- <kappaluppa> I am in the middle of a huge huge debate on a subject and and I am looking for someone who can give me about 10 minutes to help me understand if I am approaching something correctly or not
- <BenjaSattva> I am trying to dynamically set the title on a panel page consisting of 15+ views driven by a Taxonomy Term argument. So far it is blank or Displays [cat] or [term-name]. I've tried Page_Title, Novewords_Page_Title, and Taxonomy_Title to no avail. Any ideas?
- <kthomas1> kappaluppa,
- <kthomas1> justask?
- <readyman> ownage: Not sure of the context. If it's not in your .info file, then I don't think it will appear in your template.
- <Druplicon> Just ask your question. No need to ask to ask, ask if anyone knows or is using something, or other preface. Just Ask.

- <kappaluppa> ok...
- <kthomas1> :P
- <kappaluppa> I am working on a site that we are updating look and feel. the site is established, and multilingual
- <kappaluppa> there are some nodes that have titles, images and links that need to be changed to reflect the styles
- <kappaluppa> one content type is a carousel
- <kappaluppa> there are new images for the carousel
- <kappaluppa> nothing else changes
- <kappaluppa> my approach was to remove the image and add the new image
- sam1am (~sam1am@unaffiliated/sam1am) has joined #drupal-support
- <kappaluppa> there are four such instances all views
- <kappaluppa> since the site is many languages there are repeated nodes in the different languages
- <kiwiact> kappaluppa: I don't quite understand the problem
- <kappaluppa> again, my approach was to change the existing node
- drfyzziks (~drfyzziks@24-212-140-39.cable.teksavvy.com) has left #drupal-support
- <kappaluppa> i was told this is the wrong way to approach it
- <kthomas1> what's the alternative ;) ?
- <kappaluppa> that the drupal way is to recreate about 100 nodes
- rickmanelius has quit (Quit: rickmanelius)
- <kthomas1> I'd certainly have revisions on
- <kappaluppa> all with the new information
- <kthomas1> but if it's a revision/change and not new info,
- <kthomas1> then creating new nodes seems the back arseward way
- <kappaluppa> its a change in the node title such as from: this is fall TO: this is spring
- <kthomas1> himm
- <kthomas1> *hmmm
- <kappaluppa> three fields: title, image, url
- <kthomas1> well, maybe your title should be a subtitle
- <kthomas1> but as long as it's the same *think* and you're *updating* it
- <kthomas1> "House on 200 Alberta St."
- <kthomas1> "this is a picture in spring"
- <kthomas1> "this is a picture in fall"
- <sam1am> How can I verify the machine name of a view and its displays in D7?
- <kthomas1> it would seem odd to me to create new nodes each season, all else aside
- <kappaluppa> that was my thought
- <kthomas1> assuming no parent relationship etc etc
- <kappaluppa> also, this is the 3rd season
- <kappaluppa> the views are created via content type
- <kthomas1> now, if you're trying to archive it all ...
- kvnn (~kvnn@cpe-98-151-249-46.socal.res.rr.com) has left #drupal-support
- <kthomas1> then you might have a different data architecture
- nadavoid (~nadavoid@drupal.org/user/89512/view) has joined #drupal-support
- <kthomas1> * and keep that archive live and easy to find
- <kappaluppa> this is what I am told. that changing the title and the image in the node is destroying data
- <kthomas1> but these days, even revisions are easy to search
- <kthomas1> do you have revisions on?
- kthomas1 believes in revisions on by default
- <kappaluppa> that's what i asked. i was told we can't have revisions on for everything
- <kappaluppa> i think the same way.
- kthomas1 actually thinks you probably should not be able to turn revisions off
- <kappaluppa> however, things are changed once every four months
- <kthomas1> why can't you?
- <kappaluppa> that's my question
- <kappaluppa> too
- <kthomas1> especially if it's only changed every four months
- <kthomas1> it's only disk space
- <kthomas1> disk is cheaper every day!
- <kappaluppa> lol
- <kappaluppa> here is my thought as well
- <kappaluppa> we have three seasons so far
- sarah_p has quit (Quit: Computer has gone to sleep.)
- <kappaluppa> one node type has 39 nodes, 3 for each language
- <kappaluppa> if this is the 3rd season we should have about 120 unpublished nodes by now
- <kappaluppa> there are only the 39 published nodes
- kthomas1 reboots
- kthomas1 has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
- bsmirnov has quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
- <GrecKo> When I change the settings for "Error messages to display", it keeps falling back to "All messages"
- <GrecKo> I can't seem to change it :/
- Digidog (~digidog@f052071031.adsl.alicedsl.de) has joined #drupal-support
- kthomas1 (~ken@adsl-98-93-44-5.owb.bellsouth.net) has joined #drupal-support
- kthomas1 returns
- <kthomas1> kappaluppa, yeah, sure, you never want to destroy data inadvertently
- <kthomas1> but your first guarantee against that, is revisions tracking
- DestinSkiathos (~IceChat77@ppp-94-67-31-29.home.otenet.gr) has joined #drupal-support
- <kthomas1> data architecture is an entirely different consideration
- August1914 (~nacho@216-45-69-17.gvec.net) has joined #drupal-support
- chaloum has quit (Remote host closed the connection)
- <kappaluppa> if recreating the nodes was the way to go, I'd think we'd have 120 nodes of this content type with 80 of them unpublished
- juliakm has quit (Quit: Computer has gone to sleep.)
- <kthomas1> well, you can imagine something like TV series--artist--episodes,
- <kthomas1> with a bunch of node relations
- <kthomas1> all depends on your actual application
- attiks has quit (Ping timeout: 245 seconds)
- <kappaluppa> its image & url, with three nodes displayed in a carousel
- <kappaluppa> very very simple
- <kappaluppa> except there are 7 languages
- <kappaluppa> so now we have 21 nodes, called in the view by language
- webflo1 (~Adium@p4FFF4E2E.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) has joined #drupal-support
- webflo has quit (Disconnected by services)
- * webflo1 is now known as webflo
- <kthomas1> you keep a node for each language?
- <kappaluppa> the site is that way. some things are translated, some are not
- <kappaluppa> i have not worked with translation much so i don't exactly know how it works
- <kthomas1> v?
- <Druplicon> What version of Drupal? The answer can vary widely depending on your version.
- <kappaluppa> when using translation, if i create a node in English, how do the over translated version get created
- attiks (~quassel@d5153136D.static.telenet.be) has joined #drupal-support
- <kappaluppa> d6
- <kappaluppa> how do the other language version get created
- <kthomas1> well, depends on what kind of translating you implement
- duckxx (~pat@cpe-66-108-51-222.nyc.res.rr.com) has joined #drupal-support
- <kthomas1> but in D7 it's certainly possible to just enter different language versions of title & body for each node
- katbailey (~katherine@66.183.221.185) has joined #drupal-support
- <kappaluppa> when i open say the English version of the node I see an option for translate
- Ejvind (Ejvind@rg4458297d1152.cm.vejen-net.dk) has joined #drupal-support
- <kappaluppa> when i click on that tab i see a list of related nodes in different languages
- kevinquillen has quit (Quit: kevinquillen)
- bitchkat has quit (Quit: Leaving)
- <kthomas1> sounds typical
- kthomas1 watches video driver install under virtualbox, hang again
- attiks has quit (Ping timeout: 255 seconds)
- AJToft (til@x1-6-e0-46-9a-98-30-32.k70.webspeed.dk) has joined #drupal-support
- <kthomas1> wait, it looks like it's working this time around ... !
