  1. Ara opened up another book, this one was a rather large tome on medical skills and human biology. Whats more, this was just the beginners tome, even by reading through and studying this she could not call herself a medic. Regardless, the people of her guild needed a medic and she had always preferred the supportive roles over combat roles.
  2.
  3. So why not?
  4.
  5. She opened it to the first page, taking out a notebook and beginning to study. It started off with basic first aid, such things like bandages, tourniquets, splints and a variety of other basic skills that a standard first aider should be in possession of.
  6.
  7. With no one to practice these skills on however, she could only read through and make notes on what she had read. It was the start of a long process, one she assumed she would be at for quite some time; perhaps a few years at least. She truly hoped Illan could wait that long, she needed that prophetic arm and Ara was determined to provide it.
  8.
  9. Perhaps when Genrira was back she would be able to practice some of these things she had read up on. It was only the start however, for after she had the basics of first aid down it would be a long an arduous study of the human body. So she might work on such things like internal injuries and could perform surgery without fear of harming the patient.
  10. --------
  11. Ara decided to just use Genrira as a guinea pig for her studies, though it was nothing dangerous she did need to practice on -something- alive. She started with the bandages, by taking the mans bare arm and preparing what she needed.
  12.
  13. She kept in mind what the book had said on things such as infection, thus she first set up a pot of boiling water and boiled the bandages as a method of disinfectant, after which they were set aside to dry whilst she prepared a few other things.
  14.
  15. The things in question was some clean cotton which she had pressed into pads. These would work as a method to compress the wounds under the bandages and soak up excess blood. Though in truth such methods were only truly for minor wounds, anything excessive would require deeper medical treatment beyond your basic first aid.
  16.
  17. With this done, she merely waited for the bandages to be ready before pressing the cotton down against an imaginary wound on Genrira's arm and beginning to wind the cloth around it. After completing the bandage, she proceeded to unwind them before doing so again...and again, repeating the process until she was pleased with the results.
  18.
  19. There was only so much you could practice this, for it truly was an incredibly basic skill. It didn't take much to learn it at all.
  20.
  21. Next on her list was a little more difficult however, creating a temporary splint for a broken bone. A splint would serve as something to keep the bone in place and prevent excessive movement. It was simply there to help until the victim was able to get proper medical treatment.
  22.
  23. She started by gather together several pieces of wood she had prepared already. She measured Genrira's fore arm and began to cut four equal piece of flat wood about an inch in width. They all needed to be approximately as long as his fore arm but not so long to prevent the elbow from bending.
  24.
  25. Once done, she affixed those pieces of wood to Genrira's fore arm and wrappedthem tighly with cloth. Again she disassembled this and performed the splint several times over before she was pleased with her efforts. Only then did she move onto the next thing...not that there was much else she could practice.
  26.
  27. A Torniquet was a thin strip of cloth or wire, or anything that could be tied around an appendage. It was made halt the spread of poison from a certain limb to the rest of the body, or to slow bleeding from the limb in question should it have been removed. It wasn't something that truly needed to be practiced honestly.
  28.
  29. Other then that, there was suturing and working upon genuine wounds. She was not willing to practice them upon an actual human being without reason however, thus she decided it best to drag one of the creatures of Agartha here to use as a guinea pig.
  30.
  31. There was also things like infection she needed to learn about, there was no way to practice such things however. She could only rely on books for these cases, learning how to spot and treat an infection through text and pictures.
  32.
  33. "It will take a while before I reach a level at which I can attach a prosphetic limb...but one day."
