mail, but I didn't know you delivered Sadie!"
  156. [22:00] Deinera Sorry, no spoilers please?
  157. [22:01] Mortis BIG BOSS IS KEYZER SOSE!
  158. [22:01] Mortis There
  159. [22:01] Mortis I SPOILED IT
  160. [22:02] KriegsaffeNo9 the big boss... HASS the ROCK
  161. [22:04] Salamander pard'n, Zem
  162. [22:05] Arcflash HAH I KNEW IT. I had a better bead on Steven than all those crazies
  163. [22:06] Mortis Few minutes
  164. [22:06] Arcflash which is kinda weird because Steven isn't exactly the msot complicated kid most of the time... he has his edge cases but overall he's upbeat and playful
  165. [22:06] Mortis LamBam Bigelow will return
  166. [22:07] Salamander Mortis BIG BOSS IS KEYZER SOSE!| YOU FUCKER
  167. [22:07] KriegsaffeNo9 Any word on Lammy, Hugo?
  168. [22:07] Salamander KEYZER SOSE WAS CLEARLY
  169. [22:07] Salamander THE PATRIOTS
  170. [22:07] Mortis THE PATRIOTS?!
  171. [22:08] Salamander YES, I JUST SAID THAT
  172. [22:08] Mortis Speaking of this
  173. [22:08] Mortis I absolutly love one of the interview tapes in MGSV
  174. [22:08] Mortis The Burgers of Kazihura Miller
  175. [22:11] -->| Rex (Mibbit@99-122-82-253.lightspeed.spfdmo.sbcglobal.net) has joined #d&d
  176. [22:11] KriegsaffeNo9 Arcflash, Mortis, Salamander, Deinera, Hubris! Inflame thyselves in prayer, 'cause we're back in character!
  177. [22:12] Hubris was heading to the hotel to investigate for clues, or somesuch.
  178. [22:12] Rex (Thank God.)
  179. [22:12] Salamander Well, Sal could feasibly do that. Most of the others don't have levels in Resist Flame, though
  180. [22:12] Rex (Alright, so I'm back, at my computer.)
  181. [22:12] Rex (Thank you all for waiting.)
  182. [22:12] KriegsaffeNo9 (Rock!)
  183. [22:12] KriegsaffeNo9 Ahem: Mortis, give me a Smarts check.
  184. [22:13] Mortis !1d8
  185. [22:13] Mortis !1d6
  186. [22:13] Mortis ... We need Sweetiebot
  187. [22:13] Rex (I'm still unsure of what all has gone on. The last thing I saw was Mortis showing off his new wheels.)
  188. [22:13] Salamander (ah, right!)
  189. [22:14] Salamander (perhaps someone can get you a pastebin while I ready sweetiebot)
  190. [22:14] Mortis (On it)
