  1. [20:44.30] * DM changes topic to: A Handful of Dust Session 87: Clattering Steps
  2. [20:44.35] <DM> So we begin.
  3. [20:45.01] <DM> Snow begins to fall, gently, through the hole in the ceiling dome of the citadel of Ekrat.
  4. [20:45.39] <DM> The Palethorn sits on a chunk of fallen marble, polishing his halberd.
  5. [20:46.22] <DM> "What are we?" he asks the empty air.
  6. [20:46.45] <DM> Aridai is there, suddenly, standing in the otherwise empty hall, empty but for the corpses.
  7. [20:47.06] <DM> "You are part of us. You know what we are."
  8. [20:47.32] <DM> Palethorn inclines his head, moving to stand before the Apastron motions him down.
  9. [20:48.03] <DM> "But it is more than that."
  10. [20:48.09] <DM> "I was slain."
  11. [20:48.38] <DM> "And more than once," says Aridai, and the Palethorn gasps as a number of sequestered memories come pouring back into his mind.
  12. [20:48.58] <DM> A snowy hillside, a duel, a failure.
  13. [20:49.43] <DM> "How many times have you brought me back?"
  14. [20:49.59] <DM> The Apastron smiles, patiently.
  15. [20:50.18] <DM> "It isn't that simple."
  16. [20:51.03] <DM> "Why am I here, if I failed?" he mutters.
  17. [20:51.39] <DM> "You upset him," says Aridai. "He knows, in his heart, that I am right, but he has always hated me."
  18. [20:51.46] <DM> "You, he loved."
  19. [20:52.10] <DM> "That is too cruel," says the Palethorn.
  20. [20:52.57] <DM> "Did you ever see wounded soldiers, of your own?" says the Apastron, already knowing the answer.
  21. [20:53.13] <DM> "Of course," says the Palethorn.
  22. [20:53.33] <DM> "Too wounded to walk on, not enough horses or carts, and the baggage train already ravaged by the enemy, on a long campaign."
  23. [20:53.50] <DM> "I know where you're going with this," says Palethorn, disapprovingly.
  24. [20:54.29] <DM> "The hope, and the pain, in their lingering struggle, their trust in you, even as you prodded the wound with your fingers and knew all your magic was gone."
  25. [20:54.58] <DM> "What did you do, Adran," finishes the Apastron.
  26. [20:55.08] <DM> "I ended it."
  27. [20:55.23] <DM> A gust of icy wind whistles outside.
  28. [20:55.50] <DM> "You did the best thing you could," concludes the Apastron.
  29. [20:56.34] <DM> "And we say that this universe is the same. A wounded boy, awaiting a painless release," says Adran, absorbing the lesson.
  30. [20:57.33] <DM> "Not just that, but your squire," finishes the Apastron.
  31. [20:58.22] <DM> "Don't fail me again, Palethorn."
  32. [20:58.37] <DM> "I..." it hesitates.
  33. [20:58.49] <DM> Aridai smiles.
  34. [20:59.07] <DM> He draws void blade with an effortless swipe.
  35. [20:59.53] <DM> The Palethorn is cleaved instantly, collapsing to the ground, torso gushing negative energy.
  36. [21:00.03] <DM> And then the two halves, slowly, begin to regenerate.
  37. [21:00.11] <DM> Each into a new Palethorn.
  38. [21:00.31] <DM> And then Aridai does it again.
  39. [21:00.43] <DM> And again.
  40. [21:00.45] <+Mel> [his voice gets slightly higher with each repetition]
  41. [21:00.54] <DM> ---
  42. [21:00.57] <+Repriever> [goddammit]
  43. [21:01.08] <+Shala> [attack of the clones]
  44. [21:01.34] <DM> Meanwhile, in the Citadel, you are all finally able to relax after weeks of constant fear and struggle.
  45. [21:01.36] <+Repriever> [you shoulda brought more palethorns]
  46. [21:02.11] <DM> Your strides clatter excitedly up the gangplank as Hin welcomes you home, warmly.
  47. [21:02.45] * Repriever takes in the aroma of the old wood.
  48. [21:02.53] <+Shala> "Ahhhh..."
  49. [21:02.58] * Shala takes in the familiarity
  50. [21:03.32] <+Shala> "How many vagrants and other sorts have taken up in my room Hin?"
  51. [21:03.38] * Repriever goes to where the deck was ruptured in the fighting to see the repairs.
  52. [21:04.17] <DM> "Naturally there were many applicants for precocious girl-wonder mage, but I denied all of them," replies Hin, laughing.
  53. [21:04.19] * Mel checks in on Barg, Kylma, Piro and the Knights.
  54. [21:04.36] * Shala nods affirmatively
  55. [21:04.49] * Penumbra is glad to be out of the situation with Carcephon. She clearly wants something from broaching her plan so early.
  56. [21:05.08] <+Repriever> [did the snakes follow us up?]
  57. [21:05.11] <DM> Hin informs you, Mel, that Piro has taken up residence in the Elydian tower, as there are a number of children his age among the Elydian exiles.
  58. [21:05.31] <DM> Carcephon and Vyriscine are consulting amongst themselves, and using their magic to set up camp for their troops.
  59. [21:05.37] <DM> So they are still outside.
  60. [21:05.58] * Repriever rubs his hand along the new wood, where it blends into the ancient works.
  61. [21:06.11] <+Repriever> "As strong as ever, Hin?"
  62. [21:06.22] <DM> When you get down to the stables on the Reme, Kylma actually JUMPS over the barrier clearly meant for horses, swarming over the ceiling and down the wall to tackle Mel excitedly.
  63. [21:06.27] * You are now known as Hin
  64. [21:06.29] <Hin> "Indeed."
  65. [21:06.54] * Mel hug-wrestles with Kylma.
  66. [21:06.59] <+Mel>  *hug-wrassles
  67. [21:07.13] <Hin> "I have had quite an eager young student in Julia, and I have taught her how to embue shadow into the wood to merge with my workings."
  68. [21:07.29] * Repriever enters Hin's quarters at the rear of the deck.
  69. [21:07.37] <Hin> "Luckily there are many forests in this region to supply."
  70. [21:07.54] * Penumbra does a quick inspection of the work, pressing her fingers along the wood (shadowplanes)
  71. [21:08.01] <+Penumbra> ?roll 1d20+9
  72. [21:08.01] <%tBot> Penumbra: 19 ([10] +9)
  73. [21:08.03] <+Repriever> "Very good."
  74. [21:08.46] <+Repriever> "And the supply hold? Is it full?"
  75. [21:08.56] * azale_ (IceChat9@cpe-97-98-83-80.stx.res.rr.com) has joined channel #nesdnd
  76. [21:09.01] <+Mel> "Any of my knights on board, or are they in the hidden city?"
  77. [21:09.15] * azale_ is now known as Shala_
  78. [21:10.04] <Hin> "We are well prepared for a long campaign."
  79. [21:10.20] * You are now known as DM
  80. [21:10.40] * Shala (IceChat9@cpe-97-98-83-80.stx.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
  81. [21:11.00] <DM> "Still berthing on the Reme, Melchior."
  82. [21:11.17] <DM> "They've done wonders on my ballistae."
  83. [21:12.10] * Kir briefly checks the kitchen and pantry, then retires to his quarters
  84. [21:12.20] * Repriever descends down the rear stairwell, cutting through the hall to the main cabins. He enters the one he previously shared with Penumbra to check if he left any effects.
  85. [21:12.45] * Repriever knows he didn't leave any written works behind.
  86. [21:12.45] <DM> There are a few things.
  87. [21:12.51] <DM> Your Calcissi court clothes, for example.
  88. [21:12.55] * Repriever was hopeful anyway.
  89. [21:13.00] * Shala_ checks her quarters, but is generally restless and wanders the ship at her leisure, spyign on its inhabitants
  90. [21:13.21] * Mel finally manages to climb on top of the eager and unruly Kylma, and checks on Barg.
  91. [21:13.55] <DM> Barg looks up at you, with an expression that expresses complete understanding at your reasons for being gone so long, but mild disapproval nonetheless.
  92. [21:14.28] * Repriever runs his hands over the black silk outfit, remembering how the palace was before the fall.
  93. [21:15.12] * Shala_ is now known as Shala
  94. [21:15.18] * NK sets mode +v Shala for #nesdnd
  95. [21:15.42] <+Penumbra> "Hin, we'll need a quiet and secure room for Carcephon's consultation tonight. I am considering either the Quarter deck or my office. "
  96. [21:16.14] * You are now known as Hin
  97. [21:16.19] * Hin hums.
  98. [21:16.36] * Repriever winds up sitting on the bed, changing out of his plate and into the court outfit as a leisurely pace. He's enjoying the silence and solitude.
  99. [21:16.39] * Mel checks to make sure that Barg has been well cared for, and discusses her latest learnings and discoveries with the best listener on four hooves.
  100. [21:16.57] <Hin> "So you plan to speak to her before we meet with the Council of Wardens, tomorrow morning?"
  101. [21:17.15] <Hin> "I would keep her above."
  102. [21:17.32] <Hin> "I do not want her to glean additional weaknesses from seeing your personal room."
  103. [21:17.50] <+Penumbra> "Yes. We would review her map of the city and its defenses."
  104. [21:18.05] * Penumbra nods considering
  105. [21:18.23] <Hin> "Clairvoyance that strong can draw intense conclusions to their divination map from seemingly obscure objects."
  106. [21:18.32] <Hin> "I am no diviner, but that much, I know."
  107. [21:18.39] <+Penumbra> "Perhaps on deck itself, under starlight would be appropriate."
  108. [21:19.03] <Hin> "I agree."
  109. [21:19.59] * Mel goes to catch up with the Knights.
  110. [21:20.31] <+Penumbra> "Your wards would cover our conversation sufficiently?"
  111. [21:22.01] <Hin> "Yes, the Reme is under Silence as well as Invisibility, when I wish it."
  112. [21:22.15] <Hin> "And scrying, short of an Essence, is impossible."
  113. [21:22.32] * Repriever reminisces of times seemingly forever ago, of a baby learning to talk and a divine drifting lazily through the halls.
  114. [21:22.46] * Penumbra is satisfied with this confirmed, and heads down to her room - hers and reprievers and madeis
  115. [21:23.41] * Repriever is seated on the bed, facing the open doors, staring at nothing, really.
  116. [21:24.25] <+Kir> ?roll 1d20+2
  117. [21:24.25] <%tBot> Kir: 11 ([9] +2)
  118. [21:24.32] * Penumbra drifts through the open door, past the office to face Repriever. She notices his gaze as she walks into it, and returns it.
  119. [21:24.53] <+Repriever> "Hin's right. This is home."
  120. [21:25.22] <+Repriever> "But it is a little quieter than it should be."
  121. [21:25.39] <+Penumbra> "I know. I can feel it."
  122. [21:25.52] <+Penumbra> A void ignored still exists.
  123. [21:26.22] <+Repriever> "A hollow."
  124. [21:27.38] <+Repriever> "Mm."
  125. [21:27.43] <+Repriever> "Are you bringing the dragons onboard?"
  126. [21:28.13] * Penumbra shifts her tone "We have an idea where she might be."
  127. [21:28.13] <+Repriever> "We know that she can't see everything."
  128. [21:28.25] * Repriever goes quiet at that.
  129. [21:28.42] <+Penumbra> "I'll consult with her under starlight." she replies.
  130. [21:28.59] <+Repriever> "No better place."
  131. [21:29.32] * Repriever reaches for Madei's mobile.
  132. [21:29.35] <Hin> You get the sense, Repriever, that the 'she' Penny is referring to is...
  133. [21:29.40] <Hin> yes, her.
  134. [21:29.47] <+Repriever> [yes, I know]
  135. [21:31.05] * Repriever inhales, changing his expression to an empty happiness, and replaces the mobile before standing.
  136. [21:31.12] <+Repriever> "We have work to do."
  137. [21:31.23] <+Penumbra> "Do you remember my Lieutenant, Arita?"
  138. [21:31.41] <+Repriever> "I do. She laughed at me more than once."
  139. [21:31.58] * You are now known as DM
  140. [21:32.01] <DM> Canonically true.
  141. [21:32.16] <+Penumbra> She was like Penumbra's shadow, always with a writing tablet, a quick mind, and an easy laugh.
  142. [21:32.48] <+Penumbra> "Hin and I believe she might still... exist. Beneath the sealed cities."
  143. [21:33.41] <+Shala> "Sealed Cities? Did someone say Sealed Cities?"
  144. [21:33.45] * Shala evesdrops
  145. [21:34.08] <+Penumbra> [did you say that to yourself or us D=<]
  146. [21:34.14] <+Shala> [to both of you lol]
  147. [21:34.19] <DM> Shala is poking her head into Repriever and Penumbra's room.
  148. [21:34.19] * Repriever sees Shala spying through the open door.
  149. [21:34.27] <DM> She does live just across the hall, anyways.
  150. [21:34.32] * Penumbra turns around to see Shala's face right there
  151. [21:34.38] <+Penumbra> "Yes, indeed. I did."
  152. [21:34.48] * You are now known as Hin
  153. [21:34.52] <+Shala> "So we're going soon then, as soon as all the business here is concluded?
  154. [21:34.54] <+Shala> "
  155. [21:35.04] * Penumbra is glad she didn't share the other news first
  156. [21:35.06] <+Repriever> "But what do you mean she's in the cities?"
  157. [21:35.20] <Hin> "I did not find her soul in my queries of the ancestor spirits."
  158. [21:35.30] <Hin> "And Kallias...found a record, did he not?"
  159. [21:35.32] <+Penumbra> "I've learned from Kallias that there may be communities of Luvanashi at the Sealed Cities as well."
  160. [21:35.37] * Penumbra confirms
  161. [21:35.55] <+Repriever> "And she's alive?"
  162. [21:36.01] <Hin> "Mmmm."
  163. [21:36.02] <+Repriever> "After all these years?"
  164. [21:36.11] <Hin> "I would not say...alive."
  165. [21:36.16] <+Penumbra> "In a manner, you understand."
  166. [21:36.26] <Hin> "There are all manner of things she may have done with her soul."
  167. [21:36.33] <Hin> "She may be in an object."
  168. [21:36.40] <Hin> "Or similar to I."
  169. [21:36.53] * Penumbra steps to the side, back towards the wall, using body language to invite Shala to join in. Also, conveniently getting close to the door to close it if that's what's happening isntead
  170. [21:37.14] * Shala has thoughts of decripit time mages whiling away centuries in dementia
  171. [21:37.41] <+Repriever> "Are any others unaccounted for, Hin?"
  172. [21:37.45] <+Penumbra> "But her soul is free, not with the ancestors, nor under Apastron's grasp."
  173. [21:37.47] * Shala comes into the room, feeling a bit like a proper adult
  174. [21:39.11] <Hin> "None that I knew by name..."
  175. [21:39.31] <+Repriever> "Any other secrets?"
  176. [21:39.40] * Repriever smiles slightly.
  177. [21:39.40] <Hin> "It is not exactly safe to be in the shadow planes for long."
  178. [21:39.56] <Hin> "As it once was."
  179. [21:40.05] <+Shala> [i thought she was in the cities]
  180. [21:40.20] <Hin> [she is, Hin is just talking about his methods to find these things out]
  181. [21:40.23] <+Repriever> [her soul is]
  182. [21:40.41] <Hin> "And I must astral project there to ask these questions."
  183. [21:40.48] <+Penumbra> "We have spoken of the Endless Well before, and of the depths of void energy that exists there."
  184. [21:40.55] <+Repriever> "Couplet told us that the Apastron has dug up more of my old friends as well."
  185. [21:41.01] <Hin> Make a knowledge check, Shala.
  186. [21:41.04] <+Repriever> "I'm glad some of yours remain free."
  187. [21:41.19] <+Shala> ?roll 1d20+13
  188. [21:41.19] <%tBot> Shala: 24 ([11] +13)
  189. [21:41.45] <Hin> The Endless Well was an ancient rumored source of shadow energy deep beneath a Luvanashi tomb-city.
  190. [21:42.14] * Penumbra smiles sadly, knowing the horror that Palethorn had inflicted upon Repriever
  191. [21:42.19] <+Penumbra> "Hin believes that this energy may have attracted Apastron, and there he would find a seal."
  192. [21:42.35] <+Kir> [brb bathroom]
  193. [21:42.39] <+Repriever> "A seal?"
  194. [21:42.52] <+Shala> "How close is he to breaching it?"
  195. [21:42.54] <+Penumbra> "And unbeknownst to him, this seal would be a trap that redirects his attempts to unseal it, to strengthening it."
  196. [21:43.24] <+Repriever> "For what purpose?"
  197. [21:43.33] <+Penumbra> "To buy time."
  198. [21:43.38] <+Repriever> "What is behind that seal?"
  199. [21:43.44] <+Penumbra> "The Endless Well itself."
  200. [21:44.04] <+Repriever> "And with access to it?"
  201. [21:44.26] <+Penumbra> "He would be able to mold much of its vast energies with the void essense."
  202. [21:44.51] <+Repriever> "Eradicate life itself."
  203. [21:45.09] * Penumbra lets that sentance die in silence, before continuing
  204. [21:45.12] <Hin> "He would not need Astara's name to tear asunder the universe."
  205. [21:45.17] <Hin> "He could do it himself."
  206. [21:45.24] <Hin> "I suspect..."
  207. [21:45.29] * Repriever bites his lip.
  208. [21:45.49] * Repriever thinks about slamming a fist into Penumbra's desk, but doesn't want her to slam a fist into him.
  209. [21:46.08] <Hin> "I suspect Madei went to stop the Apastron."
  210. [21:46.18] <+Shala> "Oh no"
  211. [21:46.21] * Penumbra lets Hin present his own findings
  212. [21:46.22] <+Repriever> "She knew we would never allow it."
  213. [21:46.39] <+Repriever> "Dammit."
  214. [21:46.48] * Repriever grumbles.
  215. [21:46.54] <Hin> "The seal would bar one such as the Apastron..."
  216. [21:47.02] <Hin> "But not Umbrea herself."
  217. [21:47.08] <+Shala> "What is to stop Apastron from using the essence on her? Isnt that her...substance?"
  218. [21:47.15] <Hin> "And Madei, while not exactly Umbrea, presents quite a claim."
  219. [21:47.18] <+Repriever> "And what happens if she crosses that barrier?"
  220. [21:47.48] <Hin> "In her case, Apastron cannot harm her with the Essence."
  221. [21:48.00] <Hin> "It would be like a healing spell."
  222. [21:48.10] <Hin> "He would simply use positive energy on her if he wished to kill her."
  223. [21:48.10] <+Shala> "What about manipulation?"
  224. [21:48.36] <Hin> "Which, I am told, he can do."
  225. [21:48.40] * Repriever remembers how proud Madei was to be able to touch him without harming him.
  226. [21:48.46] * Shala conceives of it like a magnet to iron filings
  227. [21:49.04] <+Repriever> "He made a fucking show of it at Pyleth."
  228. [21:49.10] <Hin> "Beyond the Seal, there is much knowledge."
  229. [21:49.41] <Hin> "The ancient imperial catacombs, the bound tombs of the ancestors, and a portal to the shadow realm."
  230. [21:49.47] <Hin> "It was..."
  231. [21:49.56] <Hin> "A place Penumbra and I once explored."
  232. [21:50.04] <Hin> "A place where Umbrea was believed to dwell."
  233. [21:50.14] <Hin> "If Madei is following her heart, to learn about her past..."
  234. [21:50.19] <Hin> "There is no better place for her to go."
  235. [21:50.35] <+Repriever> "Calcis went down there to find the essence."
  236. [21:51.58] <+Repriever> "I'm not sure how deep the Five managed to go."
  237. [21:52.01] <+Shala> "Apparently, it was a real fun time."
  238. [21:52.21] * Shala furrows her brow and perks her eybrows as Calcis interjects words into her MIND
  239. [21:52.47] <+Repriever> "Do we need to follow in their footsteps once more?"
  240. [21:53.19] <+Shala> "The five never fought Kasatha"
  241. [21:53.34] <+Shala> "So this is untreaded ground, paladin"
  242. [21:53.40] <+Repriever> "Well, good. No one can say we didn't do it best."
  243. [21:54.18] <+Repriever> "You know, Cal. Some of this information would have been handy back then."
  244. [21:54.27] * Repriever says to the air vaguely around Shala.
  245. [21:56.14] * Repriever moves around the room aimlessly.
  246. [21:56.47] <Hin> "It was hoped that the Well would be sealed for all time."
  247. [21:57.04] <Hin> "And that we would return the Void Essence to it..."
  248. [21:57.10] <Hin> "But after Atris...fell..."
  249. [21:57.28] <Hin> "The Towers negotiated with the dragons for it."
  250. [21:57.40] * Repriever is too guilty to meet Penumbra's eyes.
  251. [21:57.50] <Hin> "It fell into the hands of the necromancers."
  252. [21:57.56] <Hin> "And from there, the Apastron."
  253. [21:58.20] <Hin> "How foolish of them!"
  254. [21:58.26] <+Shala> "Must have been some talented diplomats"
  255. [21:58.29] <+Repriever> "Mancers."
  256. [21:58.34] * Penumbra doesn't understand the significance of Repriever's avoided glance
  257. [22:00.52] <+Repriever> "So now we have a thousand angles to consider."
  258. [22:00.56] <+Repriever> "But only so much time."
  259. [22:01.12] <+Repriever> "I forgot how fun wars could be."
  260. [22:01.16] * Repriever says sarcastically.
  261. [22:01.38] <Hin> "Also."
  262. [22:01.49] <Hin> "You will be pleased to know that Carcephon is requesting audience."
  263. [22:01.59] <Hin> "With Vyriscine in attendance."
  264. [22:02.01] * Repriever exhales and rakes his hair.
  265. [22:02.32] <+Repriever> "Put on your best palatine face, Shala."
  266. [22:02.54] * Shala affects a blank faced stare
  267. [22:02.56] <+Shala> "How's that"
  268. [22:03.09] <+Repriever> "Yeah."
  269. [22:03.22] * Repriever gestures a reluctant "shall we".
  270. [22:03.34] * Penumbra nods
  271. [22:03.48] <+Penumbra> "Let's meet them then."
  272. [22:04.23] * Repriever gently halts Penumbra as she's leaving the room to add:
  273. [22:04.25] <Hin> [lol]
  274. [22:04.32] <Hin> [liking Shala's palatine face]
  275. [22:04.38] <+Repriever> "She'll probably say things to upset us."
  276. [22:05.02] <+Repriever> "Mind her Sight."
  277. [22:05.19] <+Penumbra> "They all do. And I will."
  278. [22:05.22] * Penumbra sets her face and nods
  279. [22:05.51] * Repriever departs with the mancer and the paladin.
  280. [22:07.52] <+Repriever> [scene?]
  281. [22:08.03] <Hin> Melchior, Kir.
  282. [22:08.07] <Hin> And Akvan!
  283. [22:08.14] <Hin> Hin informs you that Carcephon is here.
  284. [22:08.22] <Hin> In your case, Akvan, Carcephon informs you herself.
  285. [22:08.31] * Penumbra heads upstairs as several Hinnequins brings out a planning table for her map
  286. [22:08.31] * Akvan joins the others
  287. [22:08.42] * Mel finishes up her conversation with Vyrene.
  288. [22:08.55] * Mel comes out to join the others.
  289. [22:09.34] * Repriever is somewhat slower than Penumbra in ascending the steps.
  290. [22:09.41] * Penumbra doesn't rush
  291. [22:09.42] * Repriever makes it all the same.
  292. [22:10.55] <+Penumbra> +https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qaGaDhfGw4pcGRbnq6rDv09aZENjsuaTpKF1HAl_ZuQ/edit#gid=0,
  293. [22:10.59] <+Penumbra> [remember this, boys?]
  294. [22:11.08] <+Akvan> whoah
  295. [22:11.51] <+Repriever> [so we're meeting up top then]
  296. [22:12.12] <+Shala> [yea, protecting state secrets]
  297. [22:12.25] <Hin> When you reach the deck, the Reme is gliding, gently, on night winds around the pale white towers of the Citadel.
  298. [22:12.30] * Repriever is wearing the Calcissi court clothing, fitted black silk with silver accents. Nameless, as always, is belted to his hip.
  299. [22:12.34] <Hin> The galactic band stretches overhead.
  300. [22:12.50] <Hin> Hard to imagine that your enemies might one day emerge in hordes from that brilliant jewel-box.
  301. [22:12.55] <Hin> As numerous as the stars themselves.
  302. [22:13.02] <Hin> For now, it is a display of creation's majesty.
  303. [22:13.48] * Repriever silently prays as he walks across the deck.
  304. [22:13.50] <+Penumbra> What of the moon?
  305. [22:14.09] <Hin> On deck, Carcephon stands, clad in a night-blue fur cloak, a silver pendant with a blue jewel's egg necklace on her golden chest, showing a bit of cleavage but not much.
  306. [22:14.20] <Hin> The moon is a pale, silver crescent.
  307. [22:14.23] * Kir has a distant look as he ascends the stairs
  308. [22:14.26] <Hin> And it gives you strength.
  309. [22:14.30] <Hin> You feel it is waxing.
  310. [22:14.46] * Akvan bows slightly to her
  311. [22:14.57] <Hin> Vyriscine is hooded, but brings it down, violet eyes shining as she does.
  312. [22:15.12] <+Repriever> "The house of god."
  313. [22:15.15] * Akvan also bows to her, though slightly less
  314. [22:15.20] * Repriever says, as he opens his eyes.
  315. [22:15.35] * You are now known as Carcephon
  316. [22:15.45] <Carcephon> "Well, it seems I've captured the enemy flagship at last."
  317. [22:15.52] * Carcephon chuckles.
  318. [22:15.58] <Carcephon> "Or perhaps it's the other way around."
  319. [22:16.03] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  320. [22:16.14] * Vyriscine remains silent, a half-pace back, eyes darting curiously.
  321. [22:16.18] <+Penumbra> "A guest can be as easily a hostage, back in the day."
  322. [22:16.27] * Penumbra doesn't hesitate in the banter
  323. [22:16.36] <+Repriever> "A dragon bound is still a dragon."
  324. [22:17.11] * Kir leans against a railing
  325. [22:17.52] * You are now known as Carcephon
  326. [22:17.59] <+Mel> "Hello."
  327. [22:18.05] <Carcephon> "My sweet Akvan, you have such a lovely ship."
  328. [22:18.14] <Carcephon> "Thank you all for your hospitality."
  329. [22:18.40] * Akvan looks at penny
  330. [22:18.47] <+Repriever> "Taken advantage of as of late."
  331. [22:18.49] <+Akvan> "Not really mine in anyway."
  332. [22:18.52] * Penumbra looks at Carcephon
  333. [22:19.05] * Akvan remembers scratching a circled flame at the wood of the bow
  334. [22:19.13] * Carcephon remembers it, too.
  335. [22:19.35] <+Repriever> "I hope you've brought an army."
  336. [22:19.41] * Carcephon changes topic to: A Handful of Dust Session 87: Clattering Steps - +https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkTjmEpLrII,
  337. [22:20.43] <Carcephon> "Sapphis, my beautiful city of blue palaces, lies ransacked. All my libraries, pleasure gardens, terraced restaurants, ravaged by cruel blackskins."
  338. [22:21.04] <Carcephon> "I am not the type to fortify like a brute."
  339. [22:21.24] <+Penumbra> "You are welcome, Carcephon." [behind that]
  340. [22:21.29] <+Repriever> "You didn't see it coming?"
  341. [22:21.31] * Repriever jabs.
  342. [22:21.34] <+Mel> "You are not the only one to have been harmed."
  343. [22:21.34] <Carcephon> "Nonetheless, I have extracted fifteen thousand soldiers from the ashes, and my other towns."
  344. [22:21.41] * Carcephon smiles.
  345. [22:21.43] <+Penumbra> "But Lakhmul does. You brought the map of his city's defenses?"
  346. [22:21.45] <+Mel> "So we have common ground in that."
  347. [22:21.54] <Carcephon> "Of course I saw it coming."
  348. [22:22.16] <Carcephon> "To see something coming and to avoid it are two entirely different circumstances."
  349. [22:22.26] <Carcephon> "There are paths where my city stands, shining, and I lie dead."
  350. [22:22.37] <Carcephon> "A perfect prize for one of my siblings to claim."
  351. [22:22.46] <Carcephon> "At any rate."
  352. [22:22.50] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  353. [22:22.55] <Vyriscine> "I also brought some people."
  354. [22:23.00] <Vyriscine> "Three thousand."
  355. [22:23.16] <+Repriever> "Soldiers or scholars?"
  356. [22:23.43] <Vyriscine> "Each of them can summon plenty of people to throw rocks or whatever it is you soldiers do."
  357. [22:23.56] <+Repriever> "There is a time for hurling stones."
  358. [22:24.26] <+Akvan> "Forgive me for interupting... but, perhaps, could envoys be sent to the Fallen angels of Ilia? Some actively hunt us,to be sure, but many simply seem lost, needing new direction, a new fire."
  359. [22:25.35] <+Penumbra> "And how many would we face come morning?"
  360. [22:25.41] * You are now known as Carcephon
  361. [22:25.43] * Repriever cycles his arm through earth and fire, then back to stars.
  362. [22:25.55] <Carcephon> "The treasure city of Zarmahl..."
  363. [22:26.14] <Carcephon> "Is likely to hold at least a hundred thousand defenders."
  364. [22:26.21] <+Repriever> "Oh, only?"
  365. [22:26.35] <Carcephon> "With the ability to gate in another hundred thousand reinforcements within the first day."
  366. [22:26.38] * Repriever paces to not feel stuffed up.
  367. [22:26.54] <+Kir> "So how do we stop reinforcement
  368. [22:26.55] <+Kir> "
  369. [22:27.19] * Carcephon produces the map and lays it out on the table.
  370. [22:27.23] <Carcephon> +https://i.imgur.com/sSBEzvh.png,
  371. [22:27.30] <Carcephon> [I'll give this a bit more detail in the coming week]
  372. [22:27.33] <+Repriever> "Anchor the city."
  373. [22:27.51] <+Repriever> "We might be able to prevent gating with the essences."
  374. [22:28.05] <Carcephon> "It is a large city, one of the most prosperous in the Empire."
  375. [22:28.42] <Carcephon> "Lakhmul has built a vast set of sea-walls along a string of barrier islands south along the bay."
  376. [22:28.44] * Kir_ (uid63846@ealing.irccloud.com) has joined channel #nesdnd
  377. [22:29.21] <+Repriever> "What is the situation on the ground? Civilians? Human slaves?"
  378. [22:29.34] <+Repriever> "Can we not simply drown the golden vermin?"
  379. [22:29.39] <Carcephon> "Only partially to pretect against assault, it allows him to tightly regulate the incoming trade as well as religious pilgrims, and tax them heavily."
  380. [22:29.43] * Penumbra is satisfied to let Repriever ask the questions
  381. [22:30.09] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  382. [22:30.36] <Vyriscine> "There are weather-control wards set into each of the towers."
  383. [22:30.59] <Vyriscine> "An Essence-created tidal wave from outside the city would be neutralized, but you have two options."
  384. [22:31.08] * Repriever shifts his arm to the cool waters of Lethe.
  385. [22:31.29] <Vyriscine> "One, break enough of the towers that the system, which has some redundancies, goes down entirely."
  386. [22:32.17] <Vyriscine> "Or two, get inside the walls and then use the Essence to flood the city with the waters of the bay."
  387. [22:32.20] * You are now known as Carcephon
  388. [22:32.28] <+Repriever> "That does not answer my question on civilians. We cannot massacre innocents."
  389. [22:32.37] <Carcephon> "Yes, there would be significant civilian casualties in that circumstance."
  390. [22:33.08] <+Repriever> "How long will his princes carry on once the Unblemished is dead?"
  391. [22:33.33] <Carcephon> "The city is designed with each quarter like spokes on a wheel, with Lakhmul's central palace, surrounded by a moat and several more layers of walls, as the hub."
  392. [22:33.43] <Carcephon> "It is a tower tall enough to rival the mages, and he is still expanding it."
  393. [22:33.55] <Carcephon> "Obviously someone feels the need to compensate."
  394. [22:34.06] * Kir (8da1853b@ircip2.mibbit.com) Quit (Quit: +http://www.mibbit.com, ajax IRC Client)
  395. [22:34.23] * Repriever stops pacing near Vyriscine.
  396. [22:34.24] <Carcephon> "But it is somewhat efficiently designed, for maximum extraction of tribute and display of his glory."
  397. [22:34.38] * Carcephon points out each of the quarters, going clockwise.
  398. [22:34.46] <+Repriever> "Should I cut your brother's throat, how fast will his empire crumble?"
  399. [22:34.58] <+Repriever> "Can his children be made to surrender?"
  400. [22:35.07] <Carcephon> "His great golden lighthouse stands taller than all but the palace, and each of the quarters has their own golden light-tower, to be both miniature citadel, watchtower, and temple alike."
  401. [22:35.14] <Carcephon> "Quickly, and yes."
  402. [22:35.22] <Carcephon> "The Lighthouse Quarter,"
  403. [22:35.26] <Carcephon> "The Port Quarter."
  404. [22:35.35] <Carcephon> "The Pilgrims' Quarter."
  405. [22:35.58] <Carcephon> "The Priests' Quarter."
  406. [22:36.08] <Carcephon> "The Treasure Quarter."
  407. [22:36.15] <Carcephon> "The Craftsmen's Quarter."
  408. [22:36.19] * Repriever pokes a finger full of blue fire across the map.
  409. [22:36.29] <Carcephon> "and here," she finishes. "The Slaves Quarter."
  410. [22:36.38] <+Repriever> "Your brother's greed is his weakness. He can be goaded out of his hold."
  411. [22:36.43] * Shala mumbles something about how there should only be four quarters
  412. [22:36.56] <Carcephon> "So the majority of the human population is crowded into slums here, in the southeast."
  413. [22:37.00] <+Repriever> "How many ships still sail into his harbor?"
  414. [22:37.11] <+Repriever> "Caravans from the land?"
  415. [22:37.35] <+Repriever> "If we destroy those, cut him off. He will have to answer."
  416. [22:37.41] <Carcephon> "I suspect with the war, many fleets will have taken shelter in the inner harbor."
  417. [22:38.24] <+Repriever> "We take away the things that he loves, as he did to me."
  418. [22:38.32] <+Repriever> "His wealth, his respect."
  419. [22:39.08] <+Repriever> "An initial strike can do more damage to his morale than a direct siege."
  420. [22:39.17] <+Repriever> "We need him to be reckless."
  421. [22:39.59] <Kir_> “Possible strategy: we take out weather towers, then threaten to call tsunami”
  422. [22:40.11] <Kir_> “We place entire city, all treasures, under existential threat”
  423. [22:40.22] * Mel seems quiet, pondering something.
  424. [22:40.42] * Repriever agrees with Kir.
  425. [22:40.58] <+Repriever> "He won't stand to have his hoard threatened."
  426. [22:41.21] <+Repriever> "We need to make a statement. A serious one."
  427. [22:41.36] <Carcephon> "Hm.."
  428. [22:41.57] <Carcephon> "How strong are your weather wards, Vyriscine?"
  429. [22:42.00] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  430. [22:42.08] <Vyriscine> "Are you kidding?"
  431. [22:42.15] <Vyriscine> "I build to last, okay."
  432. [22:42.27] <Vyriscine> "And Lakhmul pays."
  433. [22:42.42] * You are now known as Carcephon
  434. [22:42.46] * Carcephon looks at Shala.
  435. [22:42.56] <Carcephon> "But we don't just have an Essence of Water..."
  436. [22:43.13] * Carcephon sets mode +v Kir_ for #nesdnd
  437. [22:43.43] <Carcephon> "What if we combined the two?"
  438. [22:44.00] <+Repriever> "We get electrocuted."
  439. [22:44.03] * Repriever says flatly.
  440. [22:44.11] <+Mel> "Oh, combining essences. That's going to need a bigger container."
  441. [22:44.22] * Mel takes out her journal and starts sketching.
  442. [22:44.35] * Mel mumbles about needing a new journal, only three pages left.
  443. [22:44.37] <Carcephon> "What if we combine a tidal wave with a whirling tornado."
  444. [22:45.03] <+Repriever> "A hurricane."
  445. [22:45.15] <Carcephon> "At the least, it will be a potent distraction."
  446. [22:45.20] * You are now known as Vyriscine

  449. [22:45.31] <Vyriscine> "If you can keep it up."
  450. [22:45.39] <+Penumbra> "Does he know which essenses we hold?"

  454. [22:46.15] <Carcephon> "I suspect he felt them."
  455. [22:46.51] <+Repriever> "You don't happen to have any of his sons or daughters do you?"
  456. [22:46.55] * Shala (IceChat9@cpe-97-98-83-80.stx.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
  457. [22:47.00] * Shala_ is now known as Shala
  458. [22:47.20] <Carcephon> "I have a small suggestion."
  459. [22:47.52] <Carcephon> "There is one asset which we have not yet considered."
  460. [22:48.18] <Carcephon> "Penumbra, Melchior, do I have your permissions to open a gate?"
  461. [22:48.30] <Carcephon> "I wish to summon an ally."
  462. [22:49.00] <+Repriever> "Hold on."
  463. [22:49.10] <+Repriever> "What kind of ally?"
  464. [22:49.18] <+Penumbra> "Where, and when?"
  465. [22:49.21] * Carcephon smiles.
  466. [22:49.23] <Carcephon> "Here. Now."
  467. [22:49.26] <Carcephon> "One you trust."
  468. [22:49.53] <+Mel> "Who?"
  469. [22:50.10] <+Mel> "I would need to inform the rest of the council here, they're reasonably on-edge already."
  470. [22:50.38] <Carcephon> "One who must be at this war council, and will supply more forces than myself and Vyriscine combined."
  471. [22:50.44] <Carcephon> "Illian the White."
  472. [22:50.55] <+Repriever> "Another dragon."
  473. [22:51.08] <Shala> "We're collecting them all, after all"
  474. [22:51.12] <Carcephon> "He has abandoned Ekrat, and brought his armies south."
  475. [22:51.12] * Akvan nods
  476. [22:51.14] <+Repriever> "Can this deck hold the weight of your personalities?"
  477. [22:51.15] <+Akvan> "He should be here"

  481. [22:52.09] * You are now known as Carcephon
  482. [22:52.22] <Carcephon> "There were very few paths that led us to getting two allies."
  483. [22:52.28] * Mel rubs her forehead.
  484. [22:52.30] * Penumbra feels a familiar tenseness at the thought
  485. [22:52.45] <+Mel> "Last we saw him, the situation was rather tense."
  486. [22:53.04] * Repriever regrets being out of armor.
  487. [22:53.07] <+Kir_> “I liked him...”
  488. [22:53.08] <+Mel> "I will not see harm brought to the citadel if he comes."
  489. [22:53.12] * Kir_ adds timidly
  490. [22:53.20] <Carcephon> "He would never."
  491. [22:53.31] <Carcephon> "I'm far more likely to do something bad than he is."
  492. [22:53.32] * Carcephon grins.
  493. [22:53.45] <Carcephon> "Kidding, kidding."
  494. [22:54.30] <Carcephon> "Illian has forty thousand effectives under his personal command that aren't tied down in other battles."
  495. [22:55.00] <Carcephon> "Added to our forces, that is almost sixty."
  496. [22:55.14] <+Repriever> "Sixty against two hundred thousand."
  497. [22:55.22] <+Repriever> "Closer to Azhedat by the minute."
  498. [22:55.36] <+Mel> "More relevantly, we know that these battles are not won by raw numbers."
  499. [22:55.44] <Carcephon> "And the forces of our First Warden, from the Citadel."
  500. [22:55.59] <+Mel> "And our own party."
  501. [22:56.06] <Carcephon> "Our troops will have more battle experience and be of higher quality."
  502. [22:56.37] <Carcephon> "And we can manipulate those numbers with illusions, as well."
  503. [22:56.42] <Carcephon> "Can we not."
  504. [22:56.43] <+Repriever> "His soldiers were never the best, even back then. He just had a shit ton of them."
  505. [22:57.00] <Carcephon> "He has certain advantages."
  506. [22:57.15] <Carcephon> "Each of the quarters has a flame temple, a small citadel anchoring the district defenses."
  507. [22:57.34] <Carcephon> "The closer his troops fight to their redoubts, the stronger the flames in their hearts will be."
  508. [22:57.50] <+Repriever> "Is there nothing a divine can do?"
  509. [22:58.00] * Repriever asks her blueness.
  510. [22:58.06] <+Penumbra> "Does he have a sewer system, and running water beneath his districts?"
  511. [22:58.11] <+Mel> "Well we've got several skilled illusionists among ourselves, and the equipment to make illusions all the stronger."
  512. [22:58.19] <Carcephon> "I sacrificed...nine tenths of my power, just to make it here."
  513. [22:58.23] <Carcephon> "It will recover."
  514. [22:58.28] <Carcephon> "But not in one night."
  515. [22:58.47] <+Repriever> "Then Vyriscine and Illian must breathe into their children."
  516. [22:58.59] <+Repriever> "I've not been on the end of that in a long time."
  517. [22:59.07] <Carcephon> "Our advantage is also this."
  518. [22:59.08] <+Repriever> "But we need it, to make our numbers up."
  519. [22:59.13] <+Akvan> "Does Illian know of your new status?"
  520. [22:59.26] <+Akvan> "is that something to be kept from him?"
  521. [22:59.30] <Carcephon> "Zarmahl is massive."
  522. [22:59.42] <Carcephon> "Its walls are miles and miles long, stretching far out into the sea."
  523. [22:59.54] <Carcephon> "The garrison, even as large as it is, will be spread out."
  524. [23:00.28] <Carcephon> "And yes, there is a sewer system."
  525. [23:01.00] <Carcephon> "Punching through quickly will allow us to reach the citadel through force concentration alone."
  526. [23:01.07] <Carcephon> "Furthermore..."
  527. [23:01.26] <Carcephon> "If Illian challenges Lakhmul, directly, in his place of power..."
  528. [23:01.32] <Carcephon> "He must respond."
  529. [23:01.37] <Carcephon> "He will respond."
  530. [23:01.48] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  531. [23:01.50] * Vyriscine nods at this.
  532. [23:02.00] <Vyriscine> "Yeah, that would eat at him."
  533. [23:02.06] <+Repriever> "So why should we bother joining? Let them fight it out."
  534. [23:02.21] * You are now known as Carcephon
  535. [23:02.24] <+Repriever> "Illian is a giant, sharp toothed predator."
  536. [23:02.25] * Akvan frowns at Repriever
  537. [23:02.33] <Carcephon> "Two reasons."
  538. [23:02.44] <Carcephon> "Illian on his own will die."
  539. [23:03.01] <Carcephon> "He will make a brave attempt, but fail."
  540. [23:03.11] <Carcephon> "Second."
  541. [23:03.11] <+Mel> "And leaving potential allies to die, when all of this is with the goal of having the greatest power on our side when the ultimate foe comes, is folly."
  542. [23:03.18] <Carcephon> "You need his word, regardless."
  543. [23:03.26] * Akvan nods approvingly at Mel
  544. [23:03.30] <+Repriever> "Forgive me, but I want the Unblemished to know I'm coming for him."
  545. [23:03.39] <Carcephon> "I think this."
  546. [23:04.07] <Carcephon> "Lakhmul's palace is the source of his richest treasures and his pride and sense of superiority."
  547. [23:04.34] <Carcephon> "Whether his vault contains the word or not, if you can sack his palace and loot his treasure, he will come."
  548. [23:05.04] <+Repriever> "So we have to give him mercy for the word?"
  549. [23:05.17] <Carcephon> "Feel free to confirm my divinations, Melchior."
  550. [23:05.23] <Carcephon> "Of course."
  551. [23:05.28] <Carcephon> "But you can just kill him, after."
  552. [23:05.29] <+Shala> [ +https://media.giphy.com/media/VKtsOAHDx1Luo/200.gif, ]
  553. [23:05.34] <+Repriever> "He gave my men none."
  554. [23:06.14] <Carcephon> "Or perhaps bind him inside a pair of shoes."
  555. [23:06.23] <Carcephon> "One I can wear every day for the rest of my life."
  556. [23:06.50] <+Penumbra> "The technique you used to restore your life, how did you come by it? Is it known to Lakhmul?"
  557. [23:07.09] <Carcephon> "'How?"
  558. [23:07.18] <Carcephon> "By studying you of course, Penumbra."
  559. [23:07.28] <Carcephon> "And many others, over the years."
  560. [23:07.31] <+Penumbra> ... *narrows eyes*
  561. [23:07.49] <Carcephon> "The art of phylactery is an ancient necromantic practice."
  562. [23:08.03] <Carcephon> "But, more than that..."
  563. [23:08.09] <Carcephon> "The Divines possess a special power."
  564. [23:08.22] <Carcephon> "To divide ourselves into separate beings, and recombine."
  565. [23:08.28] <Carcephon> "We are more than mortal."
  566. [23:08.43] <Carcephon> "We are each, ourselves, and another self."
  567. [23:08.47] <+Repriever> "Did you plan to tell us about this?"
  568. [23:08.55] <Carcephon> "Of course. I'm telling you right now."
  569. [23:09.01] <Carcephon> "I wouldn't be telling you if I hadn't planned it."
  570. [23:09.13] * Repriever hates how right she is.
  571. [23:09.58] <+Repriever> "Echoes."
  572. [23:10.04] * Carcephon looks at Penumbra.
  573. [23:10.10] * Penumbra has accepted this
  574. [23:10.12] <Carcephon> "You trust me least, Penumbra."
  575. [23:10.16] <Carcephon> "Of course."
  576. [23:10.20] <Carcephon> "I killed you."
  577. [23:10.28] <+Penumbra> "I tried."
  578. [23:10.43] <Carcephon> "But in the moment that I killed you, I also saw the moment where we sit, right now, today."
  579. [23:11.07] <Carcephon> "I didn't need an old Atris, at peace with herself, ready to move on to the spirit world."
  580. [23:11.14] <Carcephon> "I needed Penumbra, reborn."
  581. [23:11.47] * Repriever doesn't like the tone of this.
  582. [23:12.04] <Carcephon> "Which is why I let Artan adventurers make away with Atrament, to be passed down through a long line of oracles, and one day be given away..."
  583. [23:12.09] <Carcephon> "Regardless."
  584. [23:12.14] <Carcephon> "I am sorry for what I had to do."
  585. [23:12.25] * Penumbra did not expect this
  586. [23:12.30] <Carcephon> "It was necessary, and you more than any should understand that."
  587. [23:12.54] * Mel whistles.
  588. [23:12.56] <+Repriever> "You take away her free will."
  589. [23:13.00] <+Repriever> "And mine."
  590. [23:13.21] <+Penumbra> "Your knowledge of the future binds you as much as it frees you, Carcephon."
  591. [23:13.27] <+Repriever> "I don't like long plans and divinations."
  592. [23:13.30] <Carcephon> "We are all slotted, every second of our lives, into paths that are predetermined by choices that most of you do not fully understand."
  593. [23:13.35] <Carcephon> "Of course it does."
  594. [23:13.47] * Repriever gives Mel a quick look too.
  595. [23:13.51] <Carcephon> "Which is why I want nothing, more...than to be free."
  596. [23:13.58] <Carcephon> "True freedom, can you imagine."
  597. [23:14.04] <Carcephon> "So rare."
  598. [23:14.11] * Carcephon smiles, wistfully, looking up at the stars.
  599. [23:14.21] <+Repriever> "She has given us that."
  600. [23:14.28] * Mel gives a 'free will's an odd thing' look to Repriever.
  601. [23:14.31] * Carcephon chuckles, long and warmly.
  602. [23:14.48] <Carcephon> "Yes, Astara has given us quite a few things."
  603. [23:14.56] <Carcephon> "My father hates her so."
  604. [23:15.32] <+Repriever> "I am not a slot in some diviners ledger."
  605. [23:15.45] * Repriever says softly.
  606. [23:15.55] <Carcephon> "No, no."
  607. [23:16.05] <Carcephon> "You were entirely unnoticed."
  608. [23:16.26] <Carcephon> "You could be anything, the epitome of freedom."
  609. [23:16.33] <Carcephon> "I'm sure that's why she chose you."
  610. [23:16.44] <Carcephon> "But you know, we don't really have that much time to discuss this."
  611. [23:16.53] <Carcephon> "Can I bring Illian, or not?"
  612. [23:17.04] <Carcephon> "You're the First Warden, Mel, you decide."
  613. [23:17.11] * Repriever is disturbed a little.
  614. [23:17.38] <+Mel> "Let him be brought here."
  615. [23:17.45] <Carcephon> "Excellent!"
  616. [23:17.47] <+Mel> [Any representatives here?]
  617. [23:17.55] <+Mel> [Anyone I can pass advance warning to?]
  618. [23:18.03] <+Penumbra> [/me is ok with this]
  619. [23:18.05] <Carcephon> [You can pass warning through Amutat most likely]
  620. [23:18.26] <+Mel> [I bring a third dragon, Amutat, let all be prepared.]
  621. [23:19.03] <Carcephon> Amutat gives a brief chirp of conveyance.
  622. [23:19.05] * Repriever needs to step away from their map table to get a breath of fresh air.
  623. [23:20.00] <Carcephon> "Vyriscine, a little help?"
  624. [23:20.03] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  625. [23:20.08] <Vyriscine> "Funny, you've never asked for that before."
  626. [23:20.15] * Vyriscine joins hands with her sister.
  627. [23:20.30] * Penumbra takes a step back, mind whirling with thought
  628. [23:20.49] <Vyriscine> The speak a word, together, in Draconic, as purple and blue flames dance like St. Elmo's Fire on the deckfloor.

  632. [23:22.39] <Vyriscine> An ironshod boot clamps down on the deckfloor.
  633. [23:23.17] <Vyriscine> Clad in a rough, brown, tattered desert cloak, his steel under that covered in blood and scorched with flame, his neat white beard streaked with blood and sweat.
  634. [23:23.19] * Repriever turns an ear that direction, but otherwise tries to remain collected by the deck railing.
  635. [23:23.23] * You are now known as Illian
  636. [23:23.33] <Illian> Three dragons, now, and the aura is somewhat intense.
  637. [23:23.48] * Akvan nods at Illian
  638. [23:23.50] <Illian> "You have given me a busy day, Akvan."
  639. [23:24.01] <+Akvan> "And you gave me an empty one"
  640. [23:24.08] <+Shala> [jesus it's been one day]
  641. [23:24.11] * Illian bows.
  642. [23:24.32] <Illian> "I am sorry."
  643. [23:24.44] <Illian> "Your voices stripped from me my shell, leaving only power."
  644. [23:24.54] <Illian> "As I told you, I seek to control."
  645. [23:25.11] <Illian> "But you showed me the power of letting loose, once in a while."
  646. [23:25.16] * Illian smiles, slightly.
  647. [23:25.19] <+Akvan> "I have heard you have begun to fight again."
  648. [23:25.21] * Repriever concentrates on nullifying their fear auras with his own.
  649. [23:25.28] <+Akvan> "I am happy to have reminded you who you are."
  650. [23:25.35] <Illian> "Yes."
  651. [23:25.39] * Illian strides over to him.

  655. [23:25.47] <Illian> "You ARE the one that was chosen."
  656. [23:25.52] * Illian reaches out a hand to clasp with his.
  657. [23:25.58] <Illian> "I am convinced of that now."
  658. [23:26.05] * You are now known as Carcephon
  659. [23:26.13] * Carcephon watches this with a raised eyebrow.
  660. [23:26.17] * You are now known as Illian
  661. [23:26.27] <Illian> "You are lucky, sister. Would that you had been one of my sons."
  662. [23:26.42] * Repriever wonders if Illian is going to get on his knees to kiss his sister's ass while he's at it.
  663. [23:27.18] <Illian> "Tell me, Carcephon."
  664. [23:27.29] * Kir_ remains watching
  665. [23:27.30] <Illian> "What is our place in your ascension?"
  666. [23:27.50] * You are now known as Carcephon
  667. [23:28.02] <Carcephon> "That is yours to decide."
  668. [23:28.08] * Repriever snorts.
  669. [23:28.33] * You are now known as Illian
  670. [23:28.37] <Illian> "Repriever."
  671. [23:28.50] <+Repriever> "White Prince."
  672. [23:28.54] <Illian> "Have you ever gotten the sense, that perhaps, our sister does not tell us everything she knows."
  673. [23:29.38] <+Repriever> "The divine owes us none of its secrets."
  674. [23:29.42] <+Mel> "She knows too much to say."
  675. [23:29.48] * You are now known as Carcephon
  676. [23:29.58] <Carcephon> "My sister divine, as always, has the right of it."
  677. [23:30.15] <Carcephon> "All happens according to God's plan."
  678. [23:30.18] <Carcephon> "And God is good."
  679. [23:30.20] * Carcephon smiles.
  680. [23:30.25] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  681. [23:30.37] <Vyriscine> "Get ON with it, you smug serpent."
  682. [23:30.45] * You are now known as Illian
  683. [23:30.58] <Illian> "Akvan, what is our strategy?"
  684. [23:31.20] <+Mel> [Oh, Vy has s-word priveliges.]
  685. [23:31.33] <+Repriever> [she's street]
  686. [23:31.42] <Illian> "My main force now camps near the Roah estuary, in position to strike where they may."
  687. [23:31.42] * Akvan smiles at Illian
  688. [23:31.47] <+Shala> [heat slugs D: ]
  689. [23:31.56] <+Akvan> "We eliminate our enemies one by one."
  690. [23:32.12] <+Repriever> "You're all fascinating creature when you're not eating my friends."
  691. [23:32.16] <+Repriever> [creatures]
  692. [23:32.20] <+Akvan> "First, those within our own house, and then those without"
  693. [23:32.32] <Illian> "A wise choice."
  694. [23:32.38] <Illian> "Is it to be Zarmahl, then?"
  695. [23:32.46] * Illian looks at the unrolled map.
  696. [23:33.07] <Illian> "Human allies, lend your voices."
  697. [23:33.16] <+Repriever> "I would think you'd know better than to ask a boy from the Wastes how to conduct a major military campaign."
  698. [23:33.28] <Illian> "I have pledged my troth to the end."
  699. [23:33.57] * Illian smiles.
  700. [23:34.01] <+Penumbra> "Your question imply there are other choices, Illian."
  701. [23:34.03] <+Mel> "I believe that our party will be part of this spearhead that enters the city."
  702. [23:34.10] <Illian> "Thinking I knew better was my folly."
  703. [23:34.14] * Illian hmms.
  704. [23:34.20] <+Mel> "I have a small force of knights of my own, but they may well be outmatched in this combat."
  705. [23:34.25] <Illian> "Striking directly at the Imperial City would be a secondary option."
  706. [23:34.43] <+Repriever> "I intend to repay your brother. Blood for blood."
  707. [23:34.45] * Akvan shoots an insulted look to the Old Knight. I'll have you know, I conducted raids against rival tribes!
  708. [23:34.58] <+Repriever> "He has attempted deicide most recently."
  709. [23:34.59] <Illian> "But you know full well, Penumbra, how that can be a death trap to even the most well-equipped force."
  710. [23:35.06] <+Repriever> "A crime I cannot abide."
  711. [23:35.19] * Akvan is amuesd by that irony. I"m sure Carcephon is as well
  712. [23:35.25] <+Penumbra> "And it would not have the desired effect as striking Lakhmul's own."
  713. [23:35.31] * Penumbra nods
  714. [23:35.40] <Illian> "I do not think we move against Kharvalath until Lakhmul and Zathindra are both neutralized."
  715. [23:35.53] * Repriever has not lost the irony of his statement.
  716. [23:36.04] <Illian> "So, this is the Citadel."
  717. [23:36.07] <+Repriever> "Where is the Black?"
  718. [23:36.11] <Illian> "Quite a thing, you humans have built."
  719. [23:36.18] <+Repriever> "If she joins him in battle we would be turned."
  720. [23:36.25] * You are now known as Carcephon
  721. [23:36.27] * Shala rolls her eyes
  722. [23:36.38] <Carcephon> "I haven't seen her anywhere."
  723. [23:36.57] <Carcephon> She's hiding.
  724. [23:37.00] <Carcephon> " "*
  725. [23:37.13] <+Repriever> "Can you not sniff her out?"
  726. [23:37.15] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  727. [23:37.23] <Vyriscine> "I agree with the metal man."
  728. [23:37.29] <Vyriscine> "You can see where she will be."
  729. [23:37.38] <+Repriever> "Metal man?"
  730. [23:37.52] <Vyriscine> "Oh, I'm sorry. Do you have flesh under all that armor?"
  731. [23:37.55] <Vyriscine> "I'd love to see."
  732. [23:38.06] <Vyriscine> "Immortal flesh always fascinates."
  733. [23:38.18] <Vyriscine> "Oh, but I will, I will. I have the samples."
  734. [23:38.23] <+Kir_> “I say we go for Lakhmul”
  735. [23:38.27] <Vyriscine> "Patience patience."
  736. [23:38.28] <+Penumbra> [he's wearing his court robes?]
  737. [23:38.32] <+Repriever> [yes]
  738. [23:38.36] <+Kir_> “Take the treasure”
  739. [23:38.42] <+Repriever> "What the fuck does that mean?"
  740. [23:38.49] * Repriever says to the last of her lines.
  741. [23:38.55] <Vyriscine> "Palatines."
  742. [23:39.02] * Repriever approaches Vyriscine.
  743. [23:39.22] <+Repriever> "What are you planning with my hair?"
  744. [23:39.38] <Vyriscine> "I'm not referring to your physical armor."
  745. [23:39.48] <Vyriscine> "You've been protecting them this whole time, haven't you."
  746. [23:39.54] <Vyriscine> "From our auras."
  747. [23:39.58] <+Repriever> "Always."
  748. [23:40.09] <+Repriever> "You're a strain on my heart."
  749. [23:40.17] <+Repriever> "Ugly, violent things."
  750. [23:40.27] <Vyriscine> "It's the flesh of your mind I find curious."
  751. [23:40.32] <+Repriever> "They don't need to feel that."
  752. [23:40.40] <Vyriscine> "Mmm."
  753. [23:40.45] <Vyriscine> "Well we can talk about what I'll do later."
  754. [23:40.52] <Vyriscine> "It won't be ready for years, regardless."
  755. [23:41.08] * You are now known as Carcephon
  756. [23:41.16] <Carcephon> "Vyriscine, if you could be slightly less creepy, I'd appreciate it."
  757. [23:41.24] <+Repriever> "Yes, please."
  758. [23:42.14] <+Mel> "Spend a few decades wearing human shoes, does wonders for diplomacy with us little ephemeral squishy-skinned things."
  759. [23:42.34] * You are now known as Illian
  760. [23:42.34] <+Repriever> "We are allies now, Vyriscine."
  761. [23:42.44] <Illian> "So your goal is to take the treasure."
  762. [23:42.50] * Repriever says threateningly.
  763. [23:43.00] <+Mel> "We need only the word."
  764. [23:43.05] <+Mel> "The treasure's just a means."
  765. [23:43.14] <+Shala> ""We could also destroy it"
  766. [23:43.17] <+Mel> "A means to draw pitched conflict."
  767. [23:44.29] <Illian> "He always boasted of having locked his word in his vault."
  768. [23:44.39] <+Repriever> "Our goal is to break the empire and reforge it."
  769. [23:44.46] <Illian> "Perhaps a ruse."
  770. [23:44.57] <+Repriever> "To free the slaves and liberate the people in time for a worse tide of violence."
  771. [23:45.16] <+Repriever> "To prepare for tomorrow."
  772. [23:45.29] <Illian> "Hm."
  773. [23:45.42] <Illian> "The walls of Zarmahl are not easily breached."
  774. [23:45.52] <Illian> "But this is an interesting point."
  775. [23:46.15] <Illian> "If they were to be breached in the southeast, in the Slaves' Quarter, you could lead an uprising."
  776. [23:46.27] <Illian> "Of course, if the slaves rise up in the midst of a pitched battle, many will die."
  777. [23:46.34] <Illian> "But Lakhmul is not well loved among his slaves."
  778. [23:46.42] <+Repriever> "We do not need to destroy the city if we can help it. Not all who live within are our enemy."
  779. [23:47.03] <+Repriever> "And the walls will do well in the wars to come."
  780. [23:47.05] <Illian> "Mmm."
  781. [23:47.20] <Illian> "Lakhmul possesses so much treasure, it cannot fit in his palace alone."
  782. [23:47.35] <Illian> "Striking from the north, directly into the Treasure Quarter, would do the most damage to his funds."
  783. [23:48.04] <Illian> "You can continue south, fly across the moat, and enter the citadel."
  784. [23:48.18] <Illian> "His vault lies beneath, and you would have to fight your way down."
  785. [23:48.24] <Illian> "I do not envy that battle."
  786. [23:49.02] * Repriever shrugs.
  787. [23:49.20] * Repriever is still standing near enough Vyriscine so she can feel weird about it.
  788. [23:49.36] <+Penumbra> "Vyriscine, you said your wards would dissipate the waters that might strike from sea. Are they outward facing, or do they cover the entire city?"
  789. [23:49.51] <+Mel> "It'd be odd for them to be purely outward-facing."
  790. [23:49.56] <+Mel> "That seems like a vulnerability."
  791. [23:50.16] <Illian> "I will keep Lakhmul busy if he appears."
  792. [23:50.25] <Illian> "I do not want him trapping you in his vault."
  793. [23:50.44] <Illian> "If the word is there, your mission is complete."
  794. [23:50.53] <+Repriever> "And why not simply defeat him together?"
  795. [23:50.57] <+Repriever> "Force him to tell us."
  796. [23:51.12] <Illian> "He is a coward."
  797. [23:51.20] <Illian> "He will flee if he thinks the day lost."
  798. [23:51.30] <Illian> "He strong, but a coward."
  799. [23:51.50] * You are now known as Carcephon
  800. [23:52.00] <Carcephon> "We must time this carefully enough that Lakhmul thinks he can win."
  801. [23:52.32] <+Repriever> "Easy. Done that before."
  802. [23:53.04] <+Repriever> "The hard part is making sure he doesn't bring your sister in."
  803. [23:53.11] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  804. [23:53.14] <Vyriscine> "So..."
  805. [23:53.27] * Repriever eyes her hard.
  806. [23:53.30] <Vyriscine> "The wards face outwards, and also project a dome over the top of the city."
  807. [23:53.55] <+Repriever> "If we run into Zathindra down in the vaults..."
  808. [23:54.16] <Vyriscine> "Technically they would repel water washing against them from the inside, too, but..."
  809. [23:54.51] <Vyriscine> "If the source of the weather is INSIDE the city, the city itself would be in danger, and the walls the only thing that was safe."
  810. [23:55.02] <Vyriscine> "Never thought that would happen, obviously."
  811. [23:55.08] <+Penumbra> "I was not thinking of using the waters within the wards against them."
  812. [23:55.20] * Penumbra leans over the battle map, pointing at the harbor and the moat
  813. [23:55.30] <Vyriscine> "Those COULD be used."
  814. [23:55.35] <Vyriscine> "There's no defense against that."
  815. [23:55.35] <+Repriever> "And we know how much your kind like to get wet."
  816. [23:55.42] <+Penumbra> "There's enough water here to form a dome over his Citadel."
  817. [23:55.50] <Vyriscine> "Ooooh!"
  818. [23:55.52] <Vyriscine> "Yes, there is!"
  819. [23:56.10] * Vyriscine chuckles.
  820. [23:56.22] <Vyriscine> "You could also make it, like..."
  821. [23:56.25] <Vyriscine> "SUPER water."
  822. [23:56.33] <Vyriscine> "Or acid!"
  823. [23:56.39] <Vyriscine> "You can make it terrible to pass through."
  824. [23:57.13] * Repriever hmms and walks around.
  825. [23:57.22] * You are now known as Illian
  826. [23:57.23] <Illian> "So."
  827. [23:57.42] <+Penumbra> "We could use it before Lakhmul comes, to repel his army and to issue our challenges. Or we could use it after, to trap him within and with us."
  828. [23:58.05] <Illian> "At the least, if Zathindra is waiting inside the vaults, you will not have to face them both."
  829. [23:58.30] * Penumbra nods
  830. [23:58.49] * You are now known as Carcephon
  831. [23:58.53] <Carcephon> "Zathindra can be beaten."
  832. [23:59.01] <+Repriever> "She's an animal."
  833. [23:59.07] <Carcephon> "Calcis beat her."
  834. [23:59.14] <Carcephon> "You have the Essence of Air."
  835. [23:59.15] <+Repriever> "Calcis was... good."
  836. [23:59.20] <Carcephon> "You have the Spear of Calcis."
  837. [23:59.26] <Carcephon> "You have Calcis herself."
  838. [23:59.42] <Carcephon> "I do see that...it is possible that Zathindra will be there."
  839. [23:59.50] <Carcephon> "Although she also may not."
  840. [23:59.55] <Carcephon> "Depending on how the battle before goes."
  841. [00:00.37] <+Repriever> "You've been plotting against your siblings long enough to know their weaknesses. What's hers?"
  842. [00:00.41] <+Mel> "If it is close enough to seem that we can be beaten, perhaps."
  843. [00:01.08] <Carcephon> "She likes to keep close."
  844. [00:01.14] <Carcephon> "She's very physical."
  845. [00:01.21] <+Repriever> "Will she hold to a scale oath?"
  846. [00:01.34] <Carcephon> "She uses her magic, rarely, but her breath casts an oily cloud that is impenetrable to sight."
  847. [00:01.34] * Repriever says with a concerned glancing around.
  848. [00:02.12] <+Penumbra> "There are other ways to See, how many does it block?"
  849. [00:02.13] <Carcephon> "Some...but not yours."
  850. [00:02.15] <+Shala> "I can summon a platoon to keep her at range, scatter her clouds with the essence..."
  851. [00:02.34] <Carcephon> "If you can keep her at range, hold her down, keep barriers between you and her, you can wear her down."
  852. [00:02.52] <Carcephon> "Then when she is weakened, surround her and don't let her be mobile."
  853. [00:02.56] <Carcephon> "She is...incredibly fast."
  854. [00:03.01] * Shala nods, having about 4 ways to create annoying barriers
  855. [00:03.19] <+Mel> "I have wrestled a dragon before, but it was definitely past its prime."
  856. [00:03.20] <Carcephon> "She will try to kill the weak ones first."
  857. [00:03.21] <+Repriever> [as you all remember, a scale oath is a thing dragonkin have. I called one on Andrathagora to keep him from killing the party in session 5]
  858. [00:03.44] <Carcephon> "Zathindra is difficult to See...because..."
  859. [00:03.51] <Carcephon> "She makes decisions in the moment, on a whim."
  860. [00:03.58] <Carcephon> "She doesn't know what she's going to do."
  861. [00:04.06] <Carcephon> "She is unpredictable even to herself."
  862. [00:04.09] <Carcephon> "Really quite interesting."
  863. [00:04.29] <+Penumbra> "That might make her easily tempted to overextend."
  864. [00:05.03] <Carcephon> "Also..."
  865. [00:05.09] <Carcephon> "She's always naked."
  866. [00:05.17] <Carcephon> "You should know that."
  867. [00:05.24] <Carcephon> "It disturbs most humans immensely."
  868. [00:05.25] <+Repriever> "So are wolves."
  869. [00:05.48] <Carcephon> "She can shift into her greater form, of course."
  870. [00:05.50] <+Repriever> "I don't worry for myself."
  871. [00:05.55] <+Shala> "Life or death dulls that immodesty a bit"
  872. [00:05.56] <+Repriever> "But for them."
  873. [00:05.59] * Repriever looks to the party.
  874. [00:06.17] <Carcephon> "If she gets you alone, run before you die."
  875. [00:06.26] <Carcephon> "Only a few of you can stand against her for very long."
  876. [00:06.26] <+Mel> "Fight as a group, then."
  877. [00:06.36] <Carcephon> "And I don't mean run with your feet."
  878. [00:06.39] <Carcephon> "Teleport."
  879. [00:07.03] <+Shala> "I am a telemancer, I know when to teleport. Always."
  880. [00:07.18] * Repriever is contemplative.
  881. [00:07.22] <Carcephon> "And what about your boyfriend?"
  882. [00:07.32] <+Shala> "He's fast."
  883. [00:07.34] * Shala shrugs
  884. [00:07.44] <Carcephon> "Give him a way to teleport."
  885. [00:07.54] <Carcephon> "Or she'll kill him cruelly and taunt you with it to make you slip."
  886. [00:08.08] * Shala flusters
  887. [00:08.12] <+Shala> "She'll be preoccupied"
  888. [00:08.12] <Carcephon> "I've seen her doing that in multiple ways."
  889. [00:08.23] <Carcephon> "You should listen to me."
  890. [00:08.25] <+Repriever> "Flayed children."
  891. [00:08.29] * Repriever says distantly.
  892. [00:08.38] * Akvan closes his eyes
  893. [00:08.54] <Carcephon> "He promised her violence, of course."
  894. [00:09.05] <Carcephon> "An outlet for her rage."
  895. [00:09.24] <Carcephon> "This world delivered her more joy than she could have ever hoped for."
  896. [00:09.32] <Carcephon> "It's fun to her."
  897. [00:09.34] <Carcephon> "It's a game."
  898. [00:10.05] <+Repriever> "Elydia suffered her play."
  899. [00:10.10] <Carcephon> "If you can get both of their words in one battle, then it's over."
  900. [00:10.18] <+Repriever> "But also all of yours."
  901. [00:10.19] <Carcephon> "The way to the Father is opened."
  902. [00:10.34] <Carcephon> "Elydia will be restored, Repriever."
  903. [00:10.47] <Carcephon> "Do you think I did not like Elydia, in my way?"
  904. [00:10.55] <Carcephon> "Father wanted it destroyed."
  905. [00:11.08] <Carcephon> "We had no choice but to help him."
  906. [00:11.22] <Carcephon> "Or he would do the same to us."
  907. [00:11.28] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  908. [00:11.30] <Vyriscine> "Yep."
  909. [00:11.30] <+Repriever> "It's amusing to see you all wear our skin and speak our tongue."
  910. [00:11.46] <Vyriscine> "Well, we can't exactly fit on the boat, otherwise."
  911. [00:11.58] <+Repriever> "But you don't need to fear your father."
  912. [00:12.06] <+Mel> "There's a difference between aping an aesthetic and protecting the people who created it."
  913. [00:12.33] <+Repriever> "Astara has given you her blessing."
  914. [00:12.37] <Vyriscine> "I've worked for long years to bring about a resolution to this war."
  915. [00:12.41] <Vyriscine> [says Carcephon]
  916. [00:12.44] * You are now known as Carcephon
  917. [00:12.51] <+Repriever> "You are through Her beyond him."
  918. [00:13.05] <Carcephon> "To kill Kharvalath the Red."
  919. [00:13.26] <Carcephon> "And all who serve his violent designs."
  920. [00:13.42] <Carcephon> "But the only way I could do that was to serve him, for a time."
  921. [00:13.49] <Carcephon> "And well enough to gain his confidence."
  922. [00:13.56] <+Kir_> “What will happen once we kill Red?”
  923. [00:14.12] <Carcephon> "Akvan..."
  924. [00:14.21] <Carcephon> "Has the tools to become a conduit for his power."
  925. [00:14.38] <Carcephon> "He must use the Essence of Water, at the exact moment I instruct."
  926. [00:14.56] <Carcephon> "He must have complete faith."
  927. [00:15.00] <Carcephon> "And then."
  928. [00:15.13] <+Akvan> "And then...?"
  929. [00:15.19] <Carcephon> "The throne of Flame will be restored."
  930. [00:15.32] <+Mel> "Quenched and lit again, in a new vessel?"
  931. [00:15.39] <Carcephon> "I shall take upon myself the power that Kharvalath and Ilia, together, once had."
  932. [00:15.46] <Carcephon> "Before they were divided."
  933. [00:15.54] <Carcephon> "I shall have the power to be a true divine."
  934. [00:16.00] <Carcephon> "Beyond time, and space."
  935. [00:16.10] * Akvan glances at repreiver
  936. [00:16.21] <+Repriever> "What?"
  937. [00:16.24] * Repriever says to Akvan.
  938. [00:16.45] <+Repriever> "It wasn't up to me."
  939. [00:16.50] * Carcephon watches them, curiously.
  940. [00:17.12] <+Akvan> "Just curious as to your reaction."
  941. [00:17.24] <Carcephon> "Repriever loves me in his way."
  942. [00:17.29] <Carcephon> "He will not fight the new order."
  943. [00:17.35] <Carcephon> "As it will give him what he has long desired."
  944. [00:18.01] <+Repriever> "Promises, promises."
  945. [00:18.05] * You are now known as Illian
  946. [00:18.10] <Illian> "You are preferable to our father."
  947. [00:18.19] <Illian> "I wish to live in greater harmony with humanity."
  948. [00:18.26] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  949. [00:18.33] <Vyriscine> "I agree, mostly."
  950. [00:18.40] <+Repriever> "There is no justice."
  951. [00:18.44] * Repriever quotes Calcis.
  952. [00:18.53] * You are now known as Carcephon
  953. [00:18.59] <Carcephon> "No," she agrees.
  954. [00:19.02] <Carcephon> "But there can be peace."
  955. [00:19.30] * Repriever considers the map.
  956. [00:19.38] <+Repriever> "Not yet."
  957. [00:19.42] <+Mel> "And even if there is not a permanent peace, existence is preferable to oblivion."
  958. [00:20.20] <+Repriever> "Not always, Mel."
  959. [00:20.35] <+Akvan> "The peace cannot be dictated, though."
  960. [00:20.41] <+Akvan> "It must come from all sides"
  961. [00:22.01] <+Repriever> "In this and all things, we serve the divines."
  962. [00:22.51] * Mel resists rolling her eyes a bit at that mantra.
  963. [00:23.04] <Carcephon> "You see why Astara approved of my plan."
  964. [00:23.09] <Carcephon> "It restores the balance."
  965. [00:23.13] <Carcephon> 'She knew that."
  966. [00:23.29] <+Repriever> "We still have far to go."
  967. [00:23.43] <Carcephon> "Yes."
  968. [00:23.53] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  969. [00:24.03] <Vyriscine> "In particular, we need to go scare the shit out of these towerborn tomorrow."
  970. [00:24.10] <Vyriscine> "And make them give us their toys."
  971. [00:24.13] <+Repriever> "And you."
  972. [00:24.16] * Repriever says to Vyr.
  973. [00:24.22] <Vyriscine> "Hmmmmmn?"
  974. [00:24.28] <+Repriever> "We're gonna have a talk."
  975. [00:24.48] <Vyriscine> "No thanks!"
  976. [00:24.57] * Vyriscine edges backwards.
  977. [00:25.21] * Penumbra steps to Vyriscine's other side
  978. [00:25.23] <+Mel> "They're not giving us their toys. We're here to see Amutat, as per our agreement."
  979. [00:25.37] <+Mel> "Any toy-givin' past that is entirely at the council's volition."
  980. [00:26.08] * Repriever steps to Vyr.
  981. [00:26.18] <Vyriscine> "Okay, okay, personal space."
  982. [00:26.31] * Vyriscine puffs into a puff of smoke, and then reappears on the other side of the deck.
  983. [00:26.34] <+Repriever> "Experiments don't sit well with me."
  984. [00:26.48] <Vyriscine> "Yeah, I gathered."
  985. [00:26.52] <+Mel> "They're how we learn though."
  986. [00:27.00] <Vyriscine> "Yeah, listen to your divine!"
  987. [00:27.03] <+Mel> "Sometimes you have to test things out before you try 'em in the field."
  988. [00:27.11] <Vyriscine> "Or just test for fun."
  989. [00:27.22] <+Repriever> "And some men with mandibles for mouths might disagree."
  990. [00:27.27] * Repriever says to Mel.
  991. [00:27.27] <+Mel> "That's how I get kidnapped by Kallos' goons."
  992. [00:27.43] <Vyriscine> "Well, you know what they say."
  993. [00:27.47] <+Mel> "Well that's also a very different sort of experimentation."
  994. [00:27.53] <Vyriscine> "Sometimes you win, sometimes you get turned into a mantis-man."
  995. [00:27.55] <+Mel> "That's just plain old modification."
  996. [00:28.09] <+Mel> [the good news is we now get to fight an army of mantis-men]
  997. [00:28.35] <Vyriscine> "My uh, experiments are going to keep you alive tomorrow."
  998. [00:28.40] * Repriever doesn't find this amusing.
  999. [00:29.02] * You are now known as Illian
  1000. [00:29.05] <Illian> "Vyriscine."
1001. [00:29.20] <Illian> "They are seeking assurances that you will not do experiments that will violate their code of values."
1002. [00:29.31] <Illian> "Grant them, or leave this alliance."
1003. [00:29.49] * You are now known as Vyriscine
  1004. [00:29.52] <Vyriscine> "I'll TRY."
  1005. [00:30.03] <+Penumbra> "Make sure you do."
1006. [00:30.05] <+Repriever> "You want to study my flesh and bones, ask."
1007. [00:30.14] <+Repriever> "But never work behind my back."
  1008. [00:30.26] <Vyriscine> "So, hypothetically."
1009. [00:30.33] <Vyriscine> "Raising a child that is a copy of you, would be..."
  1010. [00:30.34] <Vyriscine> "Wrong."
  1011. [00:30.46] * Vyriscine fidgets.
  1012. [00:30.48] <Vyriscine> "For you."
1013. [00:30.55] * Repriever inhales so, so deeply.
1014. [00:31.02] <Vyriscine> "I just wanted to see if it was immortal, okay?"
  1015. [00:31.14] <+Akvan> "Repriever loves children."
  1016. [00:31.18] <Vyriscine> "Because that's...pretty useful."
1017. [00:31.54] <+Repriever> "If immortality was transferable then Calcis' children would still be alive."
  1018. [00:31.58] <Vyriscine> "I wasn't going to like, eat it."
  1019. [00:32.09] <Vyriscine> "Well..."
  1020. [00:32.16] <Vyriscine> "This is a bit different from having a child."
  1021. [00:32.27] <Vyriscine> "When you have a child, you're making something new."
1022. [00:32.32] <Vyriscine> "This would be more like a twin."
  1023. [00:32.47] <Vyriscine> "With different memories, obviously."
1024. [00:32.51] <+Mel> "Well, sometimes I bring in copies of myself from parallel timelines."
  1025. [00:32.59] <+Mel> "Similar result, short-term at least."
  1026. [00:33.00] <Vyriscine> "Exactly! See, it's fine."
  1027. [00:33.16] <+Repriever> "You're not allowed to grow a new me."
  1028. [00:33.25] * Vyriscine groans.
1029. [00:33.43] <+Repriever> "But if your tinkering can save lives, I'll give you what you need."
1030. [00:34.03] <Vyriscine> "Apparently I can't even make an immortal race of undying warriors..."
  1031. [00:34.08] <Vyriscine> "People don't understand PROGRESS."
  1032. [00:34.21] <Vyriscine> "But FINE."
  1033. [00:34.23] <+Mel> "Depends on the implications."
1034. [00:34.31] <+Mel> "Are they happy being immortal undying warriors?"
1035. [00:34.39] <+Mel> "And are they making life awful for everyone else?"
  1036. [00:34.52] <Vyriscine> "Well I'M not happy, that's for sure."
  1037. [00:34.59] <Vyriscine> "Whatever. I'll see you people tomorrow."
1038. [00:35.02] <+Penumbra> "People understand dignity, and when it's taken away form them."
  1039. [00:35.09] * Repriever swallows.
1040. [00:35.36] <+Penumbra> "Mind your experiments, Vyriscine. We'll see you tomorrow."
1041. [00:35.49] * Vyriscine grumbles and puffs into a small purple falcon which soars out over the deck.
  1042. [00:35.49] * Akvan smiles at vyr
1043. [00:35.54] * You are now known as Carcephon
1044. [00:35.55] <+Mel> "Also, if you would wish to meet Amutat. Perhaps now would be an appropriate time."
1045. [00:36.12] <Carcephon> The purple falcon wings its way around the Reme and perches on the railing.
1046. [00:36.18] * You are now known as Vyriscine
1047. [00:36.50] <Vyriscine> "Eh, it's fine. I'll do it after our council meeting when your Abjurer friends see I'm not going to strip it for parts."
  1048. [00:37.03] <+Mel> "It's a date."
1049. [00:37.08] <Vyriscine> "I've got stuff to make for tomorrow anyway."
  1050. [00:37.09] <Vyriscine> "Ciao."
  1051. [00:37.14] * Vyriscine flutters off.
1052. [00:37.47] * You are now known as Carcephon
1053. [00:37.54] <Carcephon> "She really is the weird one."
  1054. [00:38.14] <Carcephon> "But I'm fond of her."
1055. [00:38.18] * You are now known as Illian
  1056. [00:38.22] <Illian> "She is often helpful."
  1057. [00:38.33] * Repriever has a worried expression.
  1058. [00:39.12] <+Repriever> "You're all a handful."
  1059. [00:39.16] <Illian> "My thought is this."
1060. [00:39.28] * Mel checks some things in her journal, which she has been intermittently sketching in for the last while.
  1061. [00:40.16] <Illian> "We will succeed tomorrow."
1062. [00:40.26] <Illian> "Regardless of the outcome of the battle."
1063. [00:40.41] <Illian> "It will be the first time humans and dragons have fought as equals."
1064. [00:40.52] * Mel smiles and looks up from her book.
1065. [00:41.02] <+Mel> "I hope it may be a sign of things to come."
1066. [00:41.11] * Repriever seeks the stars above.
1067. [00:41.13] * Penumbra breaths out and nods hopefully
1068. [00:41.17] <+Akvan> "It WILL be a sign of things to come."
  1069. [00:41.22] * Akvan says decisively
  1070. [00:41.39] <Illian> "Prince Penumbra Katadei."
  1071. [00:41.41] * Shala stares blankly ahead
1072. [00:41.52] <Illian> "I am honored to fight at your side as well."
1073. [00:42.09] * Illian kneels, before her, his tattered battle-torn cloak brushing the Reme's deck.
1074. [00:42.21] * Repriever is having a day full of surprises.
1075. [00:42.26] <Illian> "I am sorry for the dishonor the war invoked upon us both."
1076. [00:42.56] <Illian> "I have nothing but respect for you, and all of your great accomplishments."
  1077. [00:43.29] * Illian stands.
1078. [00:43.30] <+Penumbra> "Illian the White, I am honored to fight at yours."
1079. [00:44.00] <+Repriever> "Carcephon kicked a hole in my stomach. This is better."
1080. [00:44.20] <Illian> "One does, sometimes, need a hole kicked in one's stomach."
1081. [00:44.30] * You are now known as Carcephon
  1082. [00:44.40] <Carcephon> "Akvan kicked a hole in his heart's stomach, obviously."
1083. [00:44.46] <Carcephon> "Our stern white prince, softening in his old age."
  1084. [00:45.15] * Carcephon changes topic to: A Handful of Dust Session 87: Clattering Steps - +https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A9H4uiaFsA,

1086. [00:45.31] <Illian> "There is youth and vigor left in me yet, older sister."
1087. [00:45.46] <Illian> "It shall be shown, come the morrow."
  1088. [00:47.10] <+Repriever> "Tomorrow we're killing your brother."
1089. [00:47.27] <Illian> "If it can be done, I salute his death."
1090. [00:47.37] <Illian> "His arrogance, greed, and cowardice have doomed him."
  1091. [00:47.40] <+Repriever> "It is long overdue."
1092. [00:47.46] <Illian> "If I strike the final blow myself, so be it."
1093. [00:48.18] <+Repriever> "I thought I could get to him, many years after the war was lost."
  1094. [00:48.26] <+Repriever> "But I could not."
1095. [00:48.33] <Illian> "He would never let a human that close."
  1096. [00:48.45] <Illian> "Not in trust."
1097. [00:48.59] <Illian> "He is strong and cunning, but that is all that can be said."
1098. [00:48.59] <+Repriever> "It is better this way."
  1099. [00:49.11] <+Repriever> "I am a palatine not a thief in the night."
1100. [00:49.16] <Illian> "Divines, noble lords, I must organize my men. I will gate, under cover, to north of the city, attempting to remain unseen."
1101. [00:49.45] <Illian> "I will also diversionary assaults in other cities of the Empire to lead Lakhmul and any potential reinforcements astray."
1102. [00:49.52] <Illian> [he uses 'men' in the vaguest sense here]
  1103. [00:50.03] <Illian> [also order*]
  1104. [00:50.16] <+Repriever> "So be it."
  1105. [00:50.23] <+Repriever> "White Prince."
  1106. [00:50.32] * Illian turns.
  1107. [00:50.35] <Illian> "Palatine."
1108. [00:50.38] * Mel gives an affirmative nod.
1109. [00:51.08] <+Repriever> "May the stars guide you, Illian."
1110. [00:51.25] <Illian> "Let Akvan be the true restoration of this flame."
1111. [00:51.47] * Illian stamps his swordhilt on the ground, and vanishes in a brief column of white fire.
1112. [00:51.58] * You are now known as Carcephon
1113. [00:52.10] <Carcephon> "So, do I get to sleep in one of these cozy cabins, Penumbra?"
1114. [00:52.35] <+Akvan> "I can show you to mine, It's all set up. I can make camp out here on the deck"
1115. [00:52.38] <+Akvan> "Look up at the stars."
  1116. [00:52.44] <Carcephon> "Akvan!"
  1117. [00:52.48] <Carcephon> "You are so hospitable!"
  1118. [00:53.01] * Akvan smiles
  1119. [00:53.03] <+Repriever> "Afraid he's incorrect."
1120. [00:53.03] <Carcephon> "But you need not camp."
1121. [00:53.18] <Carcephon> "I can fit into very tight spaces."
1122. [00:54.00] <Carcephon> "Repriever! You shouldn't speak for the women. It's very rude, you know."
  1123. [00:54.09] * Kir_ raises his eyebrows
1124. [00:54.16] <+Repriever> "A divine such as yourself should not be bound within the walls of a ship."
  1125. [00:54.25] <Carcephon> "Oh, I see."
1126. [00:54.35] <Carcephon> "Did you not spend any nights within the walls of this ship with Astara?"
  1127. [00:54.55] * Mel kittyfaces
  1128. [00:54.56] * Carcephon 's smile grows almost imperceptibly.
1129. [00:55.14] <+Repriever> "She is a divine very much unlike yourself."
  1130. [00:55.23] * Repriever smiles back.
1131. [00:55.29] <Carcephon> "Well, we're all very unlike each other."
  1132. [00:55.37] <Carcephon> "But I am a divine rather like Mel, am I not?"
  1133. [00:55.42] <Carcephon> "Corporeal, for the moment?"
1134. [00:55.46] <Carcephon> "SHE seems to sleep here!"
  1135. [00:56.07] <Carcephon> "Are we not all...divines, friends, allies?"
  1136. [00:56.14] <Carcephon> "I cannot understand...why I might be excluded."
  1137. [00:56.28] <+Repriever> "Wel.."
  1138. [00:56.41] <Carcephon> "Exactly!"
  1139. [00:56.44] <+Repriever> "If you must."
1140. [00:56.49] <+Shala> "We're used to you as a trinket or piece of jewelry"
1141. [00:56.56] <+Repriever> "Try not to be too loud with Akvan. Some of us need to sleep."
  1142. [00:57.02] <+Repriever> "There's a war tomorrow."
  1143. [00:57.15] <Carcephon> "I wouldn't dream of it."
1144. [00:57.21] <Carcephon> "His cabin is right next to yours, isn't it?"
  1145. [00:57.31] <+Repriever> "Unfortunately."
1146. [00:57.33] <+Mel> "If you want to sleep here, I'm fine with that, but it ain't my ship."
  1147. [00:57.37] <+Mel> "Penny?"
1148. [00:58.41] * Carcephon watches Penumbra with wide, innocent eyes.
1149. [00:59.22] * Akvan whispers "the silence is damning"
1150. [00:59.23] <+Penumbra> "You are welcome to spend the night in Akvan's room, Carcephon. I will be reviewing the defenses as discussed."
  1151. [00:59.33] <+Penumbra> [just checking a few things]
  1152. [00:59.46] * Carcephon sketches a bow in imitation of Illian's.
  1153. [00:59.47] * Repriever sighs.
1154. [00:59.59] * Penumbra directs Akvan towards the central stairs
1155. [01:00.05] <+Repriever> "You get everything you want, don't you?"
1156. [01:00.09] <Carcephon> "Oh my! And this must be the quarterdeck."
  1157. [01:00.13] * Carcephon gasps
1158. [01:00.19] <Carcephon> "And you must be Hin!"
1159. [01:00.23] * You are now known as Hin
  1160. [01:00.23] <+Penumbra> [Central stairs]
1161. [01:00.29] * Repriever looks to Mel incredulous.
1162. [01:00.39] * Hin says this to the ship at large.
1163. [01:00.42] <+Penumbra> [Wow did she just walk behind me after I pointed out where she can go]
  1164. [01:00.46] <Hin> Carcephon*
  1165. [01:00.46] * Penumbra is not pleased
1166. [01:00.53] * You are now known as DM
1167. [01:00.55] * Penumbra just got walked through
1168. [01:01.02] <DM> We can say she said it to one of the mannequins
  1169. [01:01.08] <DM> And followed your directions :p
  1170. [01:01.14] <DM> Up to you.
  1171. [01:01.19] <+Penumbra> [okie dokie]
1172. [01:01.26] * You are now known as Hin
1173. [01:01.31] <Hin> "Your powers of perception precede you."
1174. [01:01.41] * You are now known as Carcephon
  1175. [01:01.58] <Carcephon> "How perspicacious."
  1176. [01:02.06] * Mel shrugs.
1177. [01:02.30] <Carcephon> "Akvan, are you going to show me your cabin?"
1178. [01:02.38] <Carcephon> "Oh, I really do want to see everything, though."
1179. [01:02.47] <Carcephon> "But of course, not to intrude."
1180. [01:02.50] * You are now known as DM
1181. [01:03.06] <DM> A cluster of Knights of Melkir's hands drift down towards their weapons and up again as she passes.
1182. [01:03.37] * Penumbra makes it clear with her gaze that a tour is not in the cards tonight - if she wants to talk, she can talk plans or talk past
  1183. [01:03.38] * Akvan leads the way
1184. [01:03.46] <+Penumbra> [lol, would that be intimidate?]
  1185. [01:03.53] <DM> Yeah.
  1186. [01:03.57] <+Penumbra> ?roll 1d20+9
  1187. [01:03.57] <%tBot> Penumbra: 19 ([10] +9)
  1188. [01:04.17] <+Repriever> [can I assist]
  1189. [01:04.27] <DM> Sure.
1190. [01:04.29] <DM> She doesn't stray too far or poke her nose anywhere but where Akvan leads her.
1191. [01:04.35] <DM> Until the door to their cabin is closed.
1192. [01:04.40] * Akvan looks around his room. Nothing's changed since last he was in here, right?
  1193. [01:04.42] <+Repriever> ?roll 1d20+6
  1194. [01:04.42] <%tBot> Repriever: 12 ([6] +6)

1197. [01:04.53] <DM> The erhu, in the corner.
  1198. [01:04.57] <DM> The little porthole.
1199. [01:04.58] * Akvan goes to the erhu
  1200. [01:05.03] * Akvan picks it up
1201. [01:05.06] * Repriever has that same intense blankness to him that Shala imitated.
1202. [01:05.09] * Akvan sits, crosslegged in the middle of the room
  1203. [01:05.11] * Akvan strums
  1204. [01:05.19] <DM> Carcephon, well.
  1205. [01:05.24] <DM> We'll get back to that later.

1209. [01:05.35] * Akvan flinches, tunes the instrument
  1210. [01:05.47] * Akvan strums again
  1211. [01:05.52] <+Akvan> ?roll 1d20+8

1216. [01:06.10] * Carcephon breathes on the strings.
1217. [01:06.21] <Carcephon> "They will never go out of pitch again."
  1218. [01:06.36] <+Akvan> "Thank you"
1219. [01:06.40] <Carcephon> "Just one of many, many gifts..."
  1220. [01:06.46] <+Akvan> "Many"
  1221. [01:06.55] <Carcephon> "I hope to offer."
1222. [01:06.56] * Repriever gives Penumbra a concerned and annoyed look in the hall.
1223. [01:07.11] * You are now known as Hin
1224. [01:07.16] <Hin> "We can still kill her."
  1225. [01:07.22] <Hin> "There's still time."
1226. [01:07.47] <+Repriever> "Let the boy be mindless a little longer."
  1227. [01:07.51] * Repriever sighs.
1228. [01:07.58] <+Penumbra> "She is perched on the Throne of Fire. Who would take her place?"
  1229. [01:08.02] * Hin sighs as well.
1230. [01:08.24] <Hin> "Fire is not fantastic for someone who is made entirely of wood."
  1231. [01:08.34] <+Repriever> "I won't be able to sleep."
  1232. [01:08.41] <+Penumbra> "I don't sleep."
1233. [01:08.52] <Hin> "Repriever, I will cast the strongest silence spell I can on all of your rooms."
1234. [01:08.56] <+Repriever> "Her aura will affect everyone on board if I let my guard down."
1235. [01:09.40] * You are now known as Ironrose
1236. [01:09.48] * Ironrose bursts into the hall.
  1237. [01:09.51] <Ironrose> "Repriever!"
  1238. [01:10.01] <+Repriever> "Yes?"
1239. [01:10.06] * Repriever is tired at the thought.
  1240. [01:10.32] <Ironrose> "Kallias is coming."
1241. [01:10.38] <Ironrose> "He sent me an urgent message."
  1242. [01:10.45] <+Mel> "That's always fun."
1243. [01:10.53] <+Repriever> "Why would he come here?"
  1244. [01:10.57] <Ironrose> "I could only hear his code."
  1245. [01:11.10] <+Repriever> "Spit it out."
1246. [01:11.15] <Ironrose> "He said he had dire news to relate personally."
  1247. [01:11.37] <+Repriever> "Personally."
  1248. [01:11.42] <Ironrose> "I can't imagine why he doesn't trust the stones."
  1249. [01:11.47] <Ironrose> "That must be it."
1250. [01:11.47] * Mel ponders further sarcasm and decides against it.
1251. [01:11.57] * Repriever looks to the shut door of Akvan's room.
  1252. [01:12.13] <+Repriever> "She can't see her sister."
1253. [01:12.28] <+Penumbra> [what if Zathindra is in Akvan's room]
  1254. [01:12.35] <+Repriever> [then he's not having fun]
1255. [01:12.44] <+Repriever> [are those moans of pleasure or agony?]
1256. [01:12.51] <+Penumbra> [getting a hole kicked in your stomach is a common draconic greeting]
  1257. [01:13.30] <+Repriever> "Kallias wouldn't leave his duties."
1258. [01:13.33] <Ironrose> "He's requesting permission to open a portal to the Tower of the Elydians."
  1259. [01:13.50] <+Repriever> "No."
  1260. [01:13.56] <+Repriever> "Kallias wouldn't do that."
1261. [01:14.03] <+Repriever> "He sealed the Gate behind us."
  1262. [01:14.22] <Ironrose> "So...you think someone took his stones?"
1263. [01:14.23] <+Mel> "Perhaps we could go to a tertiary location."
  1264. [01:14.26] <Ironrose> "And is impersonating him?"
1265. [01:14.48] <Ironrose> "There aren't any direct gates here that can be opened without Amutat's clearance."
1266. [01:14.51] <+Repriever> "There was something in the room with him when we came through the gate to Ekrat."
  1267. [01:15.12] <Ironrose> "..."
1268. [01:15.17] <+Repriever> "Do not give him Kallias permission to gate in."
  1269. [01:15.23] <+Repriever> [give kallias*]
  1270. [01:15.33] <Ironrose> "Actually."
1271. [01:15.37] <Ironrose> "He told me to do something..."
  1272. [01:15.42] <+Repriever> "What?"
1273. [01:15.48] <Ironrose> "If something like this ever happened."
1274. [01:16.02] <Ironrose> "To add a code word to the end of my message, and if he replies with the correct response, it is really him."
  1275. [01:16.18] <+Repriever> "Send it."
1276. [01:16.37] * Ironrose grabs the stones, and starts tapping out a message as quickly as she can, as the sparks fly.
  1277. [01:17.27] * Repriever waits anxiously.
1278. [01:17.28] <Ironrose> "Only Kallias, Whitelay, or Plainchant had the ability to message me directly."
1279. [01:17.48] <Ironrose> "Any of those three could have their pairs attuned to mine."
  1280. [01:17.53] <Ironrose> "If only I knew which..."
1281. [01:18.20] * Ironrose waits, and a response taps out.
1282. [01:18.22] <+Repriever> "Plainchant gave me a new set, but I don't know how to use them."
1283. [01:18.56] * Ironrose waits, until the tapping stops.
  1284. [01:19.09] * Ironrose looks up, slowly.
  1285. [01:19.20] <Ironrose> "It's not him."
  1286. [01:19.29] <+Repriever> "Penumbra."
1287. [01:19.42] <+Repriever> "Help me with my armor."
1288. [01:19.52] <+Mel> "Which brings the question: what is impersonating him, and why?"
  1289. [01:20.07] <+Repriever> "It doesn't matter what it is!"
1290. [01:20.10] <Ironrose> "Something is not right in Tetraea."
1291. [01:20.15] * Repriever says from the cabin.
1292. [01:20.18] * Penumbra nods and goes to get them
1293. [01:20.40] * Repriever strips out of his clothing and slams on his armor as fast as the two of them can manage.
  1294. [01:20.47] <+Penumbra> "Would Carcephon know?"
  1295. [01:20.57] <+Repriever> "Let's find out."
1296. [01:21.00] * Penumbra says as she straps on a shoulder plate
1297. [01:21.09] <Ironrose> There is the sound of soft erhu playing from the room.
  1298. [01:21.11] <+Akvan> ?roll 1d20+8
  1299. [01:21.11] <%tBot> Akvan: 18 ([10] +8)
1300. [01:21.17] <+Mel> "We could attempt to divine it."
1301. [01:21.34] <+Mel> "Do we have any possessions of Whitelay's?"
1302. [01:21.43] * Repriever steps back into the hall while Penumbra helps with the final pieces.
1303. [01:22.00] * Repriever bangs his cosmic fist, raging blue fire, against Akvan's door.
  1304. [01:22.08] <Ironrose> You do.
1305. [01:22.18] <Ironrose> Of Whitelay and Kallias, something they made together.
  1306. [01:22.24] <Ironrose> Penumbra's seal.
1307. [01:22.40] <+Penumbra> [Also, the backup cloth seal]
1308. [01:22.45] * Repriever fusses with straps with Penumbra's help, just outside the door.
  1309. [01:22.53] <+Repriever> "Divine."
1310. [01:23.02] <Ironrose> Yeah, the backup cloth seal would be a good way to get Kallias
1311. [01:23.11] * You are now known as Carcephon
1312. [01:23.22] * Mel creates a defensive circle around herself as a precaution.
1313. [01:23.22] <Carcephon> "Goodness, Repriever. You know how small this room is, right?"
  1314. [01:23.35] <Carcephon> "I suppose we can..."
  1315. [01:23.58] <+Repriever> "Your sister. Find her."
  1316. [01:24.02] * Repriever doesn't take her bait.
  1317. [01:24.10] <Carcephon> "Hm?"
  1318. [01:24.15] <Carcephon> "I already told you, she's hiding."
1319. [01:24.27] <+Repriever> "Something is wrong in Tetraea."
  1320. [01:24.27] <+Penumbra> Sense motive +4
  1321. [01:24.37] * Carcephon pauses.
  1322. [01:24.41] <+Penumbra> ?roll 1d20+11
  1323. [01:24.41] <%tBot> Penumbra: 25 ([14] +11)
  1324. [01:24.46] <Carcephon> "Tell me more."
  1325. [01:25.13] * Mel begins to scry.
  1326. [01:25.19] <Carcephon> "Oh."
1327. [01:25.21] <+Repriever> "An inquisitor, quite good at his job, has made mistakes."
  1328. [01:25.26] <Carcephon> "The aura."
1329. [01:25.28] <+Mel> This will take some time, but I know this person closely and we have some things with direct personal connections.
1330. [01:25.33] <+Repriever> "Mistakes he would never make."
  1331. [01:25.41] <Carcephon> "What's that coming from..."
  1332. [01:25.46] <Carcephon> "You have a little item there."
  1333. [01:26.01] * Carcephon points to Ironrose.
1334. [01:26.18] * You are now known as Ironrose
  1335. [01:26.22] * Ironrose looks to Repriever.
  1336. [01:26.29] <+Repriever> [spark stones?]
  1337. [01:26.35] <Ironrose> [yep]
1338. [01:26.52] <+Repriever> "You can divine based on who uses an object?"
1339. [01:27.09] * Repriever puts out his hand for them from Ironrose.
1340. [01:27.33] * You are now known as Carcephon
1341. [01:27.38] <Carcephon> "It depends on the information I have."
  1342. [01:27.41] <Carcephon> "What did it do?"
  1343. [01:27.44] <Carcephon> "Be precise."
  1344. [01:27.59] <+Repriever> "It communicates."
1345. [01:28.11] <Carcephon> "Oh, wonderful. How, what did it say?"
  1346. [01:28.19] <+Kir_> “Codes”
  1347. [01:28.25] <+Kir_> “Uses codes”
1348. [01:28.28] <Carcephon> "What did the codes say?"
  1349. [01:28.37] <Carcephon> "This inquisitor?"
1350. [01:28.47] <+Repriever> "To open a gate into the Citadel immediately."
  1351. [01:28.52] <+Repriever> "A thing he would never ask."
1352. [01:29.27] * Repriever has Ironrose give the details.
  1353. [01:29.38] <+Repriever> "Progress, Mel?"
  1354. [01:30.12] <Carcephon> "Oh dear."
  1355. [01:30.34] <+Repriever> "Shala!"
1356. [01:30.35] <+Mel> "Tetraea seems to be gone, the people are scattered."
  1357. [01:30.43] <+Repriever> "What..."
1358. [01:30.44] <+Mel> "Kallias claims to be in hiding."
  1359. [01:30.48] <+Mel> "Zathindra."
  1360. [01:31.08] * Shala (IceChat9@cpe-97-98-83-80.stx.res.rr.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
  1361. [01:31.13] <Carcephon> "She's killed thousands."
1362. [01:31.31] <Carcephon> "Most of the Calcissi leadership...what was left of them."
  1363. [01:31.35] <+Repriever> "The Queen. Plainchant."
  1364. [01:31.40] <Carcephon> "Except for this Kallias."
1365. [01:31.45] * Repriever pulls out the spark stones Plainchant gave him.
1366. [01:31.45] <Carcephon> "He seems to have made it."
  1367. [01:31.50] <+Repriever> "Scry these."
  1368. [01:32.06] <+Repriever> "Do it!"
  1369. [01:32.08] <Carcephon> "Mm, I've learned the pattern."
  1370. [01:32.15] * Carcephon taps out a brief code.
  1371. [01:32.20] <Carcephon> "I'm asking, who this is."
1372. [01:32.34] * Carcephon holds out her hand.
1373. [01:32.43] <Carcephon> Slowly, the stones begin to tap.
  1374. [01:32.59] <Carcephon> "It says..."
1375. [01:33.06] * You are now known as Ironrose
  1376. [01:33.09] * Ironrose goes pale.
  1377. [01:33.17] <Ironrose> "I am coming."
