  1. Vertigo hints
  2.
  3. King of the Rides - Cover
  4. In Vertigo, Railrunner has to defeat a new and even more powerful enemy, Darkrail, Amusement Park Between's Spirit of Death who returns every blood moon until a red can stop him. After defeating Ironwheel in Twissted, Railrunner the red roller coaster took his place as King of Amusement Park Between. First of all, red roller coasters are special. The reason is one only comes along after the other dies, allowing only one in the world at a time. They are also the only ones created differently, you'll find that out in Twissted. Reds are also more powerful than regular coasters in Amusement Park Between. Railrunner is the tenth red. He's young, but cunning. However, he can sometimes be very unpredictable. Railrunner's temper has spiked even more so in Vertigo, making him more dangerous and more likely to swear up a storm. He is capable of destroying nearly everything or anyone. When he is at ease, Railrunner is actually quite compassionate. He is very faithful to his one and only love, Shadowtrack, you'll learn about her in Twissted. He and his allies are very closely intertwined, even though he is a little temperamental, Railrunner enjoys making everyone laugh at his outlandish remarks that are sometimes what Thunderbark calls "explicit". Even though he is a party machine, Railrunner is one determined roller coaster that gets things done and done right.

  6. White Knight - Part 1
  7. In Vertigo, Railrunner has to defeat a new adversary that is far more powerful, Darkrail, Amusement Park Between’s Spirit of Death that arises again every blood moon. This is a scene in part 1 where Railrunner and his allies try to intercept Darkrail after he enters the world again. Thunderbark is a white wooden roller coaster that has been with king Railrunner ever since the beginning. (you can learn more about him in Twissted) Thunderbark’s brains and experience give him an edge. After all, he has been around since 1921! He has served as a teacher to Railrunner, a carpenter (naturally), and an Icecoaster, an elite team of guardians for the late king Firetrack.

  9. Conversation with Death - Part 4
  10. Darkrail. (in the back) Is the spirit of death in Amusement Park Between. His plagues that are cast by tooth, claw, and his minions infect any ride with the disease known as “vertigo”, a deadly virus that kills quickly rather than a dizzying sensation. Darkrail arises every blood moon in the real world from a black roller coaster destined to crash. He is as evil as they come. With every life he takes, the stronger he gets; starting out as a corpse and progressing into a pure monster that will stop at nothing to kill everyone, especially the red roller coaster Railrunner. Darkrail is so terrifying, that even his Fallen assistants are scared of him. Veinstreak (in the front), his assistant and unwilling bride is greatly terrified due to Darkrail slaying her Fallen kin in demonstration to using her evil blood to help him spawn some of the most wicked creatures Amusement Park Between will ever see. Veinstreak has been heavily injured by Railrunner many times, and has seen Darkrail kill off his injured followers, but oddly he keeps her alive. However, his nature makes her unsure of how much longer she will survive.
  11.
  12. Adversaries - Part 1
  13. Railrunner and the real world don't mix. Humans always regard him as nothing but a monster and a huge problem. Darkrail arises from a soon to be destroyed coaster in our world, so Railrunner is in Coaster Island waiting for him. While serching for a bite to eat, a helpless police officer stumbles upon Railrunner and angers the hot tempered coaster. Will each of them escape unharmed?
  14.
  15. Wheel of Fortune - Part 2
  16. In order to find the cure for the plague, Railrunner the red roller coaster and King of Amusement Park Between, must travel to the “Lost Soul’s” lair. Its location is in question, but a ride much older than Thunderbark or any before Railrunner’s time that knows the answer is Farris, the Ferris Wheel of Hudong. Farris is a rather smug individual with an upfront personality and a heavy accent. His knowledge of Amusement Park Between’s secrets gave him the powerful rank as both the mayor of Hudong and head of the Council of Elders. However, Farris has turned what he knows into a business, trading answers for useless things that a Ferris Wheel has no need for. You can be very straightforward in what you want, but Farris likes to play with you. The Ferris Wheel asks for his things in rhyme, making you work even harder for his own amusement.
  17.
  18. Roller Coaster VS Bumper Cars - Part 2
  19. From Part 2 of Vertigo, a scene where Railrunner jumps in to save Static from his old clan members that sentenced him to exile many years ago.
  20.
  21. The Kiss - Part 4
  22. Railrunner and Shadowtrack have been in love even before they were both transformed into twisted roller coasters (living roller coasters that reside in Amusement Park Between and you will find out how they changed in my book Twisted) In the sequel Vertigo, Railrunner begins to have...problems, horrendous displays through his unpredictable temper. Railrunner's temper is not ordinary like any other coasters. No, it is some sort of powerful force linked to him being a red. (you will find out what this is called once vertigo is released) His "power" is so severe that if angered to the breaking point, he could destroy both himself and Amusement Park Between. This has made Shadowtrack even more close to him despite the danger that she could endure. Her love seems to be the only thing that soothes him after any episode.
  23.
  24. Pondering - Part 2
  25. Everyone has problems with relationships, even Railrunner. After a fight with his lover Shadowtrack, the red coaster ran off to rot in his own world of misery. Their spat was caused by Railrunner's instinct to protect, but Shadowtrack stayed to fight. He told her to retreat for her own safety... well you'll learn more later, but don't worry they soon make up.
  26.
  27. Jagg - Part 2
  28. There are some roller coasters in Amusement Park Between who are not fully "coaster". They are known as "Half Coasters". They are the result of when coaster trains are put into storage that are themed to be either animal like or a mixture of some other vehicle. Despite being part coaster, they do not have the raw power that a full blooded coaster has. Due to their weakness, there are not many of them left in Amusement Park Between.
  29. This is Jagg, a mixture of leopard and roller coaster. He came to Amusement Park Between in the 80's. Jagg is small for a Half Coaster, only a third of the size of Railrunner. Jagg is pesky and sometimes steals other items (for good reason) to benefit the small group of Half Coasters he lives with. Jagg has good hearing due to his ears, another rare trait. Like Static, though not as much, likes to irritate Railrunner when he first meets him. Soon however, Railrunner finds Jagg as a useful tool.
  30.
  31. Forbbiden Love - Unknown
  32. In Vertigo, Railrunner has issues with his temper consuming him, to the point where he cannot hold his own and his will seems to not be in control. Deep in the Room of Heavenly Light, Merrylegs tries to comfort him with her soft words. Railrunner's temper is unpredictable and very unstable, making him turn on ones he loves, including Shadowtrack.
  33.
  34. Santuary - Unknown
  35. In Vertigo, Railrunner has issues with his temper consuming him, to the point where he cannot hold his own and his will seems to not be in control. Deep in the Room of Heavenly Light, Merrylegs tries to comfort him with her soft words.
  36.
  37. In Hiding - Part 1
  38. In a new quest to defeat the one known as Darkrail, Railrunner travels to Coaster Island in the real world to wait for his arrival. While there, he is forced to stay in an old coaster house so humans cannot spot him as he stays in the park.
  39.
  40. The Warrior - Part 1
  41. In the real world at a park called, Coaster Island, the evil death spirit Darkrail is running rabid throught the park. Railrunner is hunting him down, but will he succeed?
  42.
  43. Alliance - Unknown
  44. From the sequel Vertigo. From left to right they are: Railrunner, Shadowtrack, Static (far back), Merrylegs, and Thunderbark. Note: Merrylegs is a carousel horse and Static is a bumper car.
  45. Looks like after a long day, Railrunner and his allies have settled down for some rest
  46.
  47. The Assassin - Unknown
  48. This is a scene from Twisted's sequel, Vertigo. Railrunner is in the sewer hunting down a stowaway from Darkrail's army that got lost after their raid on a small city in Amusement Park Between called Cirwann.
  49.
  50. Prototype: Profile - Unknown
  51. One day, unexpectedly, the Halfcoasters stumble on Railrunner and his traveling allies. Prototype is spooked by the king's presence, fearful that he will be judged by even the most powerful being (or rather individual) in all of Amusement Park Between. However, to his surprise, Railrunner finds him to be a great friend and that they have a lot in common with each other, including tragic stories. Soon after, Prototype and the Halfcoasters embark on the king's journey to defeat Darkrail. In the meantime, Prototype and Railrunner spend plenty of time sharing stories and performing many tasks. In the end, Prototype does get his wish, just in the way he never expected.
  52.
  53. Farris: Profile - Part 2
  54. Bio: Farris is a rather smug individual with an upfront personality and a heavy accent. His knowledge of Amusement Park Between’s secrets gave him the powerful rank as both the mayor of Hudong and head of the Council of Elders.
  55.
  56. Timberwolf: Profile - About
  57. Dislikes: The deadly disease( or plague) vertigo, Darkrail, Fallens, an incurable sickness.
  58.
  59. Shureshot: Profile - Unknown
  60. Just recently, Shureshot and his crew meets Railrunner (now mature and King of Amusement Park Between) and his longtime allies. Together they sat out on a journey to find the Lost Souls' lair where the cure for Darkrail's plague, vertigo, is kept secret.
  61.
  62. Love - Unknown
  63. This image popped in my head and I had to draw it. Railrunner and Shadowtrack are a happily married pair of twisted roller coasters. The two are extremely head over hills for each other. During a party at King Railrunner's temple, after accidentally consuming a potion with the same effects of intoxication - both engage in a deep make out session ( not what you people with dirty minds are assuming). lol
  64.
  65. Firetrack: Profile - About
  66. Firetrack is the one red witch all other red roller coasters are compared. He was a very noble leader and sat the standard to what all reds should be. Firetrack was the second red out of the ten and was the soul writer of the Veradagashi (book of the reds) The red coaster was very well respected for his natural abilities in combat and his incredible ability to predict the future several decades ahead of his time. Firetrack also trained the elite team of Icecoasters to guard the helpless Lost Souls, among them the infamous Thunderbark who Firetrack foresaw in the two of them taking part in the future red, Railrunner's life.
  67. Firetrack's death was a tragic one. He was married to his "once peasant" wife, Pheonixwing, the two in deep love. Darkrail, the spirit of death, rises again to spread his deadly plagues. During one brief encounter, Pheonixwing in infected with the virus by a devastating wound from Darkrail's teeth. There was no known antidote, and Firetrack watched in misery as his love slowly suffered a painful death. During that time, rage built up within an exploded when she died. Fueled on Revenge, Firetrack set out to kill Darkrail, but was soon murdered himself after a fatal blow. Today, he is known as one of the greatest reds and Railrunner looks to him for inspiration.
  68.
  69. Jagg: Profile - Unknown
  70. When Railrunner meets the halfcoaster for the first time, he's puzzled by what he sees. Jagg is only about the size of a large dog, has large erect ears, whiskers,he is colorblind( only seeing shades of blue) and fur. (Jagg's fur is really lots of very fine strips of metal) However, Railrunner eventually finds Jagg as a useful tool and a good ally.
  71.
  72. A New Friend - Unknown
  73. Eating lunch, I got the urge to make a few sketches of Railrunner and a new character that will be part of the series in the future. I'm a beginner when it comes to drawing humans in a cartoon like style, so there are errors but I still like parts of this.
  74. I'm not revealing her name, but she's the daughter of a successful amusement park owner and knows the story of Between and all of its rides. She's a shy teenager but is loved by everyone. One night, Railrunner enters the park, Queen's Canyon (a mix of amusement park and zoo) just after he was tortured mercilessly by a new mysterious adversary. Railrunner suffered, never was fed or given any bit of kindness whatsoever. He was given painful injections that kept him restricted in the cruel environment. He escapes, not telling how, but not in good condition. The girl finds him in the park's midway, so weak that he can hardly move or lift his head.Railrunner can't even smile or speak and becomes distrustful; not even wanting any human to touch him. She and a friend take him to a secret room and cares for him under everyone's nose. During which, they form a unbreakable bond.
  75.
  76. Prototype sketch - unknown
  78.
  79. Character Sketches: Railrunner - unknown
  80. Top right: (spoiler) Railrunner does wear this at one point in Vertigo (it has yet to be edited) At first he despises it, but the Shadowtrack thinks he's cute and so he wears it. Well, he's forced to wear it as kings attire at a ball...
  81.
  82. Character sketches: Railrunner 2 - unknown
  83. Top: In one of the books, Railrunner is captured and tortured. He was starved, bounded by heavy chains, muzzled, and drugged. Somehow, he escaped and ended up in Queen's Canyon, an amusement park with an added zoo. He's found by the owner's daughter and her friend and they secretly began to care for him in a forgotten area of the park, the basement of an animal nursery. Railrunner is terribly weak, so much that he cannot lift his head or even speak. He can't eat solids and has trouble even getting a drink. With a lot of patience and care, the girl and her friend start to see improvements.
  84. Bottom Right: Oh dear. Railrunner is drunk... Of course, as it is stated in the book, roller coasters can't get drunk - but soon Railrunner discovers a way around that. Sometimes its useful to get secrets from others, but he uses it on himself just to ease pain. From the sketch, he may look like an abusive drunk - but he's actually one of the "funny" and "carefree" drunks. When's he's intoxicated he wants two things: more alcohol and more of Shadowtrack( if you catch my drift there lol) Hmmm...He's got some stubble on his chin...
  85.
  86. Character sketches: Thunderbark - about
  87. As the years passed, the red coaster promoted Thunderbark to train and lead the Icecoasters, an elite team that protected The Lost Souls and the cities surrounding the icy Ragnora Mountains. Thunderbark became very well known among Between until Firetrack left to defeat Darkrail who murdered the king before he could share with Thunderbark the reason to why he kept him by his side for those many years.
  88.
  89. Character sketches: Firetrack - about
  90. Firetrack lived in the Ragnora mountains with his mother within the Lost Soul's lair.
  91. Years later, Darkrail returns to Between and in a heated battle, Pheonixwing is infected with "vertigo" (a deadly disease that Darkrail uses as a plague - will get into much later) She falls ill and puts Firetrack's stress and levels of concern through the roof. For three days, he remains by her bedside, taking care of her until the morning of the fourth day when Pheonixwing passes away. Angry, upset, and extremely troubled, Firetrack falls into depression. Blinded by rage and revenge, he seeks out Darkrail only to be slaughtered on the spot. His unexpected death shakes up Between, but no one knows a secret that Firetrack took to his death - one that will change Between and finish what he started.
  92. Bottom: Back in the day, The council of Elders would meet with him twice a year to go over any issue that was going on in Between as well as its finances, or issues that could happen in the future. During these meetings, Firetrack was often hard to interpret. He would keep silent, toying with his beard, as he listened to everyone speak their piece. The entire period he would be secretly seeing things in the future and how they would play out. Then, much like a art director he would bluntly say the truth. At times, many of the elders would get aggravated, but no one could argue with him. Firetrack was always right.
  93.
  94. Character sketches: Mistymetal - unknown
  95. This is Mistymetal, a old mysterious roller coaster with an even more secretive past. Being one of the oldest and most experienced coasters in Between, Mistymetal is of very high rank. She founded "The Lost Souls" a secret society that houses injured and thought to be dead rides.
  96. Mistymetal does rule The Lost Souls with a stern but strict hand. However, she is rather like a grandmother when approached individually. Although, Mistymetal keeps much of her past to herself.
  97. Top: In Vertigo, Railrunner has a problem with his uncontrollable temper - in which his outburst are so violent that his will seems to not be in control and unexplainable happenings occur. He sits down with Mistymetal to explain what's been happening to him. Mistymetal is incredibly gentle with the red coaster. She thinks of him as if he's her son.
  98.
  99. Character sketches: Timberwolf - unknown
  100. Bottom: Vertigo, in Between, is a deadly plauge generated by Darkrail. While protecting the innocent and his allies, Railrunner is accidentally infected with a small dose. Even with a mild case, the red coaster suffers from dizziness, loss of energy and appetite, irregular stomach, nausea ( a coaster will vomit grease and hydraulic fluid), etc. And the symptoms only worsen until death. For five days, Railrunner undergoes surgery, all of the previous symptoms, and in bedridden - so ill that he can't even stand. Luckily, Timberwolf is there to nurse him back to health.
  101.
  102. A flashy ride - unknown
  103. So yes, this is Railrunner in his fancy suit. In Vertigo, he does wear this but I'm going to keep my mouth shut and not reveal what for. Though, he does look handsome in it doesn't he?
  104.
  105. Mommy fitness - unknown
  106. Mistymetal, the leader of the Lost Souls and expert with aiding Redmothers
  107.
  108. The Graveyard - unknown
  109. This is actually a scene from Twisted's sequel "Vertigo" which I have yet to edit since you know, life. During their trek, Railrunner, Thunderbark, Shadowtrack, Merrylegs, and Static have to cross the "Coaster Graveyard" - A deep gorge that spans for miles that serves as a home for all the coaster tracks that come into Between. (Only the coaster itself is the part of the ride that gets the honor of being alive - the tracks are simply cast aside. Long ago these rails would have been used but then the coasters found it more fun and personal if they created their own, plus moving a set of rails is hard work.) The Coaster Graveyard is a sad place but more so dangerous. A thick fog covers the area in a depressing mass that makes visibility next to none. Because it is difficult to see, the terrain is hazardous. Besides the broken tracks, the gorge is full of cliffs and drop offs that higher one's chance of falling to your death. However, the most dangerous thing is the savages that call it home as well...
  110.
  111. Pinned - unknown
  112. To the human eye, Railrunner is seen as a monster. Being a living roller coaster - he's worth money in pockets. In one case he is captured by a mysterious man and his team of bounty hunters that are a part of a secret government organization. He is drugged heavily, chained to a steel platform, and starved- all the while the group experiments. A week after he is originally captured, Railrunner awakes in a steel warehouse, unable to move, his bones visible, barely able to speak, and feeling horrible. He silently pleas for mercy, crying from any needle they force past him, injecting a serum that is intended to restrain - feeling like fire through his veins - and he's too weak to fight back.
  113.
  114. Misunderstood - unknown
  115. Prototype is an incredibly misunderstood roller coaster. After his tragic indecent that resulted in the loss of some his organs and his menacing looking "prosthetic replacements" Prototype is usually seen as nothing but repulsive. His looks are defiantly misleading as he may be one of the most kindhearted and "zen" coasters you'll ever meet. Being mute, Prototype likes to keep to himself and enjoy nature around him. In fact, if he wasn't nomadic - he would build a greenhouse and fill it with the most beautiful flowers and butterflies. Living with the Halfcoasters who are a bit misunderstood as well, Prototype feels quite at home and free to express himself without a word. In public - with the presence of normal rides, sadly the mute coaster covers himself with a hooded jacket and stands back as the others speak for him. Though he still communicates with writing and hand gestures - Prototype is mostly a mystery.
