  1. Are subscriptions here to stay? With the shift to Oldschool Runescape, and Jagex's recent movement to implement a small number of microtransactions in the game, one has to wonder whether the company is likely to follow the match industry tendency of killing off subscriptions in favor of large-scale microtransactions. Gerhard assures me that this is not going to happen with RuneScape. "We have introduced some microtransactions into RuneScape, but just cosmetic items and some resources that can help you somewhat in-game," he states. "Yes, there is a powerful movement in the industry towards free-to-play, but I don't think necessarily running with the package is always the perfect thing," he continues.

Jagex already has a general idea of the way free-to-play with full size microtransactions can work -- that the studio is presently focusing on Transformers Universe for Hasbro, which is set for a microtransactions-only free-to-play title. The studio also functioned on Ace of Spades, a"purchase once" game which was released recently via Steam. "It is what's right for the sport," says Gerhard. "For RuneScape, it is still very much'this is the buffet services.' '''Although the group doesn't divulge subscription amounts as a rule, I had been told that the number of readers who voted on a recent storyline poll in-game -- about 450,000 in total -- was"just a small portion" of the entire amount of subscribers which RuneScape now has.

  5. I believe this can be applied to pretty much all MMORPGs that are out there - it really depends what is your end goal.If you would like to stay competitive - if it is PvE or PVP there's no way 1 hour each day is going to be enough. If you want to remain super casual - only blow off some steam after a tough day and being in the top, using great equipment and etc., isn't significant to you - I think that it is likely to appreciate it even if it's just for 1 hour per day.I played way too many different MMORPGs and also for way too much time. I stopped because other matters became more important and I just could not spend as much time as I used to and with that it became boring. I couldn't stay aggressive or at least somewhat competitive, which had been pretty much the sole reason I played those games.
