What is a Fistula?
A fistula is tube like connection, an abnormally grown tube, which is formed between two vessels or organs. They may occur in the urinary, circulatory, digestive or reproductive tracts. Fistulas usually develop because of a disease, injury, infection and sometimes surgery.

Natural fistulas can develop between the end of the bowel and skin near the anus and is known as anus fistula. It can also develop between vagina and rectum known as rectovaginal fistula or between vagina and intestine referred to as enterovaginal fistula.

An artificial fistula can be made for instance, for a person who needs renal dialysis an arteriovenous fistula can be made between the vein and the artery. However, sometimes this type of fistula can also be caused by injury.

The most painful and common fistula is the anal fistula. Patients are likely to experience high body temperature, discomfort most of the times and fatigue.
