  14. History: Val is of Olympian origins, and is set to have existed some time before the events of the trojan war. Having been the only known survivor of a demonic and necromancy based attack on his village, his left arm was broken badly in the act of shielding too many blows while escaping. Now unable to defend himself properly, he settled at an altar and pledged himself to the Gods, offering his once beloved shield as a tribute.
  15.
  16. In honor of, and only so, for his heroic feats in his past was he accepted into Olympus. Only once a trust was built after many centuries of errands and tasks, was he given the chance he needed. The task of delivering the essence of the phoenix, the essence of life, to Horus. This would result in Horus feeding it to the sun, allowing its rays to bring forth eternal life.
  17. But Val didn't like this idea. The thought of people never dying, they would become fearless, and brash. Nobody would need the Gods. Nobody would praise them for their greatness. In a splurge of greed mixed with intentions to save the future of Olympians and presumably himself from their grasp, he devoured the essence himself, and was granted the powers of the phoenix in succession.
  18. The Gods found out about this right away. Punishment was in order, obviously by death. But this also would not be possible, since they still wanted to harvest the essence of the phoenix without destroying it. So in an attempt to salvage what was left, they sent him to Hades for experimenting.
  19. Amidst pairing Val up against horrendous and nasty creations during his keep assumedly for enjoyment, Hades had eventually ended up extracting the core of the phoenix; but in it was that of Val. They had been bonded together, and further experiments would need to be performed in order to separate the pairing. However, Hades could not put the core back, and needed a new way to allow the essence to live on. So in an attempt to give the new discovery a host, he allowed the fumes from his infamous black cauldron to mist around the essence, and cling onto it as a source of life.

  21. This new enigmatic substance is other wordly. Its consisted of protoplasm-like materials that are reliant on feeding off the energy of its surroundings to survive. This 'gas' can be shaped and shifted into anything the mind of the user can desire. When the brain tells a limb to move or correspond, the matter takes form of what Val is seeing in his head. His physical body being a constant manifestation of what he is picturing in his mind. Such a creation could potentially be used against all of them, and was indeed a great threat, should it be further worked on.
  22. Hermes, doing his rounds, eventually came across this creation and how Hades had developed a bond for it, and reported it with haste to the main table in Olympus. Infuriated, the Gods Hades was given no choice but to release the creature, as his place amongst the gods was no longer wanted. So long as Hades had plans for him, it was a threat to the others. And a threat they couldnt afford to misplace.
  23. With nowhere to go, Val was expelled to the earth to deal with a life of limbo and crestfallen hopes of ever becoming human again. At least until the Olympians find a way to recover the essence, however long that may take.
