  1. BACKSTORY
  2.
  3. Due to the ever changing climate, rising sea levels, and global warming, the wealthier nations of the world managed to transport billions of people to Mars over time. This was known as the Great Colonization. Literally almost entire populations of developed nations managed to make it to Mars, as late in the Grat Colonization a voyage to Mars became somewhat affordable. However, those who could not travel to Mars for whatever reason had to find ways to survive back on Earth. On Mars, nations developed and prospered after an expensive terraforming. The Earth is now without western powers or the UN to keep order, resulting in much terrestrial turmoil. Trade exists between the Earth and the nations of Mars, but it is limited. It would seem that the nations of Mars have no real desire to come back to Earth to restore order. Now, it is the year 2150. The nations of Mars (which I will create shortly) and the nations of Earth both have their share of things to do.

  5. NORTH AMERICA
  6.
  7. Republic of Greenland - Late in the 21st century, in order to cope with the severe European financial crisis, and to fund efforts to colonize Mars, territorial rights for portions of Greenland are sold by the Danish government. Upon the melting of the poles, however, vast supplies of minerals are found. Upon the Great Colonization, the private organizations with ownership of Greenland banded together to form their own republic. Today, they are an extremely wealthy nation with lucrative trade deals to the many nations of Mars. Thule spaceport is considered to be the largest on Earth.
  8.
  9. New Asian Republic of Pacifica - Due to the ever rising sea levels and the swallowing of great Chinese cities, and due to a deep desire for more democratic reforms within China, hundreds of millions of Chinese, unable to pay for voyage to Mars, make their way to America's west coast in search of a better life. Upon the fail of the United States of America, California, Seattle, Washington, and British Columbia, now vastly Chinese and Asian in descent, form a nation.
  10.
  11. People's Republic of Greater Mexico - Dissatisifed with life in Mexico, millions of Mexicans attempted to cross the border into the USA late in the 21st century. Many were successful, but they met quite a great deal of segregation and discrimination by the American government until their departure to Mars. Now, Mexicans can inhabit what used to be Texas and the rest of the Southern United States a bit more easily with the white man gone. Mexico has also adopted a more socialist government that aids the people after a revolution.
  12.
  13. Democratic Socialist Union of America - By the end of the 21st century, voyage to mars had become affordable for nearly all middleclass, and even up working class citizens of the United States of America. However, not all American citizens meet this criteria. The USA was a diverse nation, full of all different types of people. Some minorities got left behind, primarily urban blacks, the disabled, and others that relied on government aid. Those left after the Great Colonization formed a frail union for their own survival.
  14.
  15. American Christian Confederation of Utah - Some right winged elements, primarily in Utah, were dedicated to keeping the Union together under a conservative regime. They were utterly disgusted by the Asians, Mexicans, and African-Americans that now ruled the corners of the continent. They wanted no part in this space business. There home is here, in America. However, America just isn't the same anymore. It will take quite some effort to restore America to the ACCU's desired image.

The dissultion of the United Nations and the end of the western powers allowed South Africa, one of the only developed nations to make it out of the century in not too abd of a shape, to do as they please in Africa. Many nations were taken under the wing of the South African governmnet "for their own protection". Recently, South Africa has created the South Atlantic Treaty Organization with the United Federation of South America. While initially just an anti-piracy and trade agreement, this organization has drastically increased relations between these two world powers.
  27.
  28. Kingdom of Timbuktu - Late in the 21st century, a fanatical Christian fire brand preacher with influence in America and Europe managed to weave a convincing prophecy. According to him, all his followers would be safe in the city of Timbuktu. Rich in antiquity, for the last several hundred years the city has been very desperate. However, after a mass exodus of followers, the city became the most prosperous it ever has been. While the lands surronding Timbuktu are extremely inhospitable due to global warming, the city itself prospers. Because of this, while the belief in the prophecy is waining, many people still inhabit the terraformed city.
  29.
  30. United Arabic Republic - Overtime, north Africa saw itself slowly develop into a more democratic place after countless revolutions. However, this didn't exactly improve the quality of life for many. Poverty was still a big problem. Many people could not afford voyage to Mars. However, still a great deal of Switzerland's population was stuck on Earth. After the rise of the sea levels, and the abandonment of the rest of Europe, the Swiss claimed what was elft of the European continent. They even managed to put a stop to the typical ethnic violence increased in calibre by apocolyptic panic in the Balkans, though with great resistance.
  37.
  38. Iberia - A couple of the poorest nations in western EUrope, Spain and Portugal had millions of citizens that were unable to make their way to Mars. This resoluted in complete civil unrest, as citizens became angry as to why more EU help was not provided. The two nations banded together under the authoritarian regime of those who had the power to restore roder to the peninsula.
  39.
  40.
  41. British Archipelago - While not technically a united nation, the British archipelago is all that remains of the British Isles. Hundreds of islands are now home to not only low income British citizens unable to go to Mars, but pirate havens and drug cartel hide outs.

However, Zionism provided to be quite strong during these dark times. Many Jews emigrated to Israel to help the cause instead of leaving for Mars. With an influx of manpower, and with no UN to govern the use of unconventional weapons, such as gases, Israel managed to come out ontop and become the dominant power in the middle east.
  47.
  48. Iran - Its citizens banned from inhabiting Mars, Iran had no problems staying back and expanding. Now, with the remnants of Turkey under its control, Iran's biggest threat is the Jews of Israel.
  49.
  50. Punjab - Dire times are always full of opurtunities. With the Indian government facing the problems of providing for billions of people who are unable to travel to Mars, Sikh terrorists seized the moment. With other priorities, the Indian government let Northrast India go its seperate way, for now.
  51.
  52. India - The billions of low income Indian citizens decided to take to higher ground before their subcontinent became totally submerged. An invasion of Thailand and Cambodia occured. Now, the overpopulated nation of India seeks to acquire as much land as possible for its citizens.
  53.
  54. China - Many Chinese citizens fled to America, but those that remained under the communist regime saw many troubles. Major Chinese coastal cities completely vanished. Manchruia was taken by the Koreans, and Tibet revolted. Now, they seek to restore their former glory.

  63.
  64. OCEANIA
  65.
  66. Oceanic Tribes - Indonesia was especially hard hit by the rising sea levels. Indonesia underwent a substaintual economic boom in the mid 21st century, allowing for most well off Indonesian citizens to secure a place on Mars, However, many places in Indonesia remained poverty ridden or backwards. This resulted in the breakdown and dissolution of local governments once the Indonesian government fled to Mars. A similar story is true for New Zealand and Australia. There, most citizens managed to acquire voyage to Mars. However, those who stayed behind never managed to form a government, and now anarchy reigns supreme.
  67.
  68. Kingdom of Jakarta - Upon the rise of the sea levels, and the Great Colonization, one wealthy individual managed seize the island of Java and found his own nation. He proclaimed himself king, and with his great wealth managed to turn Java into a prosperous nation. Now a tax haven and a center of business for the few remaining Earth based corporations, the Kingdom of Jakarta seems like a paradise compared to the other troubled nations of Earth.
