General purpose: To persuade.
Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech my audience will agree that gun free campuses are less safe than those that allow firearms on their property.
Central Idea:  Gun free college campuses are not any safer than those that aren’t gun free. Colleges should not legally be allowed to ban firearms on campus.
	April 16th 2007 was a brisk spring morning in Roanoke Virginia, 455 miles from Elyria. The sun rose at 6:50a.m. On the campus of Virginia polytechnic Institute, students were just waking up to get ready for the last week of final exams. West Ambler Johnston is a dormitory on the southwest side of the campus, housing 266 students. At 7:15 A.M. a student entered the room of freshman Emily J. Hilscher and fired three shots from his walther p22 fatally wounding her. Ryan Clark, age 22, heard the gunshots and went to aid Emily but was also shot and killed. The shooter,  Sueng-hui Cho, went back to his dorm in the adjacent building and changed his clothes.  At 9:50A.M. Cho entered the classroom of professor Loganathan and shot him in the head once with a Glock 19 and fired 30 rounds at the students in the class killing 9. Cho proceeded to the next classroom and then the next killing 18 more students and wounding 17 others. 30 lives were lost that morning before the 23 year old undergraduate put the gun to his own head. Virginia tech is a gun free campus as is Lccc, so it is illegal for students and faculty(including security guards) to carry a firearm on campus. This tragedy may have been stopped short if this policy was not in place, and there was a good guy with a gun.
I.	A gun free campus is less safe than a campus that is not gun free.
A.	A gun free campus prevents law abiding citizens with a license to carry a firearm from carrying on campus.
1.	This means that only criminals who break the law can have a gun on campus.
2.	Not only can you not have a gun for self-defense, neither can anyone else
