  1. X is cannot be done
  2. ! is done
  3.
  4. =============
  5.
  6. X Support > 512M RAM
  7. 7706 supports flat 29 bit physical address space, which is 512M in total
  8. Wave Ram is also separate from 128M of system RAM
  9.
  10. X PCMCIA support
  11. Chip selects are not wired up
  12.
  13. =============
  14.
  15. From MC-909
  16.
  17. sample based synth
  18. transpose in mixer page
  19. saving patterns to disk
  20. Reclock the sequence half or double
  21. Extract Rhythm Instrument
  22.
  23. Sampler:
  24. sample combine, opposite of chop
  25. auto sync
  26. amp edit
  27. auto trigger
  28. auto trim
  29. mix sampling (input and main mix through mfx etc)
  30. solo, same as above but input doesn’t go through mfx
  31. Resampling mix in switch, mix in with line in, cool!
  32. more things can be automated via cc
  33.
  34. Other:
  35. chord memory
  36. FX routing view is better
  37. midi syncable delays
  38. d beams (HW mod)
  39. arpeggiator
  40. add the rec loop rest function on/off, adds a measure of silence before looping
  41. import the wave editing functions
  42. Varispeed pitch/bpm
  43. Smartcard
  44. Can take an incoming audio signal and autotune it in real time with the 16 velocity pads.
  45.
  46. Hardware/Mapping:
  47.
  48. Crossfader (hw change) w/ A/B assign
  49.
  50. USB speed ups, chip supports 2.0
  51. https://m.facebook.com/groups/135127596536965/permalink/1393410204042025/
  52.
  53. Use the editor which allows to choose up to 4 different controller(knobs,
  54. faders, mini faders etc) to assign them 3 parameters to control, so for
  55. example:AMP release will control pitch+cutoff+lforate simultaneously (!!) so you
  56. have nasty weirdy fx with one knob/fader etc and you can automate them (and
  57. resample them)
  58.
  59. When holding shift on the MV for keyboard input, it should work
  60.
  61. PS/2 keyboard support - the schematics show it wired in and you just need a PS/2 splitter.
  62.
  63. My mouse scroll wheel direction is backwards
  64.
  65. Apart from physically opening up the MV & unsoldering it, has anyone discovered
  66. a way to disable the constant flashing tempo light ? I don't see the point in
  67. it, other than adding wear & tear to the led. It'd much rather it only flashed
  68. during playback or recording. Is there a setting in the service mode that can be
  69. tweaked?
  70.
  71. One thing that is much better on the akai (there may be things I'm missing with
  72. the roland, I searched the manual, but if anyone knows of something I don't
  73. please post to clear up any mis-information I may be spreading) is that you can
  74. adjust the sensitivity of each pad individually over all the banks (96 pads
  75. total) between 100 and 200%. The roland is a global adjustment of all pad
  76. sensitivity and it only has three choices (light, medium , heavy or whatever
  77. words they use). I don't like the way the roland makes you hit a bank button and
  78. then scroll through the 6 choices instead of hitting a single button like on the
  79. akai for each bank so you can switch banks live in a performance more easily.
  80.
  81. Enable using the faders to control the volume of individual audio phrases.
  82.
  83. C knobs:
  84. Assign multiple controls to c1, etc
  85. A way to bank C1-C3 for an additional 3 controls
  86.
  87. It would be nice if the "C" MIDI port data line was accessible somewhere inside
  88. the MV chassis so that the 3rd output could be added with a small mod. You'd
  89. still have to "trick" the MV into thinking the RBUS card is installed in order
  90. to get the "C" MIDI port to show up in the UI.
  91.
  92. MIDI/Automation/Sequencer:
  93.
  94. More realtime controllers.
  95.
  96. Ability to transpose output notes of pads (for use with DAWs)
  97.
  98. Arpeggiator, per track
  99.
  100. Parameter locking or some sort of advanced parameter automation
  101.
  102. Pitch to MIDI
  103.
  104. Reverse MIDI
  105.
  106. Probability for MIDI notes
  107.
  108. Better sysex support (for controlling other synths/patches)
  109.
  110. Automation viewer other than events list
  111.
  112. MIDI effects like on pyramid, maybe use midi effects tracks, or shift-mfx to get to midi effects
  113.
  114. Transpose MIDI data of a certain track in real time
  115.
  116. Track Mute Menu: Track Mute, Track Mute Group, Pad Mute, Pad Mute Group; all can be automated
  117.
  118. Thinking to MC or MV series , does somebody know if I can transfer the 16 pad
  119. sounds to midi electronic drums or a midi keyboard or directly to cubase piano
  120. roll ? I don't think you can do that with the MV. It's easy though to export any midi
  121. you do put down. Slave cubase to the mv, then record each track at a time.
  122.
  123. Allow MV to output MIDI so it can be used as a controller.
  124.
  125. That's why the MV and all other Roland sequencers like the MC line should have
  126. had the arranger that came with the Roland PMA-5. Any melody or chord
  127. progression you put into it can be automatically (correctly) transposed to any
  128. other key, regardless of key quality.
  129.
  130. File dialogs:
  131.
  132. Remove the popup after mastering asking if you want to cut a CD.
  133.
  134. The Sample Edit screen could use a cursor that scrolls across the waveform.
  135.
  136. Streamline deleting samples
  137. Multi file select to delete in File Utility (see Mark On/Off in Sample Import)
  138.
  139. Directory travel with panel buttons
  140.
  141. Shift enter or up should go up a directory in a file chooser
  142.
  143. When scrolling through lists shift L and R arrows should page up/down
  144.
  145. Double clicking control goes back to default value
  146.
  147. Put the little number hints superscript on each button
  148.
  149. Some dialogs don't close except with mouse, like audio event parameters
  150.
  151. Remove this annoying "finished" pop up, after loading a patch, normalise a sample etc.
  152.
  153. My number one workflow complaint with the MV is the inability to cycle through
  154. active pop up windows without completely closing the ones on top. While you can
  155. unstack windows and move them around so you can see them all, one of the only
  156. pop ups I know of that you can change parameters on simultaneously is the pad
  157. bank window. Could be wrong but it seems that way. The use of the shift key and
  158. directional buttons would be a nice way to cycle.
  159.
  160. Other UI:
  161.
  162. Sequencer-wise, I seem to end up pressing too many buttons on the MV to get
  163. things done. The [+ track] and [- track] simplicity of the MPC pretty much can't
  164. be improved on. You can set up the MV to work in almost the same way, though --
  165. to be fair, but why it isn't this way automatically is beyond me. (Maybe it's a
  166. plagiarism thing.) All in all, there are lots of tiny ways in which the MPC is more refined. A main
  167. one that comes to mind is that I can alter the active pad in [Program] mode
  168. without striking that pad. (To do this on the MV I'd have to use a mouse and
  169. monitor which completely defeats the purpose for me.) To be fair, the MV
  170. receives frequent software updates and many subtle refinements are always being
  171. made. The MV has a [Hold] button. The way it's implemented is currently not very
  172. useful however -- it disengages if you switch Pad Banks or Instruments (aka "Parts" on the 4000).
  173.
  174. Zoomable Audio track to see the waves, not those white gum sticks we currently have..
  175.
  176. Part Meters
  177.
  178. In VGA mode, when hilighting a track, should be able to cursor over to toggle
  179. Mute, Solo, etc. Currently that only works in LCD. In VGA the cursor controls
  180. the current location.
  181.
  182. When using the VGA, still show the F1-F5 options so you can use the panel buttons
  183.
  184. When doing pad banks, allow auditioning with mouse click too
  185.
  186. Remember the directory when you save a patch, so when saving new patch it brings you directly in this directory
  187.
  188. Add Shift + Quick Set sets end of looping region
  189.
  190. Non mouse way to bring up the sequence menu or add midi/audio tracks
  191.
  192. There's an issue w/ direct recording, only 2 choices Mono/Stereo, but there are 3 "clicks" worth of choices.
  193.
  194. In the mixer show actual meters or VUs, have it be a 3rd tab after EQ
  195.
  196. A meter showing gain reduction in compressor MFX could be cool
  197.
  198. The ability to stop the piano roll from scrolling. The drum grid
  199. doesn't scroll but it's not as useful with pitched TR-Rec type input.
  200.
  201. The drum roll window should be zoomable.
  202.
  203. A way to set current red marker position with mouse click
  204.
  205. Shift loop brings up LOOP popup
  206.
  207. Easier way to set start and end of loop region
  208.
  209. Why can’t change the loop length in pattern mode?
  210.
  211. Single click in large bar in pre roll should select all notes in track, shift and that selects everything
  212.
  213. When pasting a pattern does it to a midi track
  214.
  215. Shift pattern should bring up pattern list
  216.
  217. Add ability to delete a track from the panel buttons
  218.
  219. Fader takeover use relative scaling
  220.
  221. Use colors in get multi effects for when effect turned on or not
  222.
  223. Where is pattern track in mixer?
  224.
  225. Record pattern play mode?
  226.
  227. I don’t even know if it makes sense but is there a way to turn on or off
  228. "follow cursor" just like in cubase or reason? A lot of times I just want to
  229. do edits (in MIDI) while the song is playing... and not necessarily right
  230. where the cursor is. That screen jumping back and forth drives me crazy...
  231.
  232. Sampler:
  233.
  234. Chop based on velocity
  235.
  236. Variphrase
  237.
  238. More sample categories
  239.
  240. Cycle and Random sample zone play
  241.
  242. adjust/modulate the samples loop start and position in real time
  243.
  244. A way to level trigger samples and move to next pad
  245.
  246. Resample at lower freq
  247.
  248. Boomerang sample mode in addition to forward backward, goes back and forth
  249.
  250. Export multiple samples at once (eg add save function in sample manager when you are able to select samples for deleting)
  251.
  252. Ability to edit more than one partial in a patch at once, for example set a lowpass filter on all partials If not possible
  253.
  254. Assign C controls to partial edit params
  255.
  256. Cycle and Random sample zone play
  257.
  258. That Fast Sampling sounds kinda cool, you mean like to hit pad 1 to sample a
  259. portion of a record and as it plays, you hit pad 2 to sample another portion on
  260. the fly. No, the MV don't got that feature, but then again you can use the Chop
  261. to either Auto or manually chop up a large portion to different pads.
  262.
  263. Another thing where the MV's sampler falls short is ya can only use 16 internal
  264. patches per song. On the MPC4K, ya can have 128 parts active in one multi, a
  265. different program on each track. It's like havin' 128 internal MIDI channels!
  266.
  267. Implement mpc chop feature “release”
  268.
  269. A possibility to randomise the 4 samples in the SMT. Right now the samples can
  270. only be set to velocity lo/hi; it would be great if whatever incoming velocity
  271. the SMT would randomly choose one of the four samples, while the VCA takes care
  272. of the actual level of the sample. This would allow for some nice
  273. humanisation/human feel on drum kits. (e.g. on hi-hats, ride cymbals, snares etc
  274.
  275. It lacks some stuff at sample editing levels like the bit depth with masking
  276. options you'll find on S760, you have to think a bit differently.
  277.
  278. 16 levels mode – velocity, filter, tune, decay, attack, layer
  279.
  280. Roland modular on each sample.
  281.
  282. Effects/Filters/etc:
  283.
  284. Master EQ and Compressor, outside of mastering
  285.
  286. Improve effects routing
  287.
  288. The MV does not have a LOT of modulation options. If they would integrate a 64 point Modulation Matrix like the MPC 4000
  289.
  290. 7 Filters options per pad (4 additional variations) – 2, 4, 6, 8 slope options with additional filters in the 4 x 2 buss effects processor
  291.
  292. More FX per part
  293.
  294. 'Scatter' functionality, sorta like a stutter effect for audio
  295.
  296. Add a step sequencer for modulating synth/effects
  297.
  298. Add Filters. MPC 5K gives you 11 filter options with full ADSR and other additional parameters to adjust per sample. The MV gives you 3 filter options per sample with fewer paramaters
  299. I don't know if I agree about that....
  300.
  301. Sidechain/ducking for compresser
  302. I bet that if you could make some changes to the vocoder FX it could act as a
  303. decent sidechain Hangnef, since it has two inputs and envelope followers.
  304.
  305. Other Functionality:
  306.
  307. Add the ability to "export" individual (or multiple simultaneous) tracks direct
  308. to disk. Using Remix to do this adds a small delay to the start of the track.
  309.
  310. Improve project loading/saving times
  311.
  312. Patched Phrase
  313.
  314. Direct note access
  315.
  316. Instant track mute for beat juggling
  317.
  318. Add a tuner
  319.
  320. Another feature to add: when step recording a phrase you have to press the
  321. destination pad. It would be great if this could be done using the mouse and/or
  322. a keyboard combination.
  323.
  324. More undo
  325. i.e. You can delete an MPC 5K track and use undo to bring it back. You can't do this with the MV.
  326.
  327. Route metronome to headphones only
  328.
  329. add support for crossfading loops
  330. https://www.mv-nation.com/index.php?topic=150.0
  331.
  332. Allow more than 1 pattern track
  333.
  334. 1) Turn the input monitor off, so folks without op-1 can route through an effect
  335. an record direct back to the mv without feedback.
  336.
  337. Another one: allow to load a patch into a another patch, for example you have a
  338. drum kit on bank a, load another kit/patch into bank b
  339.
  340. Custom groove templates
  341.
  342. Sample gain change algorithm.
  343.
  344. 16 mono from 8 stereo audio tracks
  345.
  346. 960 ppqn support
  347.
  348. Increase max number of notes
  349.
  350. Show time sig not numbers for quantize
  351.
  352. A way to change the duration of the rolls on the fly like my padKontrol
  353.
  354. Flams
  355.
  356. Loop Start/End point: is it possible to tweak it while the sequencer is playing?
  357. You can tweak it for different tracks (not simultaneously)?
  358.
  359. Project/Song/Track text notes
  360.
  361. Add time stretching of instruments (changing pitch of sample without changing the length of playing sample)?
  362.
  363. Handle sample encodings other than 44khz 16bit
  364. NOTE: Not sure this is possible, the codec chips involved don't seem to support this
  365.
  366. Change patterns on the fly in MPC manner
  367.
  368. Ability to glue sections together
  369.
  370. Nudging
  371.
  372. Features from Fantom G
  373.
  374. Synth/XV:
  375.
  376. I would like Roland to add a sine wave as a waveform option to the onboard synth.
  377.
  378. Random bass synth patch generation
  379.
  380. Bugs:
  381.
  382. Audio phrase Reverse and BPM sync enabled when set to Drum Pad Play mode (not Gate or Trigger)
  383.
  384. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9V3p_P01TQ
  385.
  386. In global settings, make this persist
  387. I remember for some reason , mine was set to -9db for many projects. I was
  388. unaware of it and it seems to work for both sampling and resampling.
  389. only annoying thing is that it always reverts to -12db on restart.
  390.
  391. https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showpost.php?p=6074606&postcount=2
  392.
  393. Deleting of bars from pattern after changing loop times and rebooting
  394. https://www.mv-nation.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=c6i0hk8199ursl92oe5mlrg65b&topic=431.msg1791#new
  395.
  396. Autochop a phrase and make it a patch. Then I'll add another sample to the
  397. patch. When I do, the sample is pitched down 2 semitones. It doesn't matter
  398. what note # I assign the sample to, it always has to be raised 2 cents to
  399. get it back into pitch.
