  4. No one is repealing "net neutrality". We are repealing a bill that was titled "Net Neutrality" for the sole reason to confuse people who do zero research, like you.
  5. Oniichan entered chat.
  6. Oniichan: NN btfo
  7. 0dds_0f_Even entered chat.
  8. 0dds_0f_Even: Net Neutrality got canned today? What's the future of the internet now?
  9. Nielk1: oh thank god.
  10. Nielk1: they killed the thing they kept calling "
  11. Nielk1: Net Neutrality" for some odd reason
  12. Nielk1: now things will go back to normal. The FTC will deal with issues after they happen, there will not be massvie costs to following regulations by the FTC were you have to pre-certify EVERTHING, small ISPs will be able to compete with the big ISPs again
  13. Nielk1: oh, and anti-trust laws can now apply to ISPs (they couldn't during NN) and now facebook and google are shitting themselves that if anti-trust hits the ISPs it will hit them next
  14. Nielk1: in other words, things are good and will likely get better
  15. 0dds_0f_Even: 2 years ago I was a NN supporter but after witnessing so much censorship/monopolies from big tech companies I'm not sure what to think anymore. Hopefully the ISPs won't get much free reign
  16. Nielk1: I supported NN 2 years ago, because I was supporting the concept
  17. Nielk1: we didnt get the concept
  18. Nielk1: we were closer under just FTC
  19. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: wew
  20. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: The funny thing is
  21. Nielk1: I mean, I am sure you get how big corporations love regulations because they can absorb the cost the the small companies cant?
  22. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: People like us, and especially people like me, would get fucked over either way
  23. Nielk1: NN was the same way with ISPs
  24. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: Due to wrongthink
  25. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: Nobody supporting NN ACTUALLY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT GOOGLE, YOUTUBE, TWITTER, FACEBOOK, ETC. FUCKING US OVER
  26. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: THEY ONLY CARE WHEN A GODDAMNED ISP DOES IT
  27. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: AND THEY HAVEN'T EVEN DONE ANYTHING YET
  28. Nielk1: the best part was the fact that NN's prevention of throttling could be subverted just by having an ISP call itself something slightly differnt
  29. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: ALL WE'VE SEEN SO FAR IS SPECULATION ABOUT INTERNET PACKAGES
  30. Nielk1: I can't wait for the rural ISPs to rise again
  31. Nielk1: radio modems here we come
  32. 0dds_0f_Even: from what I witnessed those for NN were against corrupt ISPs & those against NN hate big tech companies that monoploize & destroy competition
  33. Nielk1: NN ironicly helps the big ISPs
  34. 0dds_0f_Even: NN is an interesting debate to say the least becuase I seen strong arguments for both sides
  35. Nielk1: it protects them, removes responsability, and the fact they had to have the government pre-approve every buisness plan they would ever have under it, the costs of doing so kept competition down.
  36. Nielk1: besides, google owns their own undersea cables
  37. Nielk1: NN on the wires doesn't help them, it's irrelevent
  38. Nielk1: they have a world wide intranet
  39. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: Also thank God that you agree with us on this, Bitter
  40. Nielk1: now, how long until a bunch of idiots hang themsleves with CAT-5e cables?
  41. Nielk1: or maybe they will just "spam uselessly at the whitehouse.gov IP", 'cause screaming helplessly at the sky worked so well
  42. 0dds_0f_Even: is it true there was a bomb threat from the FCC
  43. 0dds_0f_Even: over the vote
  44. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: How much does Youtube and Google and so forth even pay for internet?
  45. Nielk1: yes
  46. Nielk1: they had to sweep for bombs
  47. Nielk1: as I said, google has a world wide lan that exists outside the internet
  48. Nielk1: so they actualy dont even need to use the internet for any more than local delivery
  49. Nielk1: pretty sure they're afraid fo being regulated themselves and thourhg that NN would protect them by keeping eyes on the ISPs
  50. 0dds_0f_Even: usually neutral on a lot of things but I can't support big tech comapnies censoring opinions
  51. 0dds_0f_Even: hopefully wit htis repeal ISPs won't have much reign
  52. 0dds_0f_Even: becuase they're garbage too
  53. Nielk1: FTC still handles it
  54. Nielk1: and it's no longer "pre-crime" anymore
  55. 0dds_0f_Even: How trustworthy are ISPs before Net Neutrality was a law?
  56. 0dds_0f_Even: before 2015
  57. Oniichan: trustworhty in what regard
  58. Oniichan: they throttled the shit out of things for sure
  59. 0dds_0f_Even: like not throttling & no censorship
  60. Oniichan: idk about censorship
  61. Oniichan: but throttling p2p was a thing
  62. Nielk1: they still throttled P2P after btw
  63. 0dds_0f_Even: I think one example there was pearl jam's performance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQH1tp8_zAA
  64. 0dds_0f_Even: where AT&T censored them
  65. 0dds_0f_Even: for a george bush reason I think
  66. 0dds_0f_Even: all I know is right now everybody on all platforms are probably about to riot
  67. Nielk1: oh it's going to be funny
  68. Nielk1: interestingly mobile carriers weren't covered under NN, which is why they had stuff like free unlimited spotify and stuff on a system that is normally chocking for bandwidth
  69. 0dds_0f_Even: I've never seen so mnay dislikes on youtube & posts all over the internet over this decision
  70. Nielk1: they did stuff like that to compete with other mobile carriers
  71. 0dds_0f_Even: is the internrt in the states that bad over there?
  72. Nielk1: no
  73. Nielk1: people are just fucking retarded
  74. Oniichan: we pay more for less
  75. Oniichan: its great m8
  76. Nielk1: like, the US has some sketchy internet in some places, but remember how big we are
  77. Nielk1: the US is so massive actually getting internet set up with good speeds everywhere is a massive undertaking
  78. Nielk1: note all countries with crazy fast internet are also tiny
  79. Nielk1: people just like to ingore the logistics and demand the government fix it
  80. Nielk1: and the government "fixing" it just causes it to stagnate
  81. 0dds_0f_Even: hopefully the riots won't be too bad & the ISPs can be kept o na leash to not fuck over anybody
  82. Nielk1: Like I said, they've always been on the FTC leash
  83. Nielk1: the FCC one was literally making them pay to validate they were going to commit a crime in the future
  84. 0dds_0f_Even: https://twitter.com/search?q=%22So%20the%20FCC%22&src=tren
  85. 0dds_0f_Even: current talk on twatter
  86. 0dds_0f_Even: wait since NN was a law how did it affect gaming online & etc.?
  87. Nielk1: give me twitter shekles, I tried to tweet humor (I suck at it) https://twitter.com/Nielk1/status/941377644595118084
  88. Nielk1: it wasnt a law
  89. Nielk1: it was a regulation
  90. Nielk1: it did jacks hit
  91. Nielk1: except run some rural ISPs out of buisness
  92. Oniichan: not all small ISPs were against NN
  93. Oniichan: many saw it as a way to keep the big fucks in check from monopolizing everything
  94. Nielk1: the end result of NN ironicly would ahve been everyone in the slow lane
  95. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: While Google, Youtube, etc. would stay on the fast lane and not pay anywhere near as much as others
  96. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: While also being free to restrict and censor the internet as muhc as they please
  97. NOSCOPENOPROBLEM: Hence my emphasis on "IT'S OKAY WHEN THE NOT-ISPS DO IT"
