  4. In recent years, access to educational material on every topic under the sun has become freely available to anyone with an internet connection. Yet despite this we've not seen a massive increase in talented individuals as a result. Now this can be attributed to many things but I'd argue that it's due to a crippling lack of motivation as part of the modern human condition. In fact I'd argue this has been the case since time immemorial and has only been highlighted by the internet and the opportunity of instant global exposure it represents. In times past people have been able to divert attention from this central problem but that's a lot harder nowadays.
