Shinichiro was a child who grew up knowing his parents had died helplessly. Fearing for himself and those around him, he began training to be a Demon Buster as soon as he knew the occupation existed; believing such things to be the key to true strength. Over the years, he managed to accrue talent with bladed weaponry, demonic wings gained through a process called "demonization", and eventually obtained not only his Demon Buster license but the right to start his own clan. The clan came to be known as clan "Volatile" and, as leader, Shinichiro took the nickname "Shinigami" which he demands all others call him by.

As Shinigami, he gained a handful of followers that had managed to come with him to this new world, but many have since disappeared. All he has left to him are his spiteful demons and a collection of weapons.

Through demonization, a process in which one takes the soul of a demon into their own to gain their power and features, Shinigami was able to gain the wings of a "Dominion" class angel. Some speculate that this is where his controlling personality, violent tendencies toward those who step out of line, and distrust of Chaos demons despite his alignment stems from; though some say he has always been that way.
