Born to a upper middle class family in Atlanta, Georgia
Father: Joseph Jordane, Professor of philosophy, Mildly successful writer and public speaker
Mother: Margaret Jordane, Registered nurse
Older Sister: Alice Jordane

Jonah suffered through severe nightmares almost constantly when he was a young child
When he was old enough to properly talk about them, Alice was the first he told
Alice encouraged Jonah it was nothing to worry about at first until the descriptions of her brother’s dreams became increasingly vivid and unsettling
Shortly thereafter, Jonah was put on medication to suppress his dreams, though it also decreases the quality of his sleep
Jonah no longer remembers the nightmares, and only knows they happened in the first place because of the medication he still takes for them to this day, and from the secondhand descriptions from his sister

Jonah was always in his sister's shadow, but always admired and idolized her regardless
Especially when he was younger, was shy, easily discouraged, and lacking confidence
His parents had high hopes and high expectations for both their children
Alice was groomed for medical school from as early on as possible
Jonah was more so doted on and spoiled as the younger child

Alice started crumbling under the pressure shortly after high-school
Alice confided in Jonah, and Jonah urged her to speak to their parents about her problems
She had already tried and failed
Their parents began to scorn Alice for not living up to her potential
Jonah started acting and challenging his parents to try to defend Alice
Alice began to resent and push her parents away at any opportunity

Alice got accepted into med school, but had a mental breakdown and ran away
From then on, Jonah received the full brunt of his parent’s “support”
Their parents made no efforts to relocate or contact her after she disappeared, happy to go on living as if the disappointment didn’t exist

Alice contacted and re-connected with Jonah when he moved out to start his own collegiate career
The two siblings kept regular contact outside the intrusive influence of their parents
For a time they were both happy and enjoyed their relative freedom and mutual support
Their parents discovered that Jonah had been in contact with Alice and took legal measures to keep her from negatively influencing their precious son
Alice quickly spiraled downward after her parents struck the final nail in their relationship, and became involved in increasingly deviant social circles

After a while of no contact, Alice attempted to reach out to Jonah again, but Jonah couldn’t bring himself to answer the phone or answer the door, due to fearing his parents would give him the same treatment
Alice turned up dead about two years later
Jonah was with his parents when they went to identify the body
Jonah never knew the details of how it happened, but he frequently was haunted by his own imaginings of what his sister went through, and how they might have been different if he hadn’t been so afraid of his own parents

Jonah followed a similar path as his sister, but used the pretense of his academic studies and the best interest of his career in order to distance himself as much as possible from his parents, both emotionally and physically
Ended up choosing a graduate program in California both because it was a really good opportunity, and on the opposite side of the country from his parents.
Jonah finished school and graduated ahead of schedule with his Ph. D. in Psychology
Jonah started practicing as a licensed therapist in Los Angeles using his connections from graduate studies.

Since starting his practice he has been growing increasingly frustrated with the conditions in the city, and with his inability to solve all his client's problems.
In part due to his dissatisfaction, he has occasionally dabbled in some of the softer illicit substances, as well as indulging himself in a morally dubious affair with a former patient of his.
The affair has currently ended, though it's not the first time they have parted ways and found their way back.
