- =============
- X Support > 512M RAM
- 7706 supports flat 29 bit physical address space, which is 512M in total
- Wave Ram is also separate from 128M of system RAM
- X PCMCIA support
- Chip selects are not wired up
- =============
- From MC-909
- sample based synth
- transpose in mixer page
- saving patterns to disk
- Reclock the sequence half or double
- Extract Rhythm Instrument
- Sampler:
- sample combine, opposite of chop
- auto sync
- amp edit
- auto trigger
- auto trim
- mix sampling (input and main mix through mfx etc)
- solo, same as above but input doesn’t go through mfx
- Resampling mix in switch, mix in with line in, cool!
- more things can be automated via cc
- Other:
- chord memory
- FX routing view is better
- midi syncable delays
- d beams (HW mod)
- arpeggiator
- add the rec loop rest function on/off, adds a measure of silence before looping
- import the wave editing functions
- Varispeed pitch/bpm
- Smartcard
- Can take an incoming audio signal and autotune it in real time with the 16 velocity pads.
- Hardware/Mapping:
- Crossfader (hw change) w/ A/B assign
- USB speed ups, chip supports 2.0
- https://m.facebook.com/groups/135127596536965/permalink/1393410204042025/
- Use the editor which allows to choose up to 4 different controller(knobs,
- faders, mini faders etc) to assign them 3 parameters to control, so for
- example:AMP release will control pitch+cutoff+lforate simultaneously (!!) so you
- have nasty weirdy fx with one knob/fader etc and you can automate them (and
- resample them)
- When holding shift on the MV for keyboard input, it should work
- PS/2 keyboard support - the schematics show it wired in and you just need a PS/2 splitter.
- My mouse scroll wheel direction is backwards
- Apart from physically opening up the MV & unsoldering it, has anyone discovered
- a way to disable the constant flashing tempo light ? I don't see the point in
- it, other than adding wear & tear to the led. It'd much rather it only flashed
- during playback or recording. Is there a setting in the service mode that can be
- tweaked?
- One thing that is much better on the akai (there may be things I'm missing with
- the roland, I searched the manual, but if anyone knows of something I don't
- please post to clear up any mis-information I may be spreading) is that you can
- adjust the sensitivity of each pad individually over all the banks (96 pads
- total) between 100 and 200%. The roland is a global adjustment of all pad
- sensitivity and it only has three choices (light, medium , heavy or whatever
- words they use). I don't like the way the roland makes you hit a bank button and
- then scroll through the 6 choices instead of hitting a single button like on the
- akai for each bank so you can switch banks live in a performance more easily.
- Enable using the faders to control the volume of individual audio phrases.
- C knobs:
- Assign multiple controls to c1, etc
- A way to bank C1-C3 for an additional 3 controls
- It would be nice if the "C" MIDI port data line was accessible somewhere inside
- the MV chassis so that the 3rd output could be added with a small mod. You'd
- still have to "trick" the MV into thinking the RBUS card is installed in order
- to get the "C" MIDI port to show up in the UI.
- MIDI/Automation/Sequencer:
- More realtime controllers.
- Ability to transpose output notes of pads (for use with DAWs)
- Arpeggiator, per track
- Parameter locking or some sort of advanced parameter automation
- Pitch to MIDI
- Reverse MIDI
- Probability for MIDI notes
- Better sysex support (for controlling other synths/patches)
- Automation viewer other than events list
- MIDI effects like on pyramid, maybe use midi effects tracks, or shift-mfx to get to midi effects
- Transpose MIDI data of a certain track in real time
- Track Mute Menu: Track Mute, Track Mute Group, Pad Mute, Pad Mute Group; all can be automated
- Thinking to MC or MV series , does somebody know if I can transfer the 16 pad
- sounds to midi electronic drums or a midi keyboard or directly to cubase piano
- roll ? I don't think you can do that with the MV. It's easy though to export any midi
- you do put down. Slave cubase to the mv, then record each track at a time.
- Allow MV to output MIDI so it can be used as a controller.
- That's why the MV and all other Roland sequencers like the MC line should have
- had the arranger that came with the Roland PMA-5. Any melody or chord
- progression you put into it can be automatically (correctly) transposed to any
- other key, regardless of key quality.
- File dialogs:
- Remove the popup after mastering asking if you want to cut a CD.
- The Sample Edit screen could use a cursor that scrolls across the waveform.
- Streamline deleting samples
- Multi file select to delete in File Utility (see Mark On/Off in Sample Import)
- Directory travel with panel buttons
- Shift enter or up should go up a directory in a file chooser
- When scrolling through lists shift L and R arrows should page up/down
- Double clicking control goes back to default value
- Put the little number hints superscript on each button
- Some dialogs don't close except with mouse, like audio event parameters
- Remove this annoying "finished" pop up, after loading a patch, normalise a sample etc.
- My number one workflow complaint with the MV is the inability to cycle through
- active pop up windows without completely closing the ones on top. While you can
- unstack windows and move them around so you can see them all, one of the only
- pop ups I know of that you can change parameters on simultaneously is the pad
- bank window. Could be wrong but it seems that way. The use of the shift key and
- directional buttons would be a nice way to cycle.
- Other UI:
- Sequencer-wise, I seem to end up pressing too many buttons on the MV to get
- things done. The [+ track] and [- track] simplicity of the MPC pretty much can't
- be improved on. You can set up the MV to work in almost the same way, though --
- to be fair, but why it isn't this way automatically is beyond me. (Maybe it's a
- plagiarism thing.) All in all, there are lots of tiny ways in which the MPC is more refined. A main
- one that comes to mind is that I can alter the active pad in [Program] mode
- without striking that pad. (To do this on the MV I'd have to use a mouse and
- monitor which completely defeats the purpose for me.) To be fair, the MV
- receives frequent software updates and many subtle refinements are always being
- made. The MV has a [Hold] button. The way it's implemented is currently not very
- useful however -- it disengages if you switch Pad Banks or Instruments (aka "Parts" on the 4000).
- Zoomable Audio track to see the waves, not those white gum sticks we currently have..
- Part Meters
- In VGA mode, when hilighting a track, should be able to cursor over to toggle
- Mute, Solo, etc. Currently that only works in LCD. In VGA the cursor controls
- the current location.
- When using the VGA, still show the F1-F5 options so you can use the panel buttons
- When doing pad banks, allow auditioning with mouse click too
- Remember the directory when you save a patch, so when saving new patch it brings you directly in this directory
- Add Shift + Quick Set sets end of looping region
- Non mouse way to bring up the sequence menu or add midi/audio tracks
- There's an issue w/ direct recording, only 2 choices Mono/Stereo, but there are 3 "clicks" worth of choices.
- In the mixer show actual meters or VUs, have it be a 3rd tab after EQ
- A meter showing gain reduction in compressor MFX could be cool
- The ability to stop the piano roll from scrolling. The drum grid
- doesn't scroll but it's not as useful with pitched TR-Rec type input.
- The drum roll window should be zoomable.
- A way to set current red marker position with mouse click
- Shift loop brings up LOOP popup
- Easier way to set start and end of loop region
- Why can’t change the loop length in pattern mode?
- Single click in large bar in pre roll should select all notes in track, shift and that selects everything
- When pasting a pattern does it to a midi track
- Shift pattern should bring up pattern list
- Add ability to delete a track from the panel buttons
- Fader takeover use relative scaling
- Use colors in get multi effects for when effect turned on or not
- Where is pattern track in mixer?
- Record pattern play mode?
- I don’t even know if it makes sense but is there a way to turn on or off
- "follow cursor" just like in cubase or reason? A lot of times I just want to
- do edits (in MIDI) while the song is playing... and not necessarily right
- where the cursor is. That screen jumping back and forth drives me crazy...
- Sampler:
- Chop based on velocity
- Variphrase
- More sample categories
- Cycle and Random sample zone play
- adjust/modulate the samples loop start and position in real time
- A way to level trigger samples and move to next pad
- Resample at lower freq
- Boomerang sample mode in addition to forward backward, goes back and forth
- Export multiple samples at once (eg add save function in sample manager when you are able to select samples for deleting)
- Ability to edit more than one partial in a patch at once, for example set a lowpass filter on all partials If not possible
- Assign C controls to partial edit params
- Cycle and Random sample zone play
- That Fast Sampling sounds kinda cool, you mean like to hit pad 1 to sample a
- portion of a record and as it plays, you hit pad 2 to sample another portion on
- the fly. No, the MV don't got that feature, but then again you can use the Chop
- to either Auto or manually chop up a large portion to different pads.
- Another thing where the MV's sampler falls short is ya can only use 16 internal
- patches per song. On the MPC4K, ya can have 128 parts active in one multi, a
- different program on each track. It's like havin' 128 internal MIDI channels!
- Implement mpc chop feature “release”
- A possibility to randomise the 4 samples in the SMT. Right now the samples can
- only be set to velocity lo/hi; it would be great if whatever incoming velocity
- the SMT would randomly choose one of the four samples, while the VCA takes care
- of the actual level of the sample. This would allow for some nice
- humanisation/human feel on drum kits. (e.g. on hi-hats, ride cymbals, snares etc
- It lacks some stuff at sample editing levels like the bit depth with masking
- options you'll find on S760, you have to think a bit differently.
- 16 levels mode – velocity, filter, tune, decay, attack, layer
- Roland modular on each sample.
- Effects/Filters/etc:
- Master EQ and Compressor, outside of mastering
- Improve effects routing
- The MV does not have a LOT of modulation options. If they would integrate a 64 point Modulation Matrix like the MPC 4000
- 7 Filters options per pad (4 additional variations) – 2, 4, 6, 8 slope options with additional filters in the 4 x 2 buss effects processor
- More FX per part
- 'Scatter' functionality, sorta like a stutter effect for audio
- Add a step sequencer for modulating synth/effects
- Add Filters. MPC 5K gives you 11 filter options with full ADSR and other additional parameters to adjust per sample. The MV gives you 3 filter options per sample with fewer paramaters
- I don't know if I agree about that....
- Sidechain/ducking for compresser
- I bet that if you could make some changes to the vocoder FX it could act as a
- decent sidechain Hangnef, since it has two inputs and envelope followers.
- Other Functionality:
- Add the ability to "export" individual (or multiple simultaneous) tracks direct
- to disk. Using Remix to do this adds a small delay to the start of the track.
- Improve project loading/saving times
- Patched Phrase
- Direct note access
- Instant track mute for beat juggling
- Add a tuner
- Another feature to add: when step recording a phrase you have to press the
- destination pad. It would be great if this could be done using the mouse and/or
- a keyboard combination.
- More undo
- i.e. You can delete an MPC 5K track and use undo to bring it back. You can't do this with the MV.
- Route metronome to headphones only
- add support for crossfading loops
- https://www.mv-nation.com/index.php?topic=150.0
- Allow more than 1 pattern track
- 1) Turn the input monitor off, so folks without op-1 can route through an effect
- an record direct back to the mv without feedback.
- Another one: allow to load a patch into a another patch, for example you have a
- drum kit on bank a, load another kit/patch into bank b
- Custom groove templates
- Sample gain change algorithm.
- 16 mono from 8 stereo audio tracks
- 960 ppqn support
- Increase max number of notes
- Show time sig not numbers for quantize
- A way to change the duration of the rolls on the fly like my padKontrol
- Flams
- Loop Start/End point: is it possible to tweak it while the sequencer is playing?
- You can tweak it for different tracks (not simultaneously)?
- Project/Song/Track text notes
- Add time stretching of instruments (changing pitch of sample without changing the length of playing sample)?
- Handle sample encodings other than 44khz 16bit
- NOTE: Not sure this is possible, the codec chips involved don't seem to support this
- Change patterns on the fly in MPC manner
- Ability to glue sections together
- Nudging
- Features from Fantom G
- Synth/XV:
- I would like Roland to add a sine wave as a waveform option to the onboard synth.
- Random bass synth patch generation
- Bugs:
- Audio phrase Reverse and BPM sync enabled when set to Drum Pad Play mode (not Gate or Trigger)
- In global settings, make this persist
- I remember for some reason , mine was set to -9db for many projects. I was
- unaware of it and it seems to work for both sampling and resampling.
- only annoying thing is that it always reverts to -12db on restart.
- Deleting of bars from pattern after changing loop times and rebooting
- https://www.mv-nation.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=c6i0hk8199ursl92oe5mlrg65b&topic=431.msg1791#new
- Autochop a phrase and make it a patch. Then I'll add another sample to the
- patch. When I do, the sample is pitched down 2 semitones. It doesn't matter
- what note # I assign the sample to, it always has to be raised 2 cents to
- get it back into pitch.
