10.
11. It wasn’t so tough being the youngest Byrne brother. Sure, George spent a lot of his young life trying to play catch up— everything he’d been excited to accomplish, his brothers had already done... but that didn’t bother him at all. He wasn’t resentful of the fact that he’d never be the decision maker. Didn’t lose sleep at night because his name hadn’t struck fear into the hearts of the towns petty thieves and business owners. The way George saw it, he’d been given a gift and he revelled in every moment of it.
12.
13. When their family had moved from Belfast to Bayfield, he was still teetering at the cusp of manhood. In his mind he had the very best brothers to look up to, and for years he’d mimicked their every move. George was almost envious of the qualities that his brothers displayed. He wanted so badly to handle business with as much confidence and brass as Ben. He admired Jensens ability to live his life with an imprudence that never seemed to impede on his familial bond. If one paid close enough attention, they might realize that George was, in fact, a melting pot of all the things he loved about his family.
14.
15. Fair warning: these qualities don't always mesh well together. A sprinkling of audacity. A dash of grit. It made for an interesting night out where family business was concerned. George handled the numbers during the day, and at night once he’d deduced which of the numbers didn’t add up, well... then he let Ben know, and nine times out of ten was let loose to remedy the problem. Logic and reason were not always virtues with which the youngest Byrne conducted business. He could easily be described as a 'act first, ask questions later' type of man. For him, the proof was on the paper, always. George didn't mess up when it came to numbers, and numbers don't lie. If you owed anything to the Byrnes, they were going to take it, and he didn't care what degree of prowess he had to use to deliver.
16.
17. There aren't many things in his life that don't revolve around his kin. His relationships have always suffered because of this. Family comes first, always. While he certainly was no stranger to getting his kicks in where he could, he's never settled down with a woman in any degree. George doesn't fancy himself the type with time to nurture a relationship. You could call him selfish to that extent, because he wasn't willing to make the sacrifices demanded of him by love and affection. When it comes down to it, he's convinced he has everything he needs. What could a woman offer him, emotionally, that he didn't already have?
18.
19. The women who already occupied his life were some of the people he loved the most. The affection he felt for his sisters was different than the sentiment he had for his brothers. Bella was sweet, and gentle. He knew he could turn to her when he was troubled by something he couldn't go to Ben or Jensen about. She regarded him with kindness. She was warm. Some days it was hard to imagine that her and Ben were exactly the same genetically. On some level he knew that meant that Ben was capable of the same things, but teasing him about it in the past had earned him a broken finger. Helena, on the other hand, had always been kept out of family business. George respected that, but did not envy her, and like any good big brother would do, he offered his protection to her with a ferocity that would never diminish. In his opinion, keeping her in the dark put her in danger. But that only meant him and his brothers would have to work harder to keep her safe.
20.
21. Ultimately, George has always been a bit of a wildcard. His mood shifts regularly, and often without notice. There are days when he conducts business without the concession of his brothers... And it doesn't always go well. The hit on Juliette had been entirely of his construction, but it didn't exactly go as planned. While it all worked out in the end, the result continues to nag at his conscience. The better he came to know Juliette, the more she reminded him of Helena. He thought about how devastated he would be if some local gang had tried to make some example out of her. The notion wasn't enough to deter him from everyday business, but it gave him a lot to think about in the long run.
22.
23. Alas, when it comes right down to it, George would follow any member of his family into the fire. In fact, he has, many times. Loyalty and honor are the most important traits, and anyone who disrespected him or his clan would surely come to regret it.
