A week without a computer

Computers have changed our lives. They can be used for so many things, like entertainment, work, education and communication, which means people need them and want to spend a lot of time using them. Even though our parents have grown up without them, and lived a happy and normal life, young people these days  think it would be a nightmare for someone to live without a computer.  When I found out that my computer had to be taken to be repaired, I knew this would change my daily routine.

For one thing , my studying habit has changed. Every time I study Math, I use my computer to look for the solution to the problem on the Internet, or use a computer program to check my answer. But now, I had to get together with my friends, and study with them, so that I could have some other place to compare the solutions.

Whenever I got tired from studying, I would sit in front of the computer, visit a web-site dedicated to fun and entertainment, then watch a movie. Because I didn't have a computer, I needed something that would help me relax, so I invited all of my friends to come over to my place, and play some board games . After that, we all went to the cinema. We were shouting funny comments about the actors all the time. If I watched the movie alone on my computer, i wouldn't have had company and fun like this. After the movie ended , we continued our partying on a concert. I've forgotten how much enjoyable it was to hear live music, while dancing together with my friends. It's so much different from listening to the music with headphones while sitting.

When I found out that the Chemistry results from the exam have been emailed to each student, in order to see my results I had to go to the university, which is located on the other side of town. It took me a long time to get to the bus station, I had to wait out in the open for the bus to arrive while it was snowing, then a half hour drive to the university, and I had to look all over the faculty to find where the results are. This journey seemed like travelling to the other side of the world. All of that could've been done in just  one minute in my cosy apartment, with the help of a computer. As a result, I've leant how valuable is the computer to me.

Every day in that week passed almost the same. When I got my computer back, I was glad I didn't have it, because I gained  new experiences,  I've learnt how past generations lived. Before that, I was just taking it for granted, I didn't appreciate what I had until I lost it. I realized how much I need it. I've learnt that me being without my computer is like a little child without its favourite toy. Even though the computer is capable of many things, it can not offer you everything. It can't give you the happiness that friendship can.
